Just before New Year's Eve the SCX/ Scalextric Spain 1980 Hunsrück Rallye Fiat 131 Abarth appeared at Hobbyclassic and Joaquimoslot in Spain.
Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer won the German event, which counted for the European- and German Rally Championship.
Together with some friends I visited that event as a spectator and I can still remember his perfect driving style.
Despite their busy WRC schedule, the duo took part in four German championship rallies, all of which they won.
1980 Was also the year in which Walter Röhrl became world rally champion for the first time.
Two years later, in 1982, he repeated this when he drove the Ascona 400 for Opel.
The winning 1980 Hunsrück Rallye SCX Fiat 131 Abarth is available in a clean version (700 units) and a dirt, after race, version (300 units).
Here are a few pictures of both versions.

My second scratch build done a year ago. Experimenting with circuit board as chassis. That stuff sure dulls bandsaw blades! It is digital and has lights. The rattle can clear coat was too 'hot' and caused 'crinkling' of the paint so the defective areas got sanded back and 'primered'. That's one way to hide mistakes! I'm sure more will come. The car runs pretty good! The markings are spurious.
I've been in this hobby for two years, now. A buddy surprised a few of us with his track so what could we do but submit! This is my first 'scratch' build of sorts. The body is an MMK 1951 Gordini LeMans. It came with metal detail bits, spoked wheels and tires. It is very nice. I (over) built the chassis, added a digital chip then installed head-fog-tail lights using LEDs and appropriate resistors. It is heavy and sits high so doesn't run well but sure is pretty if I say so myself! MMK did a wonderful job with the resin body, paint and livery!
Hello everyone,
Here are a few pictures of my slightly modified Scalextric Ford Escort WRC, Rallye Monte Carlo 1998 (C4513).
I switched the drivers to their correct position. Like the real rally car, the Escort is now left-hand drive.
Unfortunately I could not change the mirrored dashboard, as is possible in the Scalextric Escort MK1.
Nevertheless I am happy with this compromise.
I also shortened the black roll cage (which should be white). This shifted the crossbar towards the B-pillar, which is more realistic.
The Escort WRC, driven by Juha Kankkunen and his navigator Juha Repo, finished second overall, behind the Toyota Corolla WRC of winner Carlos Sainz.
On YouTube I found this spectacular video of the real car:

I'm going to be casting some small parts. The resin I'm using is Smooth-Cast 327. However, I specifically want a silver/grey colour, which isn't available in Smooth-On's "So Strong" range of tints. Last year, I tried mixing a tiny amount of black into the white pigment, but it wasn't very successful.
I'm thinking outside the box, but has anyone ever attempted tinting resin with acrylic paint? I know the obvious solution is to air brush colour on to untinted resin, but these parts are small - Scalextric Escort mk1 bumpers, SCX Citroen C4 WRC mirrors, and a few wheel inserts.
Thoughts (or maybe even experiences) please gents.
We're back at the Barn on Wednesday for our first Scalextric digital event of 2025. This is one of four Nascar & Legends Wednesday evenings, with non-stop excitement and also ideal to learn the ropes. Indeed, we do insist that new racers get one or more of these events under their belts before progressing on to the GT Championship and the autumn Digital Saturdays.
Doors open at 6.30pm for practice and digital driving school. Racers are allocated to six teams for the Nascar club car team race - the allocation being seeded to give us a nice, close 60 minutes of racing over three or four sessions. Cars are swapped between teams after each session - the winners swapping with the sixth place team etc. The aim is to get as many laps as possible.
After medals have been awarded to the winners and team photos taken on the podium, we move on to the Legends pairs race. The Pioneer Legends are not club cars, so you'll need a car or an invite to share one. It's a quick-fire format, 8-minute heats with a driver change at half-way and the teams with the best scores qualifying directly for the 8-minute feature race. Before that, there's an 8-minute last-chance semi-final to fill the remaining place(s) in the feature. That usually takes us up to just after 9.30pm.
Entry is £3 for the whole evening's racing (£2 under-16s) and there is a 2025 season ticket for our digital events available (see here).
We ask that racers aged 13 and under bring a responsible adult with them.
Simon has designed us a pair of tracks to race on at the January & February Nascar & Legends nights. This is the first one...

Hello,
a burning question here :) I have a decent track length from ninco, which I am still very satisfied with.
Now I really want to do more with digital in the near future. Since Ninco is really becoming very scarce here in the Netherlands, and Policar has recently made a nice lane change, I wondered if it would ever be possible to switch from the Policar->Ninco to a digital oxygen Policar with the current ninco track I have now..
so in concrete terms a large part of ninco track, supplemented with policar pieces and of course the digital policar pieces.
I have previously asked this question to a lock specialist in the Netherlands, and he indicated that due to the sparking under the (ninco) track, the Oxigen battery would quickly empty, now I also hear opposite questions.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this?
I'd like to hear it,
Robbin
