Scalextric Ford Escort WRC Rallye Monte Carlo 1998 - rallyhub - 12th-Jan-25

Hello everyone,

Here are a few pictures of my slightly modified Scalextric Ford Escort WRC, Rallye Monte Carlo 1998 (C4513).
I switched the drivers to their correct position. Like the real rally car, the Escort is now left-hand drive.
Unfortunately I could not change the mirrored dashboard, as is possible in the Scalextric Escort MK1.
Nevertheless I am happy with this compromise.
I also shortened the black roll cage (which should be white). This shifted the crossbar towards the B-pillar, which is more realistic.
The Escort WRC, driven by Juha Kankkunen and his navigator Juha Repo, finished second overall, behind the Toyota Corolla WRC of winner Carlos Sainz.

I like the Escort Cossie and that's a really nice looking car there Hub
...after watching Rob upgrade his recently feel it's more important I do something with the one I have.

The Escort WRC is easily recognizable by its low rear spoiler. This is in contrast to the Group A Escort Cosworth, which has a high-mounted rear spoiler.
Due to the more liberal WRC regulations, the Escort WRC received a smaller turbo, which better suited the 34mm restrictor, MacPherson struts at the rear and a sequential Xtrac gearbox. It had also better aerodynamics and a better weight distribution than the Cossy.
Ford only used it for two years (1997 and 1998), after which the Escort was succeeded by the all-new Focus.
