Wheel Balancer - ARUP - 12th-Jan-25

[attachment=38984]        Home made using plywood. The uprights have magnets let into them. One end has a bit of glass over the magnet so the axle with a beveled end contacts it instead of bare magnet surface. When not in use the axle is stored in a pocket in one of the uprights. It works great to balance gears, too!

Hi Kevan, did you find it not neccessary? I'm new to this but have used mine to balance gears as well as wheels with and without tires. I like to tinker so maybe it gives a little pyschological boost to me even if my cars don't run that well!

It can't do any harm using it, but what process do you use to balance an out of balance wheel/set of wheels?

I didn't notice any performance increase so didn't bother after my first trials.  Personally I don't think the 'gains' make any difference on hard plastic cars but probably noticeable on different classes like ISRA.

You balance by either removing material from the heavy side or adding weight to the light side.

Can you balance a wheel/tyre combo the same way? Where do you remove the mass from?

Remove mass from where you can...if that's not possible then add tape to the light side.

exactly as stated above 
although it will undoubtedly help , I found it a little tedious 
but on the other hand watching a well balanced wheel & tyre rotate for what seems like for ever is strangely satisfying 
the only initial problem I found was getting the pin points on the shafts truly centred at each end 
once that was solved it works great ( if hardly ever used now )

For those intetested in 'rolling your own' (hah!) chuck an axle in your drill and while spinning use your Dremel with a cut off wheel to grind the point. This job turned in a lathe would be ideal.
