Hello everybody.
Avant Slot announced a while ago that they would produce a Subaru Legacy, but nothing has arrived yet.  I message them on Facebook now and again and initially got the "keep watching here for news" response but now  they just ignore me...

Can anyone recommend a source for a 1/32 bodyshell?

I am relatively new to the hobby but have found my preference is to run 1/32 cars on a Carrera Go 1/43 track.  The main reasons for using the Carrera Go is that I can obviously run a lot more track on my 8 x 5 ft space and compared to my Policar 1/32 track set, the Carrera runs at nearly twice the speed and no, it's not an optical illusion.
I have half a dozen 1/43 scale cars, mostly Carrera, which in my view are the best at this scale.  But as my main interest is classic cars from the 60s, 1/32 Scalextric are the way to go for me.  I have a number of pre BMW Minis and Jag E-Types, that run really well on the 1/43 track.  I have found that wider cars, like my Mark 1 Jaguar, can slip a back wheel off track, on the inside of curves, so have added foam to help alleviate this.
I intend to widen most of the track with foam and also make a start at some landscaping.  Here's a rough photo of my current 1/43 layout.

Please kindly excuse me for posting a few similar pictures before.

Here's a pic of the basic layout.

Here's a shot of some of the guys getting ready between heats. I said "Everyone look at the back wall for a second". Click.

The rest of the pics are self explanitory. I hope you enjoy. I salute the host for all the cool details.

It was the first race of the year. 7-friends came together to relax, chill, and have a little fun. Chicken souvlaki and fries were on the menu care of the host. Thank you very kindly Jim!

One of the club members was out due to recent surgery. We're all supporting his quick recovery.

Everyone was having a rough start. We had a record breaking 5-incorrect hook-ups with our controllers throughout the evening. We always have a hot start. You need to wait for the light to turn green before you hit the trigger and cross the start, or you red-light and lose that lap. When a car starts going down the track by itself on the countdown before the green light. It quickly becomes a bad day. One brake pot make have gone up in smoke in the process.

Pre-war is a regular class for us that will be raced every two weeks or so. There's a points system in place. The winner at the end of the season wins absolutely nothing... nada. Not even a coffee. Bragging rights maybe?

Here are the old cars.

We have four series of scratch built GP cars.

1) 50's GP (14k slimline 050)
2) 60's 1.5L (14k slimline 050)
3) 60's 3.0L (18k Scalex slimline 050)
4) 70's GP up to 1974 (18k Scalex slimline 050)

We raced the 60's 1.5L GP - decided by way of a club vote.

Stock Scalex NASCAR was next. The only upgrade allowed is urethane tires.

The last class to race was Slot.It DTM. Is that a Merc 190 taxi in the mix? I feel badly for the customers sitting in the back seat. Don't worry. I'm not offending anyone. The one and only tall taxi is mine.  Bigsmile

That's it until the end of the month.

Thank you very kindly for looking,
Ken

The Scalextric releases for 2025 are up on their website if anybody is interested. LINK It doesn't say whether this is the whole range or half of it like last year.

Here are some posters that made me laugh. I hope they make you laugh too.

It has been a very long time since any manufacturer has produced a current NASCAR and 2010/11 was the last time they appeared in Scalextric and SCX catalogues. Carrera has thus delighted all NASCAR fans with four of the current Chevrolet Camaros.

Now I know I am very much in the minority here but I love NASCAR so these were an absolute must buy.

As these are Carrera cars I knew roughly what to expect - excellent quality, heavy, solidly built cars that are not the world's greatest performers on track and so it proved.

The four Hendrick Motorsport cars have been released and I bought the Chase Elliot #9 and Kyle Larson #5 versions. Alex Bowman's #48 and William Byron's #24 cars are also available.

Bodyshells
These are well up to Carrera’s usual standards, beautifully finished with no blemishes whatsoever. NASCAR sponsors change from race to race so it is virtually impossible to check full authenticity of these liveries but they look near perfect to my eye with all the major sponsors covered. I suspect they are based on early season races as they don't have the little chequered flag decals indicating race wins. Later season cars would have one on Chase Elliott's car and several on Kyle Larson's.

Chassis
Things started to get a little weird when I opened the cars though.

As usual they are a hefty bit of kit with the standard Carrera hallmark of a reverse polarity switch for running the other way round the track. However, there appears to be something like a digital chip fitted at the front end. They are definitely both analogue cars which work just fine on my track and, as with the full size car, there are no lights fitted so what is this stuff? Anybody know?

So far so good but.......
I am pleased to report not a single quality control issue with them, just wish other manufacturers could approach their build standards but inevitably we come to a major downside - the wheels and tyres. First off they have put Carrera labelling on the tyres, talk about spoiling the ship for a ha’p’orth of tar! Having no doubt spent a small fortune on a NASCAR licence surely they could have forked out a smidgen more for a Goodyear one?

On the track, as expected, there was virtually no grip and they slithered their way round my 50ft lap in slightly under ten seconds. A box standard Scalextric car can usually manage under seven seconds so this was particularly bad. Now there is very little you can do to improve things with Carrera tyres as any application of oil usually results in them turning to complete mush in a very short space of time so I would normally replace them with Paul Gage urethanes. This is where things get really bad though, they have non standard size wheels with a different diameter shoulder on each side so there is currently no direct replacement available.

Until Paul comes up with some suitable tyres I am afraid these lovely cars will therefore stay as shelf queens for the present but if you have plastic track I am sure they will perform perfectly well, magnets can hide a multitude of sins!
