These cars... You sit in a box, a coffin. Gasoline all around you. It is like being inside a bomb. Crazy!!!

Nino Barlini

Sabàto plays Nino Barlini, a young Sicilian driver, and a three times motorcycle World Champion.

Barlini is, perhaps refreshingly, uncomplicated and seemingly happy.

He doesn't have the cynical edge that some of the other characters have. He's not competing with his dead brother like Stoddard, he's not disillusioned with racing, or stuck in a loveless marriage like Sarti, and he doesn't have an affair with another driver's wife like Aron.

And the good news for Nino continues. He has a beautiful girfriend played by Françoise Hardy, and he leads the Driver's World Championship heading into the final round at Monza.

Interview me first, Pete. I have had a fascinating life.

I might as well. I wouldn't want people to think I was unemployed.

I was born a poor boy in Cerda, Sicily. Nothing to eat. Not a crumb of bread in the house.

I guess Manetta told you I came looking for a job.

Every year, I would...
Well, I think he should've found you one.
Cerda is right on the course of the great Targa Florio race.

Knock it off, will you?

Knock it off? What's that?

It means: You would be well advised to cease.

Yes."Knock it off."
I like that.
