Extreme Slotting

(14th-Oct-21, 02:12 PM)Graham Wrote:  So what for about another contest, I think many of the current participants would be up for another go next year. And since I am the proud owner of both SCX and now (not so cheap) NINCO track, I would certainly be up for it. So hopefully if I can persuade the existing hosts or even more to help me organize another one next year then it should happen.

The timing would have to be different as this year with the Le Mans Proxy in October as well, it really was abit too much at the same time. So I would be thinking that it might be best to bring it forward to around July time next year, a couple of months after the next Road Race.

I am quite happy to leave the class classification's as they are, and quite liked using the number of laps completed as the measurement in this series, as mostly the vehicles are leaving the track on numerous occasion's  Rofl

Scratch Builds.
Well for me this would mean revising the rules;
A) The vehicle should be "off road type" nothing against Bernie's worthy winning Panda, but I think so as to not have to make too so may trips to put the car back on the track, I would want to specify that any vehicle entered would need to have a minimum track clearance on around 4.5mm based on at least the NINCO cars standard. Police cars are welcome but they should be a Range Rover off road type. We should not be having to remove obstacles in order to allow some scratch built cars to run, as it potentially penalizes the other scratch built cars which are more so made for the purpose the class was intended for.
B) I would prefer all scratch built cars t have the long drop arms (8cm), so we can raise the scope of obstacles to be encountered like with the Pro -cars etc.
C) All 4 tyres of a car reaching the track surface, this makes even more sense for these cars to give stability at the front. Several of the cars in this event could just not cope with the obstacles because the front wheels were no where near to the track surface.
D) Guides should not protrude outside of the body, hence you should not be able to see the guide if viewed from above.

So that's all for now,
hope you all enjoyed either participating in or following and I look forward to running "Extreme Slotting 2022" next year  Thumbup
Points taken, but vehicles dont have to be odd road to be RAID, look at the 2CV & Renault 4, and of course the Porsche 959.

Dont worry, the police force have realised their mistake and will be making sure that their raids are not RAIDS Rofl
My scratchbuild for the next one is on the planning bench, it will LOOK like a RAID car even if not necessarily immediately considered a RAID vehicle, watch this space.

Thanks to all the hosts and my fellow entrants, I've really enjoyed it, just wish there'd been some videos, maybe next year.

NB
Your mention of a rule change stating that the guide mustn't protrude will be hard to enforce, RAID vehicles by nature have short overhangs, and looking at my SCX Mitsubishi sitting here the guide sticks out the front, and its a box standard car.

If they are not protruding any further than my SCX cars are, I would be very happy.

A big thank you to Graham for all the hard work he has put into this event.
A good format and the classes were spot on admitting that the scratch build may take some thinking over ( I guess you have a cunning plan hatched already) .
The point over videos is a good one and in an ideal world it would be perfect, only issue is you need a little more time and there is a priority to marshal first so the filming gets put back unless you have extra helpers ... which is difficult to recruit.
It may be possible if the runs are reduced down to 2 or the time reduced to 2mins.
Again well done to the competitors very difficult to tune a car for all terrain.
A lottery win is a must if you want to build a ninco track. ( Graham must have mugged A1 to get his )
And finally a big thank you to the hosts as it was timely task. ????

I absolutely loved running the 2 stages I got.  Great fun, and so different from just setting a car up to go quickly.
I hadn't used my Ninco track for ages, and forgot what fun it is  Thumbup

3 runs for each class over 3 minutes was very time consuming,  but the idea of recording results by laps completed is perfect.
Of interest,  my 2 stages featured the exact same amount of obstacles for all classes, they either coped,  or they didn't...

The SCX vehicles can cope with so much more in the terms of terrain, obstacles,  etc,  but are often more trouble to keep running than the Ninco vehicles.  These go quite happily on what they are designed for.

The Scratchbuilt class definitely needs a tweak or two.  The Anglia is unreal on the normal bumpy track surface,  but doesn't really do obstacles.   However it is superbly built, and a credit to Bernie.  Honestly,  with no obstacles on the track it was probably the quickest thing out there.

I feel the class structure was perfect.  Especially as each manufacturers vehicles are so different in terms of what they can cope with.

I am definitely up for hosting again.  Big thanks to all who entered,  these aren't cheap to purchase,  and of course to Graham,  who's excellent idea this was.

By the way Topdown, I enjoyed your Ford Ranger pick up so much that I have just been lucky enough to purchase a pair on the forum.
Maybe not the best performance,  but so cool  Bigsmile

I was tempted by those two myself - but already having one Ranger in, to my mind the nicest livery, it seemed a bit overkill.

Would there be a class for modified stock, or would that go into the scratch building section ?
If a modified stock is eligible I might want to field an entry  Wrench

I think with the numbers of entrants and cars we have at the moment it would not make sense for another separate class, although I would dearly love to introduce e a Truck class  Idea but sadly at the moment I would probably be the only entrant.

But yes your entry would be welcome and the "modified stock" vehicle would be placed into either the Pro Class or the Scratch build class depending on the nature of its modification. My Jaguar I-Pace was actually a Scalextric stock body with a Mitoos chassis etc. I decided on the basis of the knowledge I had on the other Scratch build vehicles submitted, to place it into the Pro Class, as the Mitoos chassis was well capable of competing with the Avants and Scaleauto's.
Mind you if its a Truck perhaps we could have a 2 vehicle class  Tease

Wavegreen whilst this event is still clear in my mind, and I am aware that potential scratch build enthusiasts need some early guidance, I have written some provisional rules for next year which are attached. These may perhaps change (but hopefully not), but should be taken as only a draft document at this stage.

I have paid very little attention to proxy racing in the past but hosting a round of this one proved very enjoyable so I would be pleased to do it again in the future. I must compliment Graham on his organisation of the series, I initially thought that receiving and then sending the cars on to the next host would be a bit of a faff but it proved very simple with Graham doing all the paperwork and scheduling the carrier.

A few comments for consideration:
I only have SCX off road track and the Ninco class could not negotiate a single one of the obstacles so just ran on a bumpy track which is possibly not the original intention. For a future event would it be possible for someone to make some suitable smaller obstacles which would fit into the ready made mounting holes in my track? Other hosts with SCX track could also use them.

Similarly the scratch built class had to run without obstacles on my track so the suggested rule change about length of drop arm seems sensible to me. If they all had 8cm drop arms then they would be on a par with the RTR Avant slots etc as regards the SCX obstacles. If it is only 4.5cms then they would have the same restrictions on obstacles as the Ninco class.

I found the SCX controllers to be woefully inadequate for the hotter motors and I will see about rigging something up for the next one so I can use decent controllers. Has anybody got a 'how to' for this while still using the SCX power base and connectors?

I take your point on the subject of drop guide lengths and this is something for me is abit of a dilemma as to what we should be aiming for with the scratch builds. Interestingly I did abit of measuring to day and actually you don't have to have a 8cm length drop guide to reach the same drop height to the track, my MItoos chassis based car has a drop guide which is only 5cm in length and is fixed to the chassis much nearer to the front but it just opens out much more than the NINCO cars are able to do. I read somewhere that you can alter the NINCO guide somehow in the chassis in order to allow it a greater angle of opening.

I think it is the distance to which the drop guide is allowed to open to reach the track surface that is really important. So I think I might specify this rather than the drop arm length itself.
