North Staffs Slot Car Club (Round 10)

Well what a day, on arrival I was delighted to see some familiar faces.....and they even remembered me from the few occasions I frequented the club for a while before Covid. The club track is one of the best in the country and frequently used for National GT3 type competitions. The drivers which Chris had seconded where also some of the best in the country, so I knew we were in for a good Round. Classichrisk did the race control, and I did the videos presentation and some marshalling.
For this Round we used the "Yellow flag" technique, stopping the track for any car de-slots and avoiding excessive lost time for the cars concerned. As this track normally has 6 marshal's and we had 3 available it was a great way to run.

So to the Results.
Tourist Event 1
1st Place - Savage GT Mustang
2nd Place - Brumos RSR - Porsche 911
3rd Place - RoadRunners - Galaxie

Drivers Comments
Savage GT Mustang- run well, not as smoothly as the Brumos RSR Porsche which both drivers really loved, however the Mustang proved again that it just had the pace over the Porsche.
Roadrunners  Galaxie -was said to run very well and smooth.
Lifeboats Galaxie -was very stiff with no body rock, front axle/wheels felt uneven.
Groundhogs Ford Cortina -felt little unpredictable.
Makem Movers Sunbeam -was reasonably stable and quite quick.

Grand Event 2
1st Place - Brumos RSR - BMW 2.8
2nd Place - Makem Movers - Camaro
3rd Place - Bangers Racing - BMW 3.0 CSL

WRONG CAMARO ON PODIUM

Divers Comments
Deadheads Rover SD1 - very unstable to run (front wheel issue)
Bangers Racing BMW 3.0CSL - ran quite fast.
Harrisons Racers Camaro - good run, tyres back slide allowed drifting
Red Devils Alfa GTA - heavy but stable.
Brumos RSR BMW 2.8 - really enjoyed this one fast and stable.
Makem Movers - Camaro- Better traction then the other Camaro.
ALS Racing BMW 2002 - run well and smooth.
Lifeboats Racing Alfa GTA -felt very unstable and jumpy.
Team Cube Rover SD1-difficult at times felt light on front.
BARacer Capri - Braids needed adjustment comes off easily.
Groundhogs Capri- similar to above, better traction of rear tyres.
Green Star Racing Ford Capri - run fairly smoothly a little unstable around corners.

Remaining results and comments tomorrow.

Oh, I am cut to the quick (whatever that is). Fancy my Camaro being mistaken on the rostrum for that Harrison fella's. Tappingfoot

Graham,
Many thanks for all the work (and worry) that you have put into this Proxy.
Excellent that we have managed to complete it.
Well done everyone, without entrants it couldn't happen.

Wavegreen Good Morning

Whilst I am waiting for the medals to arrive...they are coming from IofM  Rofl
I will start with the Final Pitlane Report for Rounds 1-10 and then Winners Presentation

Updated Overall Points for Rounds 1-10

Pitlane Review Rounds 1-10
So it was great attending a Club Round at the NSSRC this week, really enjoyed it and I hope they will participate in the next proxy. Many thanks to the club members who assisted Chris and myself in making it happen  Thumbup

Tourist (Event1)
1st Place - Savage GT - Mustang (195pts)
2nd Place - Brumos RSR - Porsche 911 (143pts)
3rd Place - RoadRunners - Galaxie (116pts)
An easy win for Savage GT with the Mustang, personally I felt the Porsche 911 was a better car in general and to me was the "spirit of the Proxy" car as it looked great and drove very well against the wider and more brutish opposition. But just could not quite compete with the pace of the Mustang.

Grand (Event 2)
1st Place - Bangers Racing - BMW 3.0CSL (172pts)
2nd Place - Makem Movers - Camaro ( 108pts)
3rd Place - Brumos RSR - BMW 2.8 (105pts)
I think this could have been an entirely different story if the Deadheads Rover SD1 had not hit mechanical issues earlier on, somewhere along it sustained chassis support damage, but because it was a kind of sealed unit, with a brass chassis no one wanted to risk opening it up to try to fix it. Perhaps a lesson to be learned there. But Bangers Racing for sure would have still been in contention for 1st Place and it is a deserved win on owners part. Brumos BMW just missed out on 2nd Place, I think earlier set up issues slowed its progress, and seemed to improve throughput the series.
Makem's Camaro kept a constant pace which was sufficient for 2nd place in the end.

Super (Event 3)
1st Place - Savage GT - Calibra (146pts)
2nd Place - WVSAM - Nissan Skyline ( 99pts)
3rd Place - ManxBrian - Nissan Skyline (96pts)
Savage GT struggled mid way to keep the lead, looked very much like WVSAM Skyline was going to take the top spot, but its perofrmance dramatically fell off in the final rounds which was a bit of bad luck. Manx Brian's Skyline also had its ups and downs, luckily in this case its improved performance came at the right time to take 3rd. So well done there.

Modern (Event 4)
1st Place - Deadheads - Audi A5 ( 186pts)
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - Alfa 156 ( 107pts)
3rd Place - Mountain View - Astra ( 103pts)
Never a doubt that this car would win this Event , always very consistent running car. Bangers Racing Alfa putting up a brave challenge but did not quite have the same stability, and the Astra of Mountain View was absolutely great for most of the rounds, struggling occasionally with one or two , could have challenged for 2nd place with a little more luck, but brilliant for a Class A constructed car.

Class A Constructed Cars
1st Place - Mountain View - Astra (175pts)
2nd Place - Harrisons Racers - BMW 321i (101pts)
3rd Place - Team Tatters - Honda Civic (89pts)
Outstanding Class A car, never really challenged.

Class B Constructed Cars
1st Place - Deadheads - Audi A5 (152pts)
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - BW 3.0CSL (115pt)
3rd Place - Mountain View - BMW M3 (94pts)
Again no doubt that Deadheads Audi was the best of Class B cars all the way through.

Class C Constructed Cars
1st Place - Savage GT - Calibra (152pts)
2nd Place - WVSAM - Skyline (104pts)
3rd Place - ManxBrian - Skyline (94pts)
Just feel that WV Sam Skyline might have missed out on this Class win due to earlier under performance and later running issues, it was possibly the better constructed car, but we will never know.

Best Team
1st Place - Savage GT (577pts)
2nd Place - Deadheads (470pts)
3rd Place - Mountain View (454pts)
Well it was not necessarily a done deal for Savage GT, earlier on Deadheads were in the lead, and if only the Rover had not succumbed.........?
And Mountain View demonstrating that a well made Class A Car can be very valuable in this competition, hint, hint

Fastest Lap for Round 10

Fastest lap over series.
Here I listed the top 10 on each Round and allocated 1st (fastest car) 10, 2nd fastest 9, etc then added up the scores for a TOTAL

Perhaps a Summary of how well or not your cars "speed" performance was doing throughout on each round.

It's been a thoroughly enjoyable proxy with many ups and downs with added complications and lots of nice surprises.

Mountain Views Astra proved to be the dark horse I predicted in my review, on the back of which we've created a class purely for standard basic cars like it.

We'll do the post mortem on Andy's Rover when it returns.

  • Thank you to Graham for organising what turned into a brilliant proxy.
  • Thank you to all the hosts and everyone who turned up to drive/marshal/help.
  • Thank you to all you guys who built cars and entered this proxy, some were obviously build to win, some were built in the true spirit of the proxy and the winner of that award was deserved.
  • Thank you to everyone who helped recover our box from lost property, lessons were learned.
I can't wait for the next proxy to start and hope to see some different names at the tops of the results charts. Beer
