Touring Cars Slotting - Official Results & Reports
#21

Wavegreen Good afternoon

just before we move on to the action

Scrutineer Report
.pdf Touring Cars Scrutineering Report.pdf Size: 175.17 KB  Downloads: 58

In general mostly everyone understood the Technical Requirements and there were only a few mistakes.
In terms of issues.
1) Front/rear wheel diameter-only had 2 entrants who missed this but was able to rectify this with them by fitting replacements
2) Wheel Tyre widths - we had 3 entrants which supplied cars over the limit, one thought that I was specifying tyre "contact patch" requirements. I have never adopted this criteria as it is very difficult to judge with calipers, opportunity for error is too wide and you end up getting into long winded discussions as to differences between yours and the entrants measurements. The other two cases were "not reading the rules"  I was able to work one set of tyres for one entrant to conform to the rules. The other choose to send me replacement wheels with tyres trued, and they were accepted. Only one entrant did not want to change his set up and preferred to accept a full run of Round penalties.
3) Track clearance was almost completely complied with, a couple needed motor re-alignment in the pod so the motor laid absolutely flat. A couple of issues around standard cars with shaped chassis which in localised areas meant the chassis shape caused the non compliance, however internally the motor position was clearly within the rules. So I have taken a lenient approach to those two Scalex based models.
4) Rear Axle width - no issues at all
5 ) Guide dimensions which were "Advisory" - 2 cars had 8mm deep guide flags which were struggling on my Carrera track, should they had been used on the more shallow Scalextric Sport Round, I am sure they would have potentially been DNF cars. So the entrants took my advice and allowed me to trim them down to 7mm depth
6) Body and interior decoration- one case of a exterior body which missed some important characteristics of the model it represented. The entrant had done this to limit the amount of body weight. And has agreed to restore the essential features during his Round 2. And we had a case of unpainted Lexan lightweight interior, with the entrants agreement I did the decoration myself to make the car compliant in this regard.

So in general I did not achieve my goal of being "Penalties free" as with the Rally, but quite close to that by working together with everyone involved.

"Spirit of the Proxy Award"

This will replace the previous "Best Presented" award and is only related to fully decorated models.
So here are the ......qualifying Touring cars.

1) RoadRunners -Ford Galaxie

2) Brumos RSR -Porsche 911

3) Brumos RSR- BMW 2.8

4) Makem Movers - Sunbeam Rapier

5) Lifeboats Racing - Ford Galaxie

6) Lifeboats Racing- Alfa GTA

7) BARacer - Alfa 155

8) Deadheads - Rover SD1

9) ManxBrian - Nissan Skyliner

10) ALS Racing - BMW 2002

11) Savage GT - Opel Calibre

The “Spirit of the proxy” apart from its obvious static appearance, could also include its character as a competing car. So for that reason we will take the vote at the end of the series.

You can vote for any one of the models listed above except those of your own entries, usual method by either pm or email.

I have added to the original post that the “Spirit of the Proxy” apart from its static appearance  could also include its character during the series.

So for that reason we will take the vote at the end of the series.

What about including those of us who made our own chassis, there's at least as much work involved there. There's tens of hours of work gone into some of those cars that aren't made by a major manufacturer.
...maybe that could be another award

No, there is only a few B&W chassis cars and they are in this list anyway.

I think the “Spirit Award”, should not be about qualifying times or race position. It is a combination of Best Presented, feedback on running experience ( how enjoyable they were to run ) additional photos from the tracks and videos etc.

My Audi has a home made chassis, designed from scratch, unique in the world to that one car and made by myself at home.
