Touring Cars Slotting - Official Results & Reports
#71

Wavegreen Good Morning,
Many thanks to the Manx Slot Car Club and Kevan in particular for their hard work, looking forward to seeing the the videos.

We are in the process of setting up the SCOREBOARD for the Series which should magically appear just under the Poster on Page 1 of this thread. Thereafter I will give my review regarding the First Round.

The  SCOREBOARD is up and running Wrench

The Registration Technical input from the Entrants was generally very well supported, but there is a couple  of omissions. So if this valuable information database can be completed by the those who have not managed to completed it would be very much appreciated.

Next will be the Pitlane Review

Car setup data is very helpful and interesting, the rear tyres on my Audi RS5 are actually NSR Ultragrip, the tyres I registered didn't work out as hoped during extensive testing before sending the car.

Pitlane Review
Many thanks again for the Manx Club for completing the 1st Round for us. They can relax now for this year watch the rest of the show unfold.

There were definitely some unexpected results, and some unexpected hiccups. But of course the home players had the advantage on their home turf.

Tourist (Event 1)
1st Place-  Brumos RSR - Porsche 911
2nd Place - Savage GT - Mustang
3rd Place - RoadRunners-  Galaxie

Well the Porsche 911 of Brumos RSR came alive on this 1st Round and out run the higher seeded Mustang of Savage GT. Pleased to see the RoadRunners Galaxie cruised into 3rd position. Makem Movers Sunbeam making a respectable 4th place.

Grand (Event 2)
1st Place - Deadheads - Rover SD1
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - BMW 3.0 CSL
3rd Place - Harrison's Racers - Camaro

The favourites Deadheads Rover SD1 manged to win 1st Place, but with Bangers Racing BMW 3.0 CSL close behind in 2nd. And 3rd place the Camaro of Harrison Racers with Makem Movers Camaro just behind in 4th. ALS Racing BMW2002 probably one to watch with a good 5th place finish.Red Devils Alfa GTA seemed to have underperformed on this track.

Super (Event 3)
1st Place - Savage GT - Calibra
2nd Place - ManxBrian - Skyline
3rd Place - ManxGeoff- Calibra

A great start for the Calibra of Savage GT in 1st place, perhaps home advantage enabled the Skyline of ManxBrian to grab 2nd position with his clubmate ManxGeoff putting his Calibra in 3rd place. A disappointing start for Hotlaps's Calibra which had issues with a slipping gear.  2 cars taking their penalties in this 1st Round.

Modern (Event 4)
1st Place - Deadheads - Audi A5
2nd Place - Mountain View - Astra
3rd Place - Bangers Racing - Alfa 156

The higher seeded Audi A5 ran well to secure 1st place, in fact the fastest car of the entire field on this run. Very surprised to see Mountain View Class A Opel Astra running so well to secure 2nd Place. 3rd Place probably a bit surprised to find themselves behind the Astra.

Class A Constructed Cars
1st Place - Mountain View - Astra
2nd Place - ManxEd- Calibra
3rd Place - Team Tatters - Honda Civic

Great result for the Astra of Mountain View, well done.

Class B Constructed Cars
1st Place - Deadheads - Audi A5
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - BMW 3.0CSL
3rd Place - Savage GT - Mustang

It looks like the Audi A5 will be the one to beat in this class.

Class C Constructed Cars
1st Place - Deadheads - Rover SD1
2nd Place - Savage GT - Calibra
3rd Place - ManxBrian - Calibra

I suspect that there is going to be a real battle between these C Class Cars going forward.

Best Team
1st Place - Deadheads
2nd Place - Savage GT
3rd Place - Mountain View

A great start by the home team, how they will do once the cars leave for the mainland it is in the hands of the next hosts (and probably the gods) to determine the eventual outcome

Thanks Graham.

I just whizzed through the preview video and noted how well the cars I expected to go well actually did go well. I said the MV Astra was going to be a dark horse, I suspect that's going to be the one to catch in Class A.

As with previous proxies, I struggle to get my head around the class vs  event points but that's just me  Bigsmile
I would add my Calibra chassis is 3DP (Amato) not mass produced as you have on the list Graham  Talking
Thank you Kevan and team for all your time and effort  for round 1  Thumbup

The Calibra is a Slot it lightweight body, so it is still classified as a Class C constructed car. If it had been a Ninco or a Scalextric body with a 3d chassis it would have been classified as a Class B

There is 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards for the top 3 in each of the 4 Events,
There is a winner only award for each Class winner A, B and C
And there is a winner for Best Team (Event +Class points added) for those Teams entering 2 cars.

The points system assumes that we will get equal number of cars in each Event, but of course we don’t so therefore to keep it balanced and the results close we have the same available points for each Event based on 10 entries, if there are more than 10 in an Event then the minimum amount of points is 1. So points are awarded 20 for 1st, 15 for 2nd, 11 for 3rd, 8 for 4th, 6 for 5th, 5 for 6th, 4 for 7th, 3 for 8th, 2 for 9th and 1 for 10th…..The same system is used for the Class points allocation.

Now what could be simpler.

As the Rally Slotting Proxy was my first entry into Grahams series of proxies it was also a learning curve as regards Event/Class/Team points.

For this Touring Proxy Andy and myself purposely didn’t clash in either Event or Class and teamed up helping each other built the two cars.

I like the fact you can have more than one bite at the cherry and race on three different fronts.

The other thing to take into consideration is the opposition, Event 1 only has 6 cars (only 5 before Graham changed his cars) so you'd have a better chance of doing well in that event whereas Event 3 has 15 cars and littered with competition grade cars like SlotIt so you'd need to be good at car setup to do well in that event.

As far as class is concerned, Class A was wide open to a careful choice of car, Scaley sidewinder looks like the hot ticket here and only 8 cars whereas Class B is chocka with 22 cars, it's going to be very hard to do well in that class.

So next time round take other things into consideration before choosing your car, personally I'm warming to the idea of a Class A jobbie and expecting the older era event to be less populated again...but those two things don't always happen together i.e. Event 1 and Class A
