Hi Tamar

Just to say that I have ordered all the materials, but I looked a bit closer at the shaping of the Bott decals and they may not be a good fit (as you hinted!!!). So I have ordered a second pair of decals, and have chosen a different livery, one that I have only just seen for the first time, and one where it might be easier to hide a repair...the Project 1 Le Mans Art Car livery for 2019.

If I/we can get them to fit, I think it will look rather nice!

So there might be a delay whilst this second delivery comes over from Australia.

So, thinking ahead to when the wraps arrive, I suppose I should be getting on with putting the basis shell together...

How far do i need to go with assembly? Pictured are the three main components i assume need to be glued together, what else should i attach before wrapping?

Note that i have a flexible rear wing available to fit. I also have some detailed Scaleauto lexan windows. Are they worth installing over the standard windows for a 0.5g weight saving? This will be a DiSCA GT3 car.

Hello Jeremy

You can start by mounting the rear bumper to the main body.
Here's some additional info on how to, reposted from my original  DiSCA Proton Porsche topic on SF:

Next point of attention was at the rear of the car. Fisrt thing I did was to open up a slot for the rear lights, then I worked on the attachment point of the rear bumper to the main body.
As you can see Scaleauto has used a pin&retaining tab that protrudes quite far into the rear wheel well.
If you're going to run big wheels, an offset pod and a bit of body float (as I will) there's the risk that the tab will rub on the rear tyres.
So I dremelled them away.

Like all Scaleauto cars, the Posrche991 body is light and flexible, good for perfomance, not so good for durability ( the opposite being Carrera bodies).
Mind you they are strong enough for most of your regular slotracing activities...but running a car in the Oxigen LM 24hrs is beyond...regular.
Speeds on the 60ft long Mulsanne straight are way above regular.... and accidents do happen, specially at night....in the dark.

To reinforce joints I regularely use Kevlar strands pulled from a piece of Kevlar weave. You'll need a fresh and realy sharp pair of scissor to cut them to the right lenght as the stuff is almost unbreakable [Image: wink.png]
Here Zapp thick CA is used to seal the Kevals strands , fill the gaps and at the same time glue the parts together.
Used it at the fornt as well to reinforce the front splitter and the edges around te glass panels.
The results a strong and durable reinforcement that's less than 0,5mm thick.

I know that thread off by heart...but will re-read again!

I'm thinking that the standard windows will provide some necessary rigidity to the shell that the lexan won't.

I never fitted the Scaleauto vacformed windows because they fitted badly.

As a one piece replacement the vacform is just too big, it appears that Scaleauto used a set of stock windows to make the vacform buck.
As such the windows are 0,25 mm too big in all directions (the thickness of the vacformed material) and won't fit properly anymore from the inside.
I did try and got the best result by cutting the windows loose,  but the end result wasn't satisfactory to my liking.

With kind regards
Tamar

Rear bumper mounted...

Tabs by the wheel arches removed and replaced with glued reinforcement tape.

Also added a bit of adhesive to the middle section of the bumper to deal with rear end shunts, and formed two openings for rear lights.

Nice job so far - it's looking good! And it's nice and smooth too so should not take much to give it a nice shine.

Two lovely 'bott' wraps arrived in the post this morning.

So the 'Art Project' sets should be about another week and then we should be good to go, as i have got everything else on the equipment list.

Any other tasks to do prior to wrapping?
