Hi all, I have a Ninco McLaren GTR that I am in the process of upgrading. So far have replaced axles/wheels/tyres/gear etc but I am now looking to replace the motor. I believe the original to be an NC-1 (it doesn’t actually state what it is) and I’m wondering if there is a straight replacement I could purchase? The motor pod looks to be removable with 2 screw so happy to replace this, just need a bit of guidance really.
It’s for a home track, not huge so doesn’t have to be a high torque motor but open to suggestions..

Hey mate
Replacement will all depend on what you want to run it against. Also where about you are.
If in the UK - check out Pendleslot motors they do a 16k and 18k motor that will work. If in the US - there are a couple of choices - the H&R Hawk is 18 and would be a good choice and I think Slot Car Corner has a few options as well.
cheers

Purely home racing. My first attempt at upgrading so just trial and error at the moment. This will probably end up costing me more than buying a new slot it but it’s a fun process.
So far I have upgraded to:-
Slotting plus axle & bearings
Slot it inline crown gear
Staff 5 spoke wheels
Slot it P6 tyres, also have the F22s
I am in UK

Hello Newt,
The Ninco NC1 is a short can, can-end drive motor. These are used in some proxy race events and can be replaced with an equivalent known as BWA S-Can motors. However, the BWA motors are not generally available anymore.
However, my Ninco McLaren F1 has a long can Ninco NC2 motor with no pod. I don't know much about these cars so don't know if they had differing types of chassis. Is your car's chassis identified as for the GTR?

Update:
I just found an F1 GTR on Ebay that has the motor pod and short motor.

Hi Leo,
Same chassis as per your second picture with the removable pod. The original car was a Gulf No33 I believe which was a rather battered purchase and in its own right is my favourite go to for some home racing fun. Having upgraded so far it is so much quieter & smoother but deserves a better motor. Car has been completely resprayed.

The closest you will fine will be either a BWA motor or the readily available H&R Jack Rabbit motor. The BWA and NC1 both turn about 13Kat 12V, the H&R turns 14K. H&R also make the Hawk @ 18K if you want a bit more speed. Depending on the style of your track more speed may not be wanted.
The BWAs are out of production and getting hard to find.
The H&R motors can be found almost everywhere for about $10.
Enjoy

I don't know of any UK suppliers for the Jack-Rabbit, I had to buy from North America - paid 22USD for tow mottors plus 14USD for shipping.
The allowed NC1 equivalents for the proxy race are:
Ninco NC1, NC8, BWA-NC1 (old and new 2013 version), Cartrix TX-1, Pink Kar Power Plus 1, Artin white endbell 13,000 RPM/12v motor,M/T FF-050/SL1 slim can and M/T FC-130/SL1.
and H&R HRMJR1 Jack Rabbit Motor - 14,000 RPM
(some of these are not short-can types) The Ninco NC8 is very rare - I tried one once but it didn't do well.
If you are happy with a bit more performance there are some ScaleAuto motors that are short-can and drive can be taken from both ends.
Edit: For home use, 20,000 rpm is probably about as much as would be sensible.

They are if you know who to ask.....Apparently Mr Penrose is down to his last 3000 motors. I seem to remember him saying that the minimum purchase from his supplier was ten thousand items.

I think a Pioneer 18k (Typhoon 2) motor would work very well.
