Slot Rally Hill
#21

What a wonderful little track, as usual!

I would love to see a top view of the layout & an idea of the dimensions. It looks like you've fitted a very good layout into quite a small footprint.

regards

Mal.

Hi Mal,

Thank you for liking this twisty track.
An overall view can be seen in the first photo of this topic and in the video:

Shortly after the two basic segments were completed, I decided to add a third intermediate segment, that includes an intersection.
The track can be used with both two and three segments.
When using three segments, the direction of travel of one outer element must be changed with a switch placed under the track.

Three segments.                                                                                                                                The track layout for three segments.

The base material of the track is 4mm MDF.                                                                         The base construction.

Hello Hub,
With the 4mm baseboard, how deep is the slot?

Hi Leo,

The slot is about 10mm deep.
A slot has been made in the supports and the connecting strips, as you can see in the photos.

Sawing the connecting strips.                                                             The tunnel is the lowest part of the track, so I had to cut a slot in the 3mm plywood base board.

Here are a few photos more showing how the track construction was made:

The first layer of paint.                                                                                                                    Filing the slots for the braids.

Here are some photos of the making of the intersection.
It is recommended to apply a drop of superglue under the braids on the MDF track right next to the slits.
This prevents the connection between the braids and the MDF track from loosening.
Wherever the braids disappear through a slot, a drop of superglue is applied to the track surface, next to the slit.
Underneath the intersection, the crossing braids are separated by a small MDF separating board, which is glued to the first two braids and the MDF track.
Thereafter the crossing braids followed. They cannot make contact with the two already glued braids due to the separating board (short circuit).

The intersection slits have been filed.                                                                                     The double-sided adhesive tape has been added.

A drop of superglue in the area between the double-sided adhesive tape and the slit.                 The braids are now sufficiently glued to the track.

Before the tile adhesive can be applied, the braids and slots are covered with masking tape:
