I hope you enjoyed the weekend! We certainly had a lot of fun here.

As mentioned back on Saturday, this was the cat's contribution...

The gravel was swept away before the stage began on Saturday, but probably left a little dust. Maybe a factor in yesterday morning's times being a little quicker?

Graham's NSR Clio clocked 56.89 on Saturday and 55.56 yesterday. Phil B's SRC Porsche 914 went exactly a second quicker yesterday at 55.92. Those were the top two on the hill, with Leo's Delta S4 (57.62) and Ade's RS200 (59.23) the only other two sub-one minute times.

I definitely want to build the Devil's Dyke hillclimb again. The plan is to use it next month as the second stage of the Brighton to John o'Groats Road Race Proxy - and it will almost certainly return as part of the WHO Winter Rally-Sprint next January/February. But maybe another one-off weekend later in the year - including an unlimited (non-mag) class?... I shall be mulling that over.

Schedule for the final week

Wednesday 5pm - News Briefing
Thursday afternoon - Stage 10: Falmer Rallycross 2
Sunday morning - Stage 11: Brighton Ice Rink, followed by winners' celebrations.
Monday - cars packed up and ready to return (expect an email/message about return postage costs).

Yes, the Hillclimb was very good to me, thinking I might enter the Cio for the Brighton to John O'Groats Road Race then   Bigsmile  But then maybe not, I have something even faster in mind for that  Cool

WHO Winter Rally-Sprint News Briefing 6 – Wednesday 3 March 2021

This is the final week of the event! Just two stages remain - tomorrow and on Sunday. Last weekend’s hillclimb was devilish for some and heavenly for others. We’ll look back at that, re-cap the standings and introduce you to some exciting end-of-event news of prizes, merchandise and the official souvenir fanzine...

1. Stage 8: Devil’s Dyke to Saddlescombe 1. Building and running the hillclimb was super-exciting! The first run on Saturday afternoon saw some blistering performances and some cars that weren’t happy with the SCX Classic track. A total of seven cars failed to finish the stage, two mechanicals and five with blades too long. Coverage of the stage starts here.

The class podiums for Stage 8 were…

Class A: 1. Rebecca Shtasel, 2. Graham Edwards, 3. Doug Passell
Class B: 1. Graham Edwards, 2. Clive Mills, 3. David & Dylan Passell
Class C: 1. Graham Edwards, 2. Phil Barry, 3. Leo Capaldi

The full results for Stage 8 are here.

It was a stage that certainly shook up the standings. Graham moved into the lead of the event, with Phil B two seconds behind him. Alan B was still within five seconds of top spot in third, but Alan W had dropped nearly thirty seconds and six places to eighth. Graham also led Classes A and B. You can find the overall results after Stage 8 here.

2. Stage 9: Devil’s Dyke to Saddlescombe 2. There was an early morning start in near-darkness for the second run through the hillclimb. All cars completed the stage and the full 2 hours 30 minutes can be viewed on Facebook here. The SlotRacer coverage starts here.

The class podiums were...

Class A: 1. Graham Edwards, 2. Clive Mills, 3. Andy Player
Class B: 1. Andy & Rebecca, 2. Clive Mills 3. David & Dylan Passell
Class C: 1. Graham Edwards, 2. Phil Barry, 3. Sebastian Birchmore

The full results for Stage 8 are here.

The top seven positions remained the same, although the gap to the leading pair widened. Graham’s lead over Phil’s Porsche was 2.3 seconds, the gap to Alan B in third now 11.5 seconds. Sebastian has moved a little closer and is just five seconds adrift of that final podium spot. The overall standings after Stage 8 can be found here.

3. The final two stages… We return to the Ninco ‘Falmer Rally Cross’ stage on Thursday afternoon for another run through the off-road track. The direction will be reversed, although it'll be the same length as Stage 1. No live streaming for this one, but I’m planning to put together some video. The event finale is on Sunday morning. The whole of Stage 11 will be streamed live on Facebook from 8am, until the stage is complete - and we will then know who has won the rally. The Facebook event is here: https://fb.me/e/LkQ3gR4W

4. Prize cars – who gets ‘em? Jadlam Toys & Models are the main sponsors of the event and have sent the Scalextric BMW M3 for the rally winner. The Best in Show winner – voted by the Rally-Sprint hosts – will receive the SCX Audi S1. We’ll announce the Best in Show award on Saturday. Finally, the Sideways Skyline will go to the winner of a lucky dip, to be drawn live on Facebook, just before the final stage on Sunday. All the competitors' names (apart from me and Rebecca) will go into the hat. A big thank you to Jadlams and Gaugemaster for sending us the cars. Everyone's a winner - all competitors will be receiving a WHO Winter Rally-Sprint sticker, a SlotRacer Proxy sticker and a sheet of Jadlams stickers in their return box.

5. Official WHO Rally-Sprint 2021 souvenir mugs available now! Our Rally-Sprint hosts will be getting one of these each as a 'thank you' present. They are also available to buy at the print-on-demand website RedBubble. There are two types of ceramic mug – a classic 325ml mug, which Rebecca says is very high quality (keeps tea warm, microwave and dishwasher safe) and a 354ml ‘Tall’ mug for a bigger brew. The mugs are £9.90 plus postage from RedBubble: www.redbubble.com/i/mug/WHO-Winter-Rally-Sprint-2021-by-Woodcote

6. Official Souvenir Fanzine! This will be a bumper 56-page edition, with complete stage results, standings after each stage, pictures, reports and a smattering of articles – including one from Hub weighing up his three favourite slot rally cars. Editing is well underway and the fanzine will be available in around ten days time as a pdf download on this thread.

7. More 1:32 scale proxy racing next month? The Brighton to John o'Groats Proxy Road Race will be starting on 23 April, with cars assembling in Nottingham on or before Monday 12 April. If you're interested, it's time to get yourself over to the SlotRacer thread for the rules & regs: https://slotracer.online/community/showt...p?tid=1995

Next week’s final WHO Winter Rally-Sprint round-up will be posted here on Wednesday at 5pm UK time.

Stage 10 - Falmer Rally Cross 2

Dylan was first through the stage this time. As with any circuit, changing the direction makes a big difference. The off-road track was still a challenge  - particularly for the two Fabias -  but possibly less so than clockwise. However, the tarmac section doesn't have quite the same flow.

These were the Class A results:

1. Graham 98.83
2. Clive 104.6
3. Noah 108.7
4. Andy 110.4
5. Dylan 113.6
6. Jeremy 115.0
7. David 115.4
8. Rebecca 116.8
9. Simon 125.6
10. Doug 129.8
11. Paul 150.4
12. Mike 151.8
