Final Results of the Extreme Slotting 2022


   

   

OK folks, it is a wrap on another series, thoroughly enjoyed organising it and it was great that we had some new tracks to run on than last year and one or two new entrants. Special thank you to Wye Valley Club who ran the live Raid Slot car live event in conjunction in combination with our Proxy.

Final observations
R1 (Ninco) class
1st Place- Andy P - BMW X5
2nd Place- Mike S - Nemesis Bowler
3rd Place Gpa113 - VW Touareg
Very close class of cars and most of the entered cars could have been at the top at the end, however interesting that Mike S Nemesis Bowler is runner up for a 2nd year running by only one point. The BMW X5 of Andy P is really well balanced, not often the fastest but always on the podium, and it was this fact that secured the series win this year. Gpa113's VW Touareg was a new one in the series this year, seemed to have great potential, fast and quite stable on the challenges. The two Mitsubishi Pajero vans struggled again this year, always seem more unstable than the other runners.

R2 (SCX) Class
1st Place - Paul C - VW Touareg
2nd Place - Andy P - Thunderflash Buggy
3rd Place - James A - Mitsubishi Montero
Again this class became very closely matched towards the end, and eventually I had to decide it by having a 2nd run for the joint 2 cars over the series.
I found in the end that the VW Touareg of Paul C could be pushed abit more to take the bonus point, whereas the Thunderflash Buggy of Andy P just a little more unstable and did not take to being pushed any further.  It is the 2nd year that Paul's Touareg has won this class, so he obviously has the SCX Raid car expert in this class. James Montero seemed to lack some consistency this weekend, it felt like the motor was a little uneven running, perhaps needed a clean. The two Peugeots 405 were great to run this year, all the hosts commented positively on them, having seem how well the Lifeboats Racing team car ran on this last Round, left me wondering again why it had not done better in earlier Rounds. Out of the two, it seemed more stable this time around. Definitely a car to have I think 
Oxo's VW Touareg has some underlining problem, I don't remember anyone mentioning the issue with the front axle earlier, so perhaps the front gear becoming dislocated from the pinion has become a problem later on, perhaps acting as a brake.

R3 (Procar) Class
1st Place - Roadruners - Porsche 959
2nd Place - James A - Porsche 959
3rd Place - Hotlap - Mitsubishi Lancer
I felt today that James Porsche was running so much better than mine (Roadrunners), especially up the Hillclimb section, that I was left scratching my head as to why it did not perform as well earlier in the series. In my opinion this Porsche was better balanced than my car, but as usual it all depend so much on how the cars run on the very different tracks we run. Hotlap's Mitsubishi Lancer was also totally opposite, with it showing such great performance early on but this weekend it was a real dog to drive across the Trial section this time (could have easily given it a DNF). Perhaps the smaller rear wheels on this Lancer was not compatible with the track layout I had. The Hummer suffered on the loops on my track, needed more momentum perhaps, which was restricted because of the curves leading onto the loops on my track. But apart from that, driven steadily and carefully, it runs very well over the obstacles and up the hillclimb. 

R4 (Open) Class
1st Place - Roadrunners - Odyssey 21
Joint 2nd Place - AA Recovery - Transit Van & Savage GT - Mitsubishi Pajero
Again an easy win today for this car of mine (Roadrunners), obviously with the Mitoos chassis this car thrives on the challenges which are used to test these cars, on the other hand the AA recovery van was also based on the Mitoos chassis and was not far behind, only held back a little by being heavier and less stable of the two.
Savage GT - Mitsubishi Pajero was a very innovative approach to this class, with a Porsche 959 chassis under a Revell Snap kit car body. An excellent combination and not far off the pace of the Mitoos chassis cars overall.
More disappointing was the Citroen 2CV, it did not feel to far away for meeting the performance required, generally suffering because of the smaller tyre size and restricted droparm movement. Perhaps a bit more work may have been a different story, probably better to have dispensed with the wide wheel arches and put on bigger open wheels. The Datsun Truck was really not so effective as last year, the changes to the droparm (in order to make the car legal) seemed to destabilise the car, and it never really worked throughout the series.
