GT Sport Cars Slotting Proxy - Round 1 - Manx Slot Car Club
Five club members turned up to help run todays brilliant event, two driving, three marshalling, lots of banter, some super close racing, some eye opening surprises and one or two disappointments.
Cars were laid out in overall qualifying order with Makem Movers Wolf Dallara starting first driving the first two lanes solo as there are an odd number of cars to race on two lanes and finishing with the Green Stars Porsche and Bangers Ferrari 512BBLM being the last pairing.
Every car had braids cleaned with lighter fluid and a toothbrush prior to racing.
Track set at 12V
Races were 2 minutes long.
A couple of laps were done to dial-in controller settings to get the most out of the cars.
Andy raced the Wolf Dallara in Heat 1 in the yellow lane then Kev raced it in Heat 2 in the Blue lane. These are the favoured lanes by these two drivers so maximum performance was expected.
...it was obvious early on that although starting first as slowest qualifier, the Wolf Dallara wasn't going to finish last. One heat was paused while a loose guide eyelet was fixed back in place with a dab of glue to stop it happening again, the very shallow nose on the car leaves no room for the wires to rotate freely.
Class A cars:
- The BatManx Porsche was a pleasant surprise and went better than expected.
- Team Cube Ferrari 355 is a brilliant car...so easy to drive, very smooth.
- Manx Modsports Aston Martin was another great runner
- Both Merc CLK's topped the overall results for a while
Class B cars:
- Manx Modsports Ferrari ran as expected and should be competitive
- Courtney AMG is a great runner and would probably benefit from a little more ballast
- Harrisons Toyota Supra is another good race car that should do well
- BARacer's Porsche 907 was a very stable consistent car
Class C cars:
- These are the quick boys and the best heat score came in the last race as the Green Star Porsche is definitely a star with a bite...and appropriate paintjob
- Both of Andy's brass chassis cars were expected to feature high up and did so today
- Brumos Ferrari is a belter! closely followed by the Savage BMW M1
- Bangers Ferrari 512BBLM raced in the final two heats as top qualifier, went very well and should suit smaller tighter tracks
A couple of problem cars with braids that needed tweaking to get good continuity, these cars weren't raced until they would run properly.
Sadly on DNS as the Brumos BMW M1 couldn't get round to the start with what was initially thought to be a slipping spur, then a slipping pinion but closer inspection showed a huge amount of backlash i.e. barely touching gears.
...that problem is now corrected and the car will run great at the next track. A crying shame because if his Ferrari 458 was anything to go by we can expect the M1 to be quick!
There are a couple of videos but these may take a day or so to upload to Youtube.
As there's lots of images to upload I'll split the post into two.
