GT SPORTS CAR Slotting Builds
#41

I hope you're only joking Graham...

Not 'modified' but standard chassis as supplied by Scalextric, doesn't come with the plastic hatch.

The brass ballast is glued in the hole, it's not a working part of the chassis.

So before I go any further this obviously needs 100% clearing up please...is this Class A or not?

Rule reference:
General
G5) Ballast may be added but must be inside or as part of the chassis.

Had a think about this "loophole" in the rules, obviously you have interpreted the rules differently than what they were intended.
Basically the "standard chassis" should be as the RTR car chassis assembly was supplied, accepting your point that actually it is a combination of a chassis section with a chip access hatch, I would still see this as a modification of the chassis. If you take the chassis argument with the chip hatch hole,  then you have filled the hole with a fixing (brass piece) which would not have been included on the original model.

So Basically by replacing one part of the chassis assembly with another it is a modification of the standard model and would be classified as a Class B construction.

I'm not one for interpretation and loophole searching, I actually bought this as a fixer-upper without the hatch, I've got a couple of scaley cars with a hatch so will fit one and put the brass ballast on top of it.

I only checked the rules for ballast yesterday after finishing this build.

no duplicate car numbers is a big thing over the pond also .
dunno why .
not a biggie unless you intend to run a manufactured tampo livery . stickie roundels temporarily fix this if entrants want to return their cars to stock

also representing cars as how a 1-1 liveried car should look (even if it is a fantasy livery) in the class they are intended to compete in is heavily enforced . if it doesn't look the part it can be DQ'd

almost all of the above i have found myself in hot water for at one time or another
and never once an intentional breach
so easy to overlook the simple stuff when entering

Kev

Many thanks for that insight Kev, I do insist that entrants write their name on the chassis and I also use a sticker ID system. So mostly we have this covered. But it is a thought that “in the heat of the moment”   Hosts can still perhaps be confused by identically visual cars especially if they are run side by side. So I think it might be a good idea to ask the entrants to apply different decal numbers if we get into duplicate cars which I can see is more likely with the type of Event 4 GT3 cars.

I will insist this time around that cars are declared by the Registration date which is about a month before the date of receiving the cars. So that any anomalies like this can be resolved before the cars are sent. Obviously those who send their cars in first will be able to retain the numbers they have on their cars. Any late declarations will get a penalty, as will any cars arriving after the delivery date.

Now you know why most of my cars are #33 and silver.

Rummaging through GT/Sports for this proxy to find a couple of 'started' projects that I'd forgotten I'd started

Most of the chassis design is done for this Ferrari 365GTB/4 and it fits in Event 1

This was horrible and noisy, possibly due to mismatched gear profiles so now has an NSR pinion and SlotIt plastic SW gear and seems much quieter so will get more testing on Thursday evening

We set the track at 12V for a test session, in fact when other club members arrived we left it at that and everyone was testing various cars.

The gear change made a huge difference, much quieter.

As far as on track performance, it's OK but not nice to 'race' compared to some alternative Class B and C cars we tested last night.

I had a drive of a couple of Class C cars of Andy's and they fly round the track giving you lots of confidence...NOT what this Scaley Aston gives you.

I'm now rethinking my choice of car for Class A and have a couple of options to explore.

One other thing, lap times at 12V were only slightly down on the normal 13.8V, probably due to the cars being a bit easier to drive harder whilst being kinder to the tyres.

I've been working on a Class B SCX car, it's red so may be a Ferrari Thumbup and already has a Shark 22 in a SW pod cut into the original chassis

...been getting a set of rear boots sorted for it tonight.

I felt like I was getting left behind with too many car choices but finally getting somewhere.

As most club members were either away on holiday or down with the lurgy last week, testing didn't happen...
...now I'm down to the odd cough testing cars will definitely happen this Thursday
