Extreme Slotting 2022

The last set of obstacles are set alternatively right then left, this provides a good challenge on the left handed bend.

Over the brow and onto the final decent.    The drop is 2 ft 2 in, the track length spans 5 ft 9 in.  You need control down here,  there's a hairpin fast approaching!   And back to the Start/ Finish line.

5 laps for each entry.   Don't worry, the course was approved by the Health and Safety Executive.   They sent two lovely guys, Bo and Luke, who turned up in a bright orange Dodge Charger,  you can spot them at the Stadium section.   They approved everything immediately,  but did seem disappointed that at no point would the competitors by flying over ramps and jumps!  Next year maybe Rofl

I tried my Ninco Ford Pick up and it went fine. Everything worked first go, thank you Ninco  Thumbup
All entries were unpacked and given 3 laps. No issues,  just a few braids to sort.

EXTREME SLOTTING RALLY-RAID ROUND 6 - THE SEND SCRAMBLE.

ALL VEHICLES WERE GIVEN 4 LAPS WARM UP, WITH 2 EXTRA RUNS OVER THE OBSTACLES IF NEEDED TO GET THEM SET UP AS WELL AS I COULD.
THIS GAVE ME TIME TO ADJUST TO EACH ENTRY, AND WHAT A VARIED SELECTION!

ENTRIES RAN IN THE ORDER THEY APPEAR ON THE ENTRY SHEET.  2 LAPS PRACTICE, THEN STRAIGHT INTO 5 TIMED LAPS.

CLASS R1 -  NINCO

I really enjoyed these.  Quick across the flat, they belted up the steep incline, taking all the tight turns easily.   A very varied approach to obstacles,  ranging from great to not so, but little braking on the downhill runs meant a cautious approach here.

Incredibly close at the top, my own VW Touareg winning by 0.35 s from the Nemesis Bowler of Mike S.
The VW wasn't as quick,  but likes tight turns and cleared the obstacles easily.   One extra de slot on the bumps cost the Bowler the class win.
Six seconds back in 3rd was the BMW of Andy P.  Likes to tackle the bumps at speed, a great entry.
4th to 7th were covered by just 7 seconds,  so tightly bunched,  with the Mitsubishi of Paul C really not liking the placement of the obstacles,  and failing to clear section 5 on any of the laps.

Great fun, very evenly matched,  and they look cool.  They had plenty of speed at the top of the climb, with the Stadium section really sorting them  out.

EXTREME SLOTTING RALLY-RAID ROUND 6 - THE SEND SCRAMBLE

CLASS R2  -  SCX

EXACTLY THE SAME SET UP TIME FOR ALL CLASSES.   2 PRACTICE LAPS,  THEN 5 TIMED LAPS.

The SCX class entries drove quite differently on this course compared to the Ninco vehicles.
Much quicker across the obstacles, with 3 of the 6 finishers getting a clear round.   What they did lack was the same speed on the long incline.  They were a little steady up the climb, whilst the Ninco cars kept accelerating all the way to the top.   On overall times there was little to choose between them.

The top 3 all got round clear,  well done.
Class winner was the VW Touareg of Paul C.  The motor felt really good, you could really attack the course.  It skipped across all the boulders and obstacles.   Excellent entry.
2nd place was Hotlaps awesome Peugeot 405 TT.  Not the quickest on the flat,  or the climb, but really well set up, and only 3 seconds off the top spot. 3rd place to the Mitsubishi entered by James A.  As I noted, "Great drive, cleared everything,  very stable "".
Andy P's  little Sandbuggy was brilliant.  Different to drive, it's power to weight ratio took a bit of getting used to.  One big de slot at the top of the climb on the sharp right turn cost it a certain Podium place. Savage GT's VW was just behind, and was real fun.  Sorry Oxo Cube,  your VW really struggled,  everywhere.   It seems to have much stiffer braids than the others, which didn't help.   Sad to report that the great looking Peugeot 405 TT of Lifeboats Racing was a  DNF.  It wasn't running great, then stopped completely on lap 3.  A broken wire to the pick up being the culprit.

EXTREME SLOTTING RALLY-RAID ROUND 6  -  THE SEND SCRAMBLE

CLASS R3  -   PRO RTR CARS.

These were fun!
Super competitive class. The top 3 covered by only 3.6 seconds.   Wow!
To me they drove like a cross between the Ninco and SCX cars.  Good strong motors, but also great on the 5 sets of obstacles.
The results were very close, and not what I initially expected after set up and practice runs.

Top of the Class to Makern,  well done Gerry!   I remember this entry from last year. It simply went well everywhere on this particular course.  Even had  time for a quick de slot obstacles section 1.  Great fun to drive  Thumbup
The lovely pair of Porsche 959's came next. Separated by less than a tenth of a second,  unreal.  James A just getting the better of Team RoadRunners.   My comments said, "Didn't feel fast, but obviously was!"     3rd to Team RoadRunners,  with a seriously cool looking model.  Definitely now on the Most Wanted list!
4th was Hotlaps Mitsubishi,  just 7 seconds from the win.  It came off at the bottom of the decent on the final lap. Sorry Phil, it was a certain Podium lost. Apologies.   Just behind was Top Downs enormous Hummer!!  Seriously good effort Doug, this things awesome  Rofl
It struggled on the hairpins, accosted the barriers everywhere,  and was a hoot. The beautifully presented Mitsubishi of Lifeboats Racing lost its already loose bumper along the way,  but was great to drive,  if a little slower than the others.

EXTREME SLOTTING RALLY-RAID ROUND 6  -  THE SEND SCRAMBLE

CLASS R4  -  OPEN VEHICLES

The Class with the smallest number of entries,  but the biggest disparagy across times and success rate!

Dominated by the two Mitoos chassis vehicles.  These are seriously clever, and expensive,  bits of Slot kit.  They feel like they could tackle anything you could throw at them,  and I tried!     Very fast, they effortlessly dealt with the Ninco obstacles, but the added weight slowed them down on the climb, and the hairpin bend.
RoadRunners Odyssey bodied example taking the win by 7 seconds.  Absolutely spot on.  The AA patrol van of A A Recovery taking 2nd.  You convince yourself that it won't handle,  and will tip over, but no, it goes, and some!  The body is super lightweight,  and it looks superb belting around, with roof light flashing away.   Brilliant...
A long way back in 3rd was Savage GT's Mitsubishi.  It felt a bit all or nothing motor/ power wise?  It also managed to roll at the top of the steep incline right hander, onto the Ladder of Doom.  Luckily the barriers did there job, but it had me worried  Ambulance

The amazing little Citroen 2CV wide bodied Scratchbuilt entry of Qman was "given" 4th place.   It never actually completed a full lap as it simply refused to even contemplate section 5 of the obstacles,  and had to be carried across each time.  A bit more ground clearance,  and a  longer drop arm might be required.  On the rest of the course it flew!    Definitely quickest up the steep incline, it coped with the Ninco off road track,  and even cleared some of boulders and bumps.
Good to see Oxo Cube's Datsun Pick up back for another go.  It really does look good Yes
Performance wise, it didn't want to play......  After 10 minutes of trying it was given a DNF.   It sort of got to 4 laps, with so much help, but it just kept stopping,  everywhere.   The front of the guide doesn't appear to be properly in the slot, so the braids loose contact,  and it says NO!

Good to see the Hummer's being enjoyed for what it is, rather than it's ranking in the series  Thumbup

Wavegreen Good Morning,
many thanks for Pip in providing us with a great set up for his "Send Scramble" Round, I was a little worried about the cars disappearing out the window, and the bicycle in the background made me wonder just how far the cars would venture into the garden, good job there was no rain  Rofl

However in the main most of the cars appears to have made it around this torturous trial circuit unscathed  Sun

So as to the final standings after the 6th Round

Next the cars will be off to Wrexham where our Host Paul will be looking to run Round 7

Due to having a busy week ahead I will do the Raid Car De-briefing this morning

Raid Car De-briefing
Class R1 (Ninco)
Joint 1st - Andy P- BMW X5 & Gpa113's VW Touareg
Joint 3rd Place - Paul C- Mitsubishi Montero & Mike S - Nemesis Bowler
This will be a cliff hanger with  anyone of the top four cars likely to be the eventual winner, much to close to call. Gpa113's VW Touareg has crept up the table and no longer just an outside contender.

Class R2 (SCX)
1st Place - Paul C - VW Touareg
Joint 2nd Place - Andy P - Thunderflash Buggy & James A Mitsubishi Montero
Another difficult class of cars to predict the outcome, Pauls VW Touareg looking strong, but the other two not far behind.

Class 3 (Procars)
1st Place -RoadRunners- Porsche 959
2nd Place -Hotlap - Mitsubishi Lancer
3rd Place - Makem - Mitsubishi Lancer
Looking good for the Roadrunners Porsche, but still the Lancers not so far behind

Class 4 (Open)
1st Place -Roadrunners - Odyssey 21
2nd Place - AA Recovery - Transit Van
3rd Place - Savage GT - Mitsubishi Pajero
A growing lead now by the Roadrunners Odyssey over 2nd place AA Recovery Van (which is abit of Relief for Rosberg's reputation)  Bigsmile
The others struggling to keep up.

Just wanted to say a Big thanks to all of the entrants for sending such an impressive range of Off Road slot vehicles.
Each class got progressively quicker, but not by much.   The Mitoos chassis vehicles only 8 seconds quicker than the best two Ninco class, over this particular course.
It was great fun getting to try them all out, and good luck to everyone over the last few rounds.

Many thanks as always to Graham for putting this altogether. It's a lot of time and effort,  but is clearly much appreciated.   Well done on the new transportation system for the entries, it's a very neat solution.

Lifeboats Racing...... the Peugeot is fixed.  Just a wire pulled away from the guide,  usual sort of issue.  It has been tested and is going fine.

Looking forward to doing it all again next year  Thumbup

Hi All
The cars have arrived in North Wales all safe and ready to go, but the race will have to be on Tuesday as my house is in chaos due to a new kitchen being fitted.
So if you can all be patient we have a ninco raid track arranged for the runs at the Denbigh NWSCC so it should be a close run race. Will keep you updated on Tuesday ?
