Few words to say hello, Wavegreen

First Scalextric set was back in 1978ish Mini 1275 Rally Set, then I lost my way with family, sports etc etc. I came back to slot cars about ten years ago joining a great group of fellows in Dundee racing a mixed group of cars over the last decade from Vanquish CanAm to SCX rally & nearly everything in between.

After buying lots of different makes & models I'm 'trying' to focus my collection on Oval, Aston & Jaguar & whatever we as a group decide on racing at the moment (pre-covid) Ford/Ferrari NSR, Rally 4WD any make & GT3 Carrera.

Last three purchases have been Pioneer Legend (that's 5 now) Scalextric I-Pace & SCX WRX Audi as you'll see the Audi doesn't fit what's supposed to be my focus!

What would I like in my slot car garage this year WRX MINI replica.

Cheers Beer

We are Woodland Fort Slot Car Club, Crownhill Rd, Honicknowle, Plymouth, Devon PL5 3SQ  UK

The club was originally formed by a small group of friends who raced on a 6 lane, figure of 8 Scalextric track, I joined them early in 2018 and with a lot of help from the late Rob Lees we borrowed the old Four Lane Blacktop track (since purchased from Rob), this served to encourage the members and soon after another track was purchased (off eBay), this is the track we currently use (when COVID allowed) and the FLBT track will be used for demonstrations at events etc.
We race a number of classes and try to encompass most forms of slot racing, a standard Scalextric 'style' in Production Saloons to Anything goes 1/32 Sports/GT.
We also have 2 classes run as club cars, i/32 Trucks (brass/pianowire chassis with a vac formed 'Peterbuilt' style body, and 1/24 Sports utilising Parma production chassis & 16D motors within a lexan LMES type shell.
Anyone is welcome on our club nights, under 16's must bring a responsible adult, we have cars & controllers available to borrow or you can bring your own.

Obviously COVID means that we are currently not open but when allowed we will continue racing in a friendly (but competitive) nature

Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/woodlandfortslotcarclub

I will end by saying that without Robs help this club would still be sitting on the floor around a Scaley track, Robs friendship (I knew him for 30 years) and obvious enthusiasm for slot racing were the main reasons this club progressed, we will sadly miss you Rob. RIP

I am starting to build several 1/32nd and 1/24th cars with 60's Lexan (clear) bodies.

A question as I need some info - do I have to mask the screens with tape or can I use Micro mask in the windows. I will be using polycarbonate paint and am not sure if it will 'melt' the micromask as I know acrylic paints do not.

Any one have any info on this???

I'm not really a scratch-builder, more of a RTR tuner really, so I thought this thread belonged in the 1:32 Scale forum and not the Scratchbuild forum.

Anyway, someone had asked on another of my threads to show some of my cars. Here are a few repaints and cars with 3D printed chassis' that I have worked on...

A Sideways Ford Capri entered in past North American Group 5 Proxies. This one has Slot.It Flat-6 AW, Slot.It running gear, and NSR SuperGrip rear tires. I don't recall what gear ratio it runs.

A couple of bodies that I sprayed with the same Testor's "Star Spangled Blue".

The same Ford Mustang as in the above photo slammed for our Sportsman class and showing considerable track wear. This is my fastest car. It turned a 5.599 on my 80' routed wood mdf track. That's nearly two tenths faster than my next fastest, which happens to be the Porsche 908 pictured with it above. It has a blue Olifer chassis, an H&R Hawk SW motor, Slot.It running gear, and NSR SuperGrips on the rear.

The NSR Porsche 908 shown in front of a field of sports racers. This is my second fastest car. It ran a 5.783 on my 80' track. Stock NSR.

An SRC Porsche 914/6. This one has an Olifer 3D chassis, a Slot.It Flat-6 IL, and Slot.It running gear. It surprised me with a win in a round of the 2020 Trans Am U2.0L Proxy! It's fast lap on my home track is a 6.437.

An NSR Corvette C6R. This car has been de-motored to comply with local club regulations. It sports an NSR 19.5K King AW, 12/28 NSR gears, a stock NSR chassis, and NSR SuperGrips in the rear. It recently finished 4th in Round 2 of the 2021 North American GT3 Proxy. Of the other 26 other cars, not one is turning less than 25k!

A Fly Viper and a Fly Panoz GTR. Each of these cars sports an Olifer 3D printed chassis, an NSR Spanish King 19K motor IL, and Slot. It 9/26 gears. Both cars handle superbly and both are silky smooth. The Panoz handles so well that it's almost a bore to drive. It could easily handle more motor and will get a future upgrade. The Viper also handles superbly. It sometimes feels a little on edge in the corners, but always proves that it has grip to spare. It is a thrill to drive!

An MRRC Chaparral 2C and a Monogram Corvette Grand Sport. Each of these also sports an Olifer 3D printed chassis and Slot.It running gear. The GS is powered by an NSR 19.5K King motor and the Chaparral makes us of a Slot.It Flat-6. Both fun cars to drive.

Acquired this well used Scalextric car for a project, but it has glue residue where the rear wing was repaired...

How can I get this off without stripping the original paint/decal away?

I'm supposing lighter fuel, but would welcome advice.

Thanks in anticipation.

I finished these two just before Christmas along with the Kingcobra that I posted in the vintage section.

Revell/Monogram Lola T70 body bought secondhand from the estate of Colin Nichols who ran SSRC for a long time. It came mounted on a Slotit HRS chassis but it didn't fit very well and the chassis was cracked.

The chassis was inspired by a thread on another forum and is mainly lolly sticks with a bit of ply and brass tube. It is possible to run the axles directly in the wood but I couldn't get the holes to line up so I used bearings. Mine is more complicated than the original concept and I didn't make any drawings so I had to remake parts of it several times to get everything to fit.

I love the early USRRC cars and I bought this MRRC Kellison body several years ago in Pendle's sale but never got a chassis sorted. Really pleased with the sit of the car which looks just right to me.

I spoke to John Shorter who borrowed the body and drew up a 3D printed chassis. The front motor mount was slightly too short and needed a plasticard shim to hold the motor in tight but John has updated his printing file now and if anyone else wants a chassis he will be glad to print one for you for a very reasonable price. He can be contacted through the traders section (jsmay) or via Facebook.

How do they run?  Haven't a clue at the moment as I don't have a track at home so will have to wait until club reopens.

The Race Control System team - Marcel and Martin - have just announced that their relationship with Slot.it has stepped up a few gears in the past few months.

In practice, that means...

  • The RCS team will be more involved in testing before firmware updates for Slot.it products are released
  • The RCS team has created a test tool (DiagnoXigen) to help with problem analysis (beta release)
  • The RCS team is involved in developing oXigen to take the system to the next level
  • RCSO2 will be adapted to become the new default RMS for oXigen, replacing Chrono. RCSO2 is being re-built to offer a 20 car RMS which can be upgraded to have the usual RCS simulations, pace car features etc.
Marcel and Martin have said...

Quote:This last point we did not see coming 6 months ago, so has changed our plans for release dates. We were supposed to release the 8 car version of RCSO2 with SSD-C7042 support around now, but because we are working on making a valuable replacement of Chrono those releases will be later. We will keep you posted and in the mean time we continue our work on RCSO2 and of course the touch screens, but now knowing we have full support and vice versa of Slot.it.

That's great news for both oXigen and RCS fans Thumbup

The RCS website is: rcs64.com
