Hi all

After a little gap due to ill health for me and my little boy, and a house move, job move, Xmas and stuff getting in the way I'm just about ready to start planning an install in out garage for a full time track.

We have a normal (UK) sized single garage which ideally I'd like to have a track drop from the sky on a board ready and setup for use as and when

Size wise I have roughly 9' x 7' of clear floor/air space to play with, rest of the space is for slot car display/storage, boxes, tools, bikes and usually garage stuff.

I 'may' have the budget to motorise the drop and lift otherwise it'd be a pulley system

Loads of questions around how I could stabilise the board when it lowers (to stop it swinging), what board to use, has anyone done this before with a motorised drop and lift, best way of protecting track when it's not in use etc

Appreciate this is a bit vague and a lot of questions but thought I'd ask for advise before steaming headfirst into something.

Cheers

Rob

Hello everybody.
I'm from Porto, Portugal and my system at the moment is SCX digital.
Despite being discontinued, there is still a lot of material in the 2nd hand.
What made me opt for this system was the price, space, ease of arranging material, as Spain is right next door.
I acquired a 3D printer for printing some discontinued parts and to make the scenery of my circuit.

Good year for everyone.

... for a slot car forum ?  Rofl
If you want to see a slot car track, probably best you leave now and visit other posts  Bigsmile

Having just helped to move my parents into their new flat, My father now has room again for a model railway, so I decided to help out a bit.
I designed a layout for him, and have to admit I am rather quite enjoying this .... maybe I need to build my own .... no lets not go there  Rofl

But anyhoo, without further ado and keeping my post vaguely on topic, this is what I came up with after a few versions and discussions with my father:

For those who do not remeber it was this car:
[Image: LM-uVEePubZ4DRdR_XdhleW-QpP54ach_pKbnu_s...nyyT-T7Weg]
Mine was not as good,it was scratched, bumpers were broken, windshield had turned yellow, so i stripped it and repainted it using decals from the decal box
[Image: img20220104143836_00-jpg.291538]
To replace the yellowed windshield  i vacformed a new one using the old one as a mould. One thing leads to another,i 3dprinted  a new chassis.Gears and guide were also 3d printed in resin, motor pod in PETG
[Image: img20220104122412_00-jpg.291539]
Looking for rims i found that the best compromise was the original rims and tyres. So i copied the originals, 3d printed rims in PETG ,inserts in resin and cast urethane tyres,[Image: img20220104122501_00-copy-jpg.291542]

I 3d printed also the bumpers in resin[Image: img20220104122506_00-jpg.291543]
Finally i vacformed a cockpit.Here is the whole set[Image: img20220104122358_00-jpg.291544]

And the finished car[Image: img20220104143908_00-jpg.291546]

Information from Carrera has been hard to get hold of since distribution was moved in-house and away from the extremely helpful Hobby Company... but a list of their 2022 Evolution, D132, D124 and Go!!! cars was made available to UK retailers today.

Recommended retail prices for Evolution cars have gone up to £49.99, D132 to £69.99 and D124 to £89.99.

There are several new moulds, the highlight is certainly the 1971 Mercedes 300 6.8 SEL AMG 'Red Pig'...

This is the livery from the car's racing debut at the Spa 24 hours - where it won its class and would have won overall... if it wasn't for the excessive number of fuel stops required. But runner-up spot was pretty impressive! The photo is of a replica, painstakingly built by AMG in 2006 from the original plans and remains extremely popular at historic events around Europe.

The #35 is available as Evolution and D132 versions. There's also a #31 car listed - although we'll have no idea of what this looks like until the catalogue is released. There are no images on the list.

An addition to the modern GT range is a new BMW M4 GT3 in the works #1 presentation livery...

And this Mahle-sponsored car from iRacing...

The car doesn't officially start its real-life competition career until the 2022 season.

Both these liveries will be produced in Evolution, D132 and D124.

Another new GT car is the KTM X-Bow GT2/GTX...

This True Racing #16 car raced in the 2021 Fanatec GT2 European Series, winning at Spa. Available in both Evolution and D132. There's also a second livery...

...which is the GTX Concept version - the #75 True Racing 'Auto Motor und Sport' car which raced at the 2021 Nürburgring 24 Hours in the Cup-X class. This one is also available in Evolution and D132.

There's what could be a racing truck, named a 'Carrera Race Truckster' in two apparently fictitious liveries (Google didn't show anything) in D132 only. My hunch this is a reworking of the various trucks, ambulances etc already produced. We'll have to wait for pictures to be sure.

The other two new moulds are aimed at youngsters and are scaled-up versions of Go!!! cars - a Super Mario Kart in two liveries (Mario and Yoshi), plus a Build 'n' Race car in two liveries. These are available in Evolution and D132 versions.

The full lists are below, together with some pictures from Google image searches - so they might not be 100% reliable.

Wavegreen A very Happy New Year to you all !

As you see I have started the year with a new Thread for the first Round of the Series.

I am sending the proposed "Tour of England, Wales & Scotland" schedule plan to the hosts in order to firm up the dates.

I have attached the rules and entrants list again on this thread.

The costs of the inter- host transport has gone up a little (as I anticipated ) and we are planning to involve 10 host's (instead of the 6 previously) over a 2 month period.
So I have set the Entry fee as £15 to cover the basic inter host and return postal costs and winners medals for this series.

I will publish the schedule as soon as the hosts have confirmed.

Further details in regards to the associated remaining (open wheel and Le Mans Cars Plus) series will be posted on the earlier Triple Crown Thread.

I recently bought an old Scalextric Astra V8 as the basis for a potential Auslot Touring Car Proxy entry for later this year. I instinctively sought out a couple of 3DP chassis to try out under the body as the 'standard' upgrade route, but neither of them were a straight forward fit and would require some modifications to the body. So I had a play with the original chassis and installed all the main components I would be using in the series, and at first sight, everything seemed to slot into place quite nicely...

The series has a 23k motor limit and runs on smooth wood tracks. I am thinking that the rear bushing will need upgrading and the uprights will need a bit of bracing, and I will need to drill a couple of holes in the motor bracket so I can screw and glue the motor in place. But does anyone have any experience of pushing Scalextric chassis beyond their original performance envelope and have any advice for me?

Thanks

For 2022 I am launching the UK Hardbody Scale Racing Ranking, that will combine results from hardbody scale (1/32) events (individual or team, digital or analogue) in to one national ranking.

For an events results to be included the event must have a minimum number of entrants, with higher entries equating to larger point allocations. See below.

The event must be open to all comers, even if it is first come first served due to event size restrictions. This means interclub challenges or club only events will not be included.

Event rules must be evidently available and the event announcement and publication of results must be made on slot forum and / or slotracer online, not just Facebook other social media or proprietary websites.

I will have the definitive say as to whether an event is included or not based on the above principles.

I will publish the ranking at the end of every calendar month and if my powers of persuasion remain, a dedicated website will be developed.

This will evolve but I hope it encourages fun debate, greater event participation and maybe used as a basis for accolades and ranking based events.

Happy 2022

Matt
