Slotting Car Proxy Club

I was kinda thinking of a Mini Event of cars with maximum rear axles width of 50mm.

That'll definitely rule out sidewinders   Bigsmile

50mm sounds good to me  Thumbup

I measured my Scalex Mini with wider wheel arches to Ade's , so I think that is quite reasonable.

All this talk of Minis has me wanting to build another...and so an old Scaley Cooper is now in the post, the type without a chassis, the axles mounted into the interior.

Graham, a couple of questions:
  1. If there is to be a Mini proxy or a proxy with a Mini class, will it be only for molded bodyshells or will resin cast, fibreglass or 3D printed ones be allowed?
  2. Will bodyshells modified to look like ones raced in the past be allowed?
  3. Will there be a motor orientation restriction?
  4. Will there be a wheel/tyres size restriction?
  5. Will there be a chassis construction type restriction?
A few years ago we introduced a Mini class and development went crazy...but that class is no longer and we only see Minis now and again...but my enthusiasm for a new build was reignited after last weeks 'Monsters vs Minis' race that we had.

There's a lot of questions here..... Rofl

Basically I not had much time with organizing the current Proxy, club and National racing to work this out as yet.

But the fundamental idea in my mind is for a Touring Car Challenge type proxy, where there would be an emphasis on the "Challenge" side of things.
So to make it that way I had it in mind that each of the 3 Events would be based on scratch building rather than RTR cars.

I came across a Club Racing Class at South Manchester based on "BTCC Super Touring Cars of the 90's" , where you have to use Scalextric bodies fitted with Amato 3d chassis and the same Scaleauto 20k rpm motor. That sounds very interesting basis for a proxy event, although maybe not keeping to only one brand chassis or motor ?

Another Event I would choose would be for Over 2.0 Litre Touring cars of the 70's and 80's, which would be a more open class event.

And for a 3rd Event I was thinking of a pre 80's Touring cars for Under 2.0 litres, and then Ade presented me with the idea of running a Mini Touring car event ??
I think the first thing is whether there would be enough interest in a one specific car based event, and probably the answer is no. But the next best thing would be to have an event whereby a "Slot Car Mini" could have a competitive chance of running against a wider field of cars, so I am thinking of a pre 68 class of Under 2.0 litre Touring cars where the rear axle width (with tyre) would be restricted to 50mm. So the class could include the Ford Cortina, Anglia, Hillman/Sunbeam Imp etc, which might bring more interest ?

The rest of the details of the events I need to think about and decide by mid year.
1) Body shells could be restricted, depends on Event.
2) If the body looks representative it may be OK, but would want to agree to this based on individual entrant requests, but must be dimensional scale based models.
3) I don't like to restrict motor orientation, but I am not saying I would or not at this stage. I think the motor choice could be different for each event, but I am thinking a max limit for most motors to 21k (except Slimline) would not be a bad thing.
4) Tyre width maybe different for each Event, probably the early era Under 2.0l cars Max 8mm and the over 2.0L Max 10mm. Wheels with tyres fitted will need to be within the same diameter for all 4 wheels.
5) Chassis choice would be different for each event, the "Super Touring Cars" probably restricted to all 3d chassis, the over 2.0 litre cars could be more open to B&W or metal. Not sure about the early Under 2.0L cars yet.

The three Manx Amigos are already talking about building Minis, BARacer has already said he'd enter a Scaley Mini...so there's definitely mileage in the idea of a pre-'68 U2.0L class.

Best to change the word "metal" to steel.

Either that, or someone might show up with an aluminum chassis.

Technically speaking Aluminium chassis are permitted (under the Metal) criteria. I have no issue with them.
interesting if you compare the 2 B&W chassis cars in the current proxy you might be thinking they would have a similar advantage, but the construction of them is totally different and although they have different powered motors I would suggest the main difference in performance is mostly because of the way the 2 B&W chassis vary in construction.

One issue I do have is that these "Metal or B&W" scratchbuild chassis are obviously not commercially available to all the entrants, and do offer an advantage over the plastic based chassis in terms of basic stability. So I do now attempt to restrict them to an Event where perhaps they are less likely to be advantageous to the other plastic based chassis cars.

As a matter of interest I measured a Revoslot BMW 2002 & Ford Escort today which has a rear wheel/tyre width of 50mm, so should I include metal chassis in the early era Under 2.0L event ??? Perhaps inevitably we will be looking at using 2 Classes in this event for plastic and metal chassis cars ?

Pre 68 U2L is probably the home of the scratch builder as there isn't anything really competitive off the shelf other than a Gr.2 Revo.  If our 'small sports/saloons' is anything to go by it'll be 3D or B&W or heavily modified standard chassis with a pod if you want to get near the podium.

I humbly thank you Kevan. The only way I see a KRZ aluminum chassis being entered is, if someone buys one and enters it.

It would cost me the value of a new Thunderslot car or more to ship cars from the North Pole (Canada) to the UK, and back again.

It's good to know that there might be a place for aluminum in the future. Thank you, Graham.

I should be able to send cars in sometime in the future if I win the lottery.  Thumbup
