Good Morning
So it was great seeing how the cars ran on this very smooth routed wood track, many thanks to the Wirral Slot Car Club for providing us with the facilities for the Round.
General Comments
There will be an observation from the results that we ran the Modified & Revoslot Cars for 2 minute heats, and the Procars for 1 minute heats. It was the case that on the day that we thought there would be sufficient time to run all the Groups for 2 minute Heats. However we ran the 1st 2 groups by lunch time and then we realized that to finish by 4pm because of personal driver commitments we needed to shorten the race time for the Procar Group. Not ideal but since the groups are run separately it was the not likely to effect the overall picture, we of course should have run all the Groups at 1.5 minute heats which would have avoided the problem.
It is always the case that believe you have enough time based on actual heat running times, forgetting that track practice runs, changeovers, breaks & lunch take just as much time again if not more. So with 40 cars you need to get the planning perfectly right and probably in this case is wasn't, so probably my fault. However with that in mind I do believe the results reflected the true performance of the cars on this track.
Global GT Challenge Review Round 1
Modified Standard Cars for GT1 & GP3 (LMP/Group C)
As we know the Bangers Racing Marcos was placed into the GT1 class due to there being only one contender. In the event the only chance for this car would have been running in a class of its own...sorry Chris. On the other-hand the ModSports BMW V12 LMP was also in a Class of its own running a 4.8 sec lap time, the others running between 5 & 5.5 sec laps. The Porsche 911 GT1 of Mountain View taking a "turn" for the worse with some mechanical issues had to be retired for the rest of the Round.
So well done to:
GT1 Winner BatManx / Merc CLK
GP3 Winner ModSports / BMW V12 LMP
Revoslots for GT1, GT2 & GP3
This was always going to be a tightly run group I thought, but Brumos RSR Dodge Viper is not taking any notice of this at the moment, there's obviously something the rest of us are missing on these cars.
A good result for Makem Mclaren working well here, and RoadRunners Toyota GT-ONE, I certainly did not foresee that happening. On the otherhand the RoadRunners Lister Storm was very disappointing, and even more so the Marcos which gave up during the first heat and had to be retired.
But I think anything can happen with this group, perhaps even a miraculous recovery of the Marcos (hopefully)
So well done to:
GT1 Winner Makem /Mclaren GTR
GT2 Winner Brumos /RSR Dodge Viper
GP3 Winner RoadRunners / Toyota GT-ONE
ProCars for GT1, GT2 & GP3
Demon Tweeks Porsche Kremer with very impressive 4.65 sec Fastest lap time, but perhaps not so far ahead as I am imagined it would be.
A disappointing run for Green Star Porsche 956, I thought better of it and perhaps expected more from the Corvette C6R of Sam D
So well done to:
GT1 Winner Demon Tweeks / Lamborghini Murcielago
GT2 Winner ModSports / Corvette C5R
GP3 Winner Demon Tweeks / Porsche Kremer
So it appears that at least for the Manx Club members, they have something to celebrate on the first round, but also Brumos RSR, Makem and myself
