#91

Saturdays video hasn't been finished by Mike yet, he had a funeral to attend which has caused a delay...I will post youtube links when it's uploaded (the Rally Proxy took 26 hours to upload!!!).

Mike's popped in with the videos...he's had a 'mare with the footage as the HDD he was recording to has failed!
Using recovery software we do have some video but not what you'd call enjoyable watching as it breaks up a lot.
Nevertheless it's some kind of record of the days proceedings.
I'll upload the videos to YouTube in the coming days.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

I believe there is cause for optimism and that the Proxy can continue in the next week or so, hopefully the box of cars will be sent onto the NERCS Club for their Round on Tuesday 3rd October.

Obviously the planned schedule is not on track, as I have been thwarted by the actions of DPD and associated sub contractors.
I will be contacting the hosts to try to reschedule with the least disruption as I can manage.

The car pairings videos and preview video are uploaded into one playlist.

As I said, the HDD the videos were recorded to crashed and what we have is the result of recovery software doing it's best.

There's a fair bit of video missing and sound seems to disappear for long periods of time.

Sadly it won't be enjoyable viewing but it's a record of some of the action...

The playlist starts with the live preview video I did on the Friday before, then the races following are listed as below:

1+2 - Groundhogs Ford Capri + Scott Sports Ford Sierra
3+4 - Makem Movers Sunbeam + BARacer Ford Capri
5+6 - Groundhogs Ford Cortina + Lifeboats Racing Ford Galaxie
7+8 - Team Cube Rover SD1 + Alaric Ford Sierra
9+10 - Lifeboats Racing Alfa Romeo GTA + ALS BMW 2002
11+12 - Harrisons Racers BMW 320I + BARacer Alfa Romeo 155
13+14 - Scott Sports BMW 125i + Makem Movers Chevrolet Camaro
15+16 - Team Cube Vauxhall Vectra + Manx Ed Opel Calibra
17+18 - Red Dragons Renault Laguna + Ruscillo Racing BMW M3
19+20 - Brumos RSR BMW 2.8 + Green Star Racing Ford Escort
21+22 - Mountain View Vauxhall Astra + Team Tatters Honda Civic
23+24 - Manx Geoff Opel Calibra + Road Runners Honda Civic
25+26 - Red Devils Alfa Romeo GTA + ALS Audi A4
27+28 - Road Runners Ford Galaxie + Harrisons Racers Chevrolet Camaro
29+30 - Bangers Racing BMW 3.0 CSL + Bangers Racing Alfa Romeo 156
31+32 - Deadheads Andy Rover SD1 + Brumos RSR Porsche 911
33+34 - Mountain View BMW M3 + Manx Brian Nissan Skyline R32
35+36 - Ruscillo Racing Opel Calibra + Savage GT Ford Mustang
37+38 - Green Star Racing BMW M4 + WV Sam Nissan Skyline R32
39+40 - Deadheads Kev Audi RS5 + Team Tatters Opel Calibra
41+42 - Hotlap Opel Calibra + Savage GT Opel Calibra

Cars are laid out in pairs, both cars raced twice, once by Andy (middle lane, Andy's preferred practice lane), once by myself (outside lane, my preferred practice lane).

All cars had tyres and braids cleaned then lined up in the photo below then raced.  No practice laps for controller setup was allowed so a guess at settings based on the motor and adjust on-the-fly.

Youtube playlist link won't embed on the forum so you'll have to click the link below

Thanks for your efforts with the video Kevan  Thumbup
Although the marshalling was on the ball, I do feel it may be better going forward to run cars solo only.
If one should de-slot and block the other cars lane, this would affect the timing result for the non fault car.
Just my two pence worth  Talking

This was mentioned the week before the cars arrived, thoughts being solo runs are for Rally, there has to be some racing or its just a time trial.

With 5 of us entered in this proxy it was hard enough letting 3 of them down regarding driving them never mind just 1 driving.

Don't forget it's a points based proxy not a rolling time event.

Cars deslotting and slowing progress of the other car...that's racing as they say, first and foremost keep it fun.

It's quiet at work so watching the videos for the first time right through and despite the video and sound problems, enjoying the action.

TBH I've enjoyed this and the Rally proxy more than I expected and like the idea of a Proxy Series on our clubs racing calendar using Grahams motor list and build rules, all of us racing a different car each week and eventually racing each car through the years series. Maybe even allowing Proxy entries from outside our club.

I must agree with Kevan running 1 or in some cases just 2 lanes result in a qualifying run or time trial, not proxy racing.  I would definitely set up a a car differently for this versus 3-4 lane proxy racing.  Most of my cars in the past were built to be easy to drive/ more stable for extended period (3-4) lane racing by various drivers.  For short bursts it’s a different car similar to one I built when I needed to qualify into the GT3 proxy. It was fast, not forgiving but qualified into the field and finished 10th overall.  The same car the second year was built for racing was easier to drive, and finished 4th racing 3-4 lanes at the same time.

Before I state my piece, I am not knocking anyone , nor inferring this has happened, just stating my viewpoint  Sun

We will have to agree to disagree  Bigsmile
I set the car, as best I can, to be as fast as possible but more importantly IMO consistent and reliable.
If it happened to get paired with a car that was trickier to drive and through its de-slotting caused the more consistent car to be 5th instead of second, that is not showing the cars capabilities.
Obviously time constraints for hosts etc all come into play, but I stand by my opinion Rofl
