Rally Cars Slotting Proxy - Official Results & Reports
#21

Wavegreen Good evening,

yes we have the missing video of the Hyundai from Paul, so I can complete the Event 4 results for Stage 13

And the Stage Event 4 results for Stage 14

[Image: wavegreen.gif] Good Morning,

well all the videos have been checked for timings, a couple of pairs of cars in this Event 2 were so close that my hand timing meant that the original "Fastest Lap" results were more appropriate to use as they were effectively a dead heat tie. I cant measure indirectly a 0.2sec accuracy, so I will accept the placings standing, but I will use my measurements for inclusion into the data base for the run length time.

Round 7 Stage 13
Rally B Cars (Event 2)

Round 7 Stage 14
Rally B Cars (Event 2)

Many thanks to both Paul's for running the Round 7 at the Wirral Slot Car Club and on the Mountain View home track, it turned out a little more laborious then any of us would have liked, but bearing in mind it was the 1st time a Proxy was run on the WSR "Race of Champions Track" and that normally only the "Fastest Lap" measurements are used.

So hopefully the cars will be on their way to "Goldrock" this afternoon  [Image: camptrailer.gif]  where our host OXO Cube will be looking at running perhaps  Stage 15 this weekend and the Stage 16 the following weekend

I will update the Results on the database, then have a coffee before I take a look at the Pitlane Review....

Wavegreen Good Morning

I spent a little time looking over the google database, and if you are inclined to mull over the data from the previous Rounds there is a lot to be gleaned from it.

For example I was quite surprised to see which Event type cars had had been the most successful on the different Host Venues (or track types ?)

So if you take the last Round, then it seems that it favoured the Rally B cars (Event 2) greater than in any previous Round. And during Round 3 the most favoured cars were the WRC Modern (Event 4) cars more so than in any round so far.

Interesting to speculate where the strengths may lie in the final 3 Rounds perhaps.........

Pitlane Review
So for Round 7 we did have some timing issues during the Wirral Stage, but this was probably due to the different way in which the timing was being measured on this track. Luckily we had the Videos to fall back on, which I had not registered before as being more than of general interest. But in this case it was really useful in picking up failings in the recording data which went unnoticed in the heat of the moment whilst running the cars.
So I would encourage all the hosts to record the sessions as much as possible where the circumstances permit.

However I loved the "Race of Champions" track at the Wirral club, I thought it had plenty of bends for the cars to negotiate but was also very fast which is why I guess the Rally B cars did so well on this Round.

We did however sadly have a retirement of Ruscillo Racings Audi Quattro with a motor/gearing issue, and SSRC's Ford Focus seemed to struggle more so on the tight bends due to braid alignment, which I guess if given another run would have faired better.
Courtney's cars were very smooth and fast, both in the top 5 cars of the Round.

Cumulative Results (Rounds 1-7)
Monte Carlo (Event 1)
1st Place                              2nd Place                        3rd Place
ManxAndy                            ManxKev                         RoadRunners
Jaguar XK120                        Jaguar XK120                   Jaguar XK120

Its always dangerous to speculate to much, but in essence it looks like the super cool Jaguar of ManxAndy is too far down the road for the others to catch up.
The RoadRunners seem to be able to out pace ManxKev on the recent runs, possibly might even catch up by the end  Tease
The Austin Healey in 4th but seemed to lost it's mojo on recent runs.
A good run by the Alfa Gran Turismo on the Wirral Stage, only to loose out with guide scraping the track at Mountain View.
Novissime Iterum's Austin Landcrab liked the last Round and ran quite well, but they need to loose some of the baggage on the roof rack I think to prosper  Bigsmile

Rally B Cars (Event 2)
As I said above, this was the best Round so far for this group of cars.
1st Place                              2nd Place                                3rd Place
Bangers Racing                     Green Star Racing                   Harrison's Racers
Metro 64R                             De Tomaso                             Lancia 037

Similarly in this Event it is the Metro 6R4 of Bangers Racing which has a substantial lead, but for 2nd and 3rs places there is a really close battle between the De Tomaso of Green Star Racing and the Lancia 037 of Harrison's Racers. The Rounds have been less predictable for the 4th place BMW M1 of Savage GT, and there is a fair amount of catching up to do which will depend alot on the terrain of the last 3 rounds.

Rally Legends (Event 3)
1st Place                            2nd Place                                3rd Place
RoadRunners                      Savage GT                               BARacer
Fiat 131 Abarth                   Porsche 914/6                         Triumph TR7
Still hanging on to my lead the RoadRunners Fiat 131 Abarth struggled on the last Round against the mighty Porsche cars, so alot will depend on the road ahead (fingers crossed). Savage GT Porsche is the immediate threat and is continuing to shrink the lead. BARacer's Triumph TR7 similarly hanging onto to 3rd but with the Porsche of Brumos now less than a second behind.

WRC Modern (Event 4)
1st Place                              2nd Place                            3rd Place
Ruscillo Racing                      Bangers Racing                   Woodcote Racing
Citroen C4                             Citroen Saxo                       Subaru
The Citroen C4 of Ruscillo Racing lost ground a little on the last round, loosing out to the Citroen Saxo of Bangers Racing whom is now only around 7 secs behind.
And Woodcote Racing's Subaru only 5 secs behind the Saxo. All to play for in the remaining rounds.

Car Class A (Standard RTR Cars)
1st Place                          2nd Place                      3rd Place
Scott Sports                    Harrison's Racers              Team Alaric
Renault Clio                     Lancia 037                       Subaru
Scott Sports Renault still ahead at this point, but with Harrison's Racers Lancia 037 and Team Alaric Subaru not far behind.

Car Class B ( Modified or Scratchbuild)
1st Place                        2nd Place                       3rd Place
RoadRunners                  Ruscillo Racing              Bangers Racing
Fiat 131                          Citroen C4                      Citroen Saxo
with only 10 secs between the top 3 cars, this could be a nail biting last 3 Rounds

Car Class C ( ProCars)
1st Place                   2nd Place                    3rd Place
Savage GT                Green Star Racing         ManxAndy
Porsche 914/6            De Tomaso                   Jaguar XK120
Savage GT's Porsche 914/6 looks confortably ahead of the competition.
Green Star Racing's De Tomaso has taken 2nd place from ManxAndy's Jaguar.
Brumos Porsche 914/6 is closing on ManxAndy's 3rd place.

Team Points
1st Place - Bangers Racing
2nd Place - Savage GT
3rd Place - RoadRunners +Harrison's Racers
Bangers Racing had a really good run with both their cars in the last Round, the Saxo seems to have improved throughout the series. However Savage GT is back on a charge with their cars also running well, and having overtaken the RoadRunners is now in sight of regaining the lead again. Harrison's Racers matching RoadRunners with a great run by both their cars.

So we wait to see what Oxo Cube at Goldrock has in store for us, I am sure both his stages will be as thrilling as the others. Due to the Bank Holidays / Corenation etc there are two weeks allocated for Kevin to complete his Round.

It hasn't surprised me in the slightest that no Event 1 car has topped the timing chart on a single stage, they're narrow and have skinny tyres.

We have Slot Rally every 5 weeks on two different stages and these small classics are never seen at the top of the results on either stage.

ok , the tarmac stage is in the bag , took quite a bit longer than expected but was great fun
huge thanks to Ric for the time keeping and making sure the cars were ran in the correct order ( thankfully no marshalling req this stint )
track voltage was set at 12v ( i usually run 10v which is why the 1st result in event 1 had to be changed , i forgot to up the voltage )
Ultimate racer IR light bridge timing
3 lap tarmac sprint on Scally sport 75ft track
all the cars performed fantastically , some were more of a pleasure to drive , and not necessarily the fast ones either
although irrelevant in this format , i recorded fastest lap in the event of tie breaks  for overall finishing positions ( which only had to be used in event 2 )

any who , here are the results :-

jaguar shut out in this event , with only 1000th of a sec deciding the last 2 podium positions

both beamers rising to the top here , with old faithful proxy regular pantera hot on their heels

another shut out , this time 914's , with Savage GT's out in a league of its own on this tarmac stage

a far more closely contested event ( if you ignore Bangers Saxo bullet )

some excellent cars , and as said earlier they dont need to be fast to be entertaining , a classic example is the Landcrab , just brilliant !
some great contests between makes , 914 , TR7 , Subaru , XK120 , Audi
guys ... this has been great fun , and i'm looking forward to the rally section ( probably in 2x shifts during this week )
thankyou all for sending in these great cars and allowing me to run them
this tarmac section favoured the faster cars , but i  think the rally section will shake up the results a bit , watch this space :)
if i can get Ric's assistance again , i hope to get some video footage of the next section
weldone to all podiumites and good luck everyone for the next round

Hi guys
sorry for the delay in running the rally stage , i have had a leak in my new build garage / slot car room , which knocked out the electrics and my helper Ric fell ill which resulted in a hospital trip , but all is fine now , except the electrics which wont be fixed until mid week
anyhoo these are the results from the rally stage
a real shake up from the tarmac stage , the shallow slot on Scalextric classic track plus the hump back bridge resulted in 5x DNF's across the 4 events
i didn't want to damage any of these cars by trying to complete their round , i guess that's rally racing
this is the (adhock) track i used , with the SCX CHRONO rally start ramp and return loops , a couple of cross over sections , chicane , s-bend section and of course the hump back bridge , ran over 10 laps / car

timing was via LAPTRAX mobile phone timing , hence no footage sadly , and is recorded as 'min : sec : thou'

event 1 continued with the jaguar shut out , although shuffled a bit , 3x cars dragged the bottom of the slot but posted times , the #7 Alfa could not complete a lap so retired
event 2 was a shake up Andy's #4 Porsche taking top slot , with the #1 Lancia and #43 Pantera hot on his heels , 3x DNF's ( all joint 11th ) due to their deeper guides with the #3 BMW only just completing the stage
event 3 .... TR7's on the podium ! who woulda thunk it ,  just behind Graham's #52 Fiat , deeper guides really hurt the 914's with #78 having to be pulled after multiple off's on its 1st lap
event 4 , the closest contested section , is #5 lucky ?, Andy's #5 Subaru gave him his 2nd win , with James #5 Subaru and #5 Citroen keeping him honest

great fun even on my own , the shallow slot took a couple of casualties but all cars are all still in good condition and are packed ready for their next outing

just to reiterate , and as a reminder for Graham Yes , the timing is in ... 'minutes ; seconds ; tenth/thou' ...., I don't want to mess up the over all times

BTW ...  even if you not a monarchist .... have a great coronation day everyone  Beer

Nice one, #ManxJags doing us proud again...and how close were those first two overall on these two stages!

We've been using Laptrax for a few months now mainly thanks to Henri who did a video about it's use and I 3D printed a phone stand to put the phone above the track, it's a great free software.

Beers bought today for tomorrows celebrations, I'm looking forward to seeing a coronation for the first time  Beer

Thanks Kev,

Glad you managed to get your second stage completed,  sounds like you had a challenging week!

My little TR7 continues to go well, but the Ninco Focus seems to be struggling a bit.  Feels like they've been away for months,  perhaps it's homesick  Tease

'I 3D printed a phone stand to put the phone above the track'

i used the bendy clamp in the track picture , and realised a phone stand over the track would be the way to go , much like a light bridge ... great minds  Bigsmile .. Tinkercad here i come

'My little TR7 continues to go well, but the Ninco Focus seems to be struggling a bit'

yep your TR7 goes better than mine m8 , but they are always going to play 2nd fiddle to the 914's , as for the Focus , it too is up against alot of lower COG cars  ... maybe we should rethink our choices , nostalgia isn't winning for me  Tappingfoot
