Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023
Big Grin

STAGE 4a

The Jaguar XK120 from ManxKev opened this stage.  Very stable, and easy to drive.  A time of 58.15, with no de slots,  set the early

Good evening one and all,

The Slotracer.online forum Rally Proxy event 2023 has reached the SSRC in Surrey.  This is the Send Scalextric Racing Club,  but obviously renamed the Send Scalextric Rallying Club on this occasion  Thumbup

The two stages are very different.
4a is a combination of SCX super sliding/low grip and Scalextric Sport track.  This will  be a tight and tricky stage.
4b will  be my  Shed End Circuit,  4 lane permanent Scalextric Sport track,  repainted with ultra smooth masonry paint.  Fast but technical.

After the problems the SCX and Scalextric Classic track caused previous host Jeremy,  I am hoping for an easier time!

Here is Stage 4a.  Although the SCX Chrono start ramp is powering this stage, I am not using the timing system.  It likes inline,  anglewinder and cars with magnets,  but dislikes sidewinders if no magnet is included.  I'm using LapTrax, a free app, on my Samsung tablet.   A DS controller is being used, fitted with a  DS to SCX adapter.
Tight and tricky, with corners of different radius,  and no borders in certain places to catch out the unwary.
Each entry drives from the SCX start ramp down to the actual stage Start banner, then it's 5 laps of rallying action.

EVENT 1  MONTE CARLO RALLY

A REALLY NICE SET OF MODELS,  AND GREAT FUN TO GET TO TRY THEM OUT.

A clear lead after the first stage for ManxAndys Jaguar XK120, ahead of RoadRunners similar Jaguar,  with the lovely Austin Healey of Green Star close in third.  All to play for on the 2nd stage.  Top marks to the Austin Landcrab,  super fun, but a second DNF for the Alfa Romeo,  which didn't even make it from the start ramp to the actual stage start.......luckily the SSRC recovery truck was on hand.

EVENT 2    GROUP B RALLY CARS

A REALLY CLOSE GROUP, JUST 6 SECONDS SEPARATING THE FIELD, APART FROM 3 ENTRIES WHICH STRUGGLED TO GET ROUND, AND THE COURTNEY SPORTS PORSCHE,  WHICH FAILED TO MAKE THE FIRST BEND.  ONCE AGAIN THE SSRC RECOVERY TRUCK WAS CALLED INTO ACTION....

Top of the pile was the De Tomaso from Green Star.   This is a serial  Proxy contender, will we see it at Extreme Slotting  Rofl
Less than a tenth of a second behind was the mega little Metro 6R4 from Bangers Racing. A superb 3rd was the standard Scalextric Lancia Delta entered by Mountain View,  top job.    So close, and I think the Tarmac Stage will really suit some of these.

EVENT 3   RALLY LEGENDS

THIS IS MY TYPE OF ERA!    REALLY INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE NORMALLY DOMINANT PORSCHE 914/6 MODELS WOULD PERFORM ON THIS STAGE. UP AGAINST THEM ARE A TRIO OF BRITISH LEYLANDS FINEST, THE TRIUMPH TR7,  AND A VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER FIAT 131 ABARTH.  ADD IN AN ALFA GIULIA AND A FORD ESCORT,  THIS SHOULD BE GOOD Thumbup

As it turned out the normally dominant Porsche 914/6 was indeed quickest.  Savage GTs example so quick, and a pleasure to drive.  We'll done Tel  Wavegreen  Less than half a second back was the excellent Fiat 131 Abarth of RoadRunners,  with BARacers mighty Triumph TR7 sneaking 3rd from another Porsche,  this time JamesVWs pretty example,  which appears to have shaken its crew senseless already!

Only issue with this category was the Porsche of Courtney Sport,  which struggled its way round the SCX track, no de slots,  but it didn't really like it much. I am sure it will much prefer the following Tarmac Stage.   My own TR7 was underpowered,  Scott Sports Escort was quick, whilst the Alfa disliked the tightest bends.   Team Cubes TR7 required a smooth and steady approach,  possibly due to it being left hand drive  Rofl
