On a sympathetic tone, I do appreciate that some of our regular Proxy entrants would have never seen or raced on these earlier Scalextric or SCX tracks. Whereas seasoned Rally slot racers will instinctively be fitting shallow profile Rally Guides. So jamming of guides in the tracks would not be expected to occur.
So perhaps the case for a mandatory requirement to fit an approved guide is necessary in future.

Please remember that before 'proper' Rally cars started appearing in the late 70's (Stratos) we had family saloons and small sports cars, the likes of which we are seeing in the Classic Monte Carlo class that only ran on roads.

Well the Stratos was first produced in 1973, and won the WRC in 74, 75, and 76, and had actually ceased production by the late 70s, 1978 if memory serves.

As for the family saloons, yes I know and that's what I love about classic rallying, and the range of cars of course, which as you say we're seeing in this proxy which is great.

You're right about the Monte of course but those roads would often be potholed, and covered in snow and ice.

I guess my point was that if you only use smooth wood tracks, then the winner is likely to be more of a circuit racer which originally raced in a summer rally on good tarmaced roads, but would have no chance on an event like the RAC Rally. If you mix the tracks up a bit, it rewards the more versatile cars which can handle different tracks, and I think that's how it should be. That's just my preference, obviously, but it's all good.

I remember seeing a Stratos in a late 70's Manx Rally...lovely sounding car

We tried adding a few 1mm high 'bumps' to one of our tracks for Rally night once, it certainly added something extra.

I ran a Ninco Stratos at the recent Wye Valley Spring slot Rally, been sitting on the shelf for a number of years. And it ran really great, completely different from the very “difficult to run” Team Slot version.
I shall be using it on regular slot Rally events from now on. A definite favourite now

Hello, 

Good news, a large box of rallying slot cars has arrived in Surrey! 
Rather than DPD, who failed the collection 2 days in a row, previous host Jeremy delivered them in person 
This was clearly above the call of duty,  and a very generous gesture.   It was a pleasure to meet the WHO Digital Legends Champion in person!!  A very big thank you Jeremy,  from all of the competitors I am sure.


Second good bit of news......
Each entry has completed atleast 4000 laps of a 500 foot Scalextric classic layout,  without a single de slot!  
Sorry Jeremy,  couldn't resist that after our earlier conversation 

Wednesday evening is Badminton,  so will unbox, familiarise myself with the large entry and try some practice laps tomorrow.

Stage 4a will be Friday evening,  Stage 4b Saturday or Sunday. 

Looking forward to seeing how they all go....

In my experience DPD are on a par with EVRI/Herpes.

I always ask Graham to send to my local DHL depot. OK it is a 30 mile round trip but I am not waiting in for a delivery or pick up that never comes.
