Summer Grand Prix Proxy

I've been on holiday for a few weeks and the rounds have flown by, just catching up with the results and videos so far. Thank you to the hosts so far for and apologies the tatter cars seem to be causing a few issues with their fragility! Looking forward to this weekends round, first one for a while I'll be waiting for the results live as they come in!

The grid is lined up ready for the next round:

Thanks for letting me play with them, all the cars are a credit to their builders. I have given them a quick shake down to check they are working and will run the round over the weekend with results posted probably on Monday. My track tends to reward straight line acceleration/speed so we shall see how they get on.

Observations so far:
As noted in a previous round the Ferrari Squalo of Team RNLI has a bent rear axle so it bounces a bit but is still useable.

Mountain View's Shadow DN1 seems to be devoid of brakes so I will have to look at that, possibly losing contact with the copper tape so probably just needs a bit of braid adjustment.

Scott Sports Renault R28 has a loose rear wheel so I will glue that before the start.

The body on Team Tatters FW07 bounces up and down on the straights due to its lack of a rear fixing. Porpoising just like the current 1:1 cars I suppose so top marks for realism. Rofl It doesn't seem to affect the handling at all though, just looks a bit peculiar.

Was the real Williams FW40 that long? It resembles a stretch limo and there is probably room for a passenger.

An honourable mention for Bangers Racing Porsche 804 - first time I have ever seen a rubbish Scalextric Formula Junior turned into something remotely competitive. Bigsmile

Race Report
Here are the results from the Norfolk round. As Tel was laid low with the lurgy I had to run all the classes myself which was no great hardship as all the cars were just first class and a delight to drive. I love playing with other people's cars although they do show up my own lack of preparation skills. I couldn't build cars as good as these in a month of Sundays.

Each class was given a 25 lap run on my track, obviously I didn't drive them as hard as I would have in a competitive club environment and the aim was consistent running at about 95% of their capabilities avoiding any crashes and damage if possible. I am pleased to report that the whole event was run with just two off track excursions which didn't affect the results and is a true testament to the quality of the entries.

Class A - early flyers
Pretty similar results to the first three rounds here with the two Mercs to the front and the Scarab not far behind. The Bugatti and Ferrari, being taller more bulky cars weren't able to challenge but they are beautifully presented and a credit to their builders. Graham's W196 took the victory this time but only just.

Class B - Classic
Courtney's late entry Cooper was the class of the field but Graham's similar car was not that far off and may be able to challenge in later rounds. Bangers' Porsche 804 was a real revelation, it was a super handling car and could have been a contender for top spot with a faster motor and/or different gearing.

Class C - Legends
This was an absolute cracker with the top two places separated by just 2/10ths of a second over the 25 laps. Their times were virtually identical throughout their runs with just a single oversteering moment the deciding factor between the two. Paul's Shadow DN1 just pipped Steve's Ferrari 126C2 to the winning post with Chris' FW11 not far behind in third place.

Class D - Modern
Identical results to the first three rounds here so I think this class may have been settled already. Courtney's McLaren again the class of the field with a remarkable sub 5 second fastest lap, which is usually the province of my Thunderslot and Scale Auto GTs, but all the cars were pretty quick. I was surprised by how well the stretch limo Williams tackled the corners and it too turned in a superb fastest lap.

All that remains now is to pack up the cars for their trip North and thank all the entrants for allowing me the privilege of running their wonderful creations. I can't wait to see what turns up in the parcel for the Autumn proxy.

Wavegreen Good afternoon,

After a great weekend of watching the Goodwood "Festival of Speed" on the live streaming, it was great to see how our cars got on at Conington Park.
Many thanks to Brian for a great job of single handed running of the Round 4 of the Grand Prix.

The results have now been collated for Rounds 1-4 and are below

So we are back to NERCS club for the next Round 5 which should be taking place hopefully next Monday.

My Pitlane Review will be on Wednesday

I'm loving this proxy because most of the cars are tuned basic cars that go damned well and proves you don't need the latest and greatest releases.

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers

Wavegreen Good morning,
well it s actually Pitlane Review on a Thursday, as Wednesday got very busy  Rofl

Pitlane Review
So Brian did a really great job at Conington Park, many thanks to him and I hope his co -host is getting over the Covid. Luckily there were fewer cars this time which probably helped. No new reported running issues apart from the Shadow of Mountain View which seems to have gained a new lease of life, I guess due to some slight adjustment of the braids by Brian.
The cars have now been dispatched and have reportedly arrived in Sunderland for the NERCS club Round.

So after Rounds 1-4

Early Flyers
1st Place -RoadRunners - Mercedes W196
2nd Place -Mountain View - Mercedes W196
3rd Place - Team Cube - Scarab

Perhaps predictably the two Mercs of RoadRunners & Mountain View have kept ahead, although there is always the chance that the Scarab of Team Cube might again sneak a 2nd place or two.

Classic
1st Place -RoadRunners - Cooper Climax
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - Porsche 804
3rd Place -Team RNLI - Lotus 24

The faster of the Cooper Climax cars was the Courtney Sport entry this time around, which is abit worrying for the RoadRunners, but they have an awful lot of ground to make up to threaten the front runners.

Legends
Equal 1st Place - Team Tatters -  Williams FW07 & Ruscillo Racing's - Ferrari 126C
3rd Place- Mountain View - Shadow

This class looks the most dynamic and we are seeing changes taking place at each round. Both the Mountain View's Shadow and Bangers Racing's Williams FW11 making progress from earlier rounds.

Modern
1st Place - Courtney Sport - Mclaren MP4/13
2nd Place - Team Sport -Williams FW40
3rd Place - Team Tatters - Dallara

As Brian said this class looks to have the most consistent performance of the Series, and all the cars are fairly evenly spaced out. Perhaps the most surprising model is the Williams FW40 of Team Cube which is least typical of the cars entered in this class  but seems to be running very competitively. Maybe the "stretched Limo" modern F1 car is teaching us all something  Cool

Team Points
I am very happy to report that RoadRunners have indeed extended their lead again Sun
But we are still early on in the series, so "fingers crossed"
The rest of the pack are very closely matched, Mountain View, Team Tatters, Team Cube, Bangers Racing, Ruscillo Racing and now Courtney Sport have all very similar competitive teams.

So hopefully the NERCS lads will give us some more surprises next Monday when they are due to run the "halfway House" Round 5 of the Grand Prix.

I didn't get to drive any of the cars myself. (Race Control Duty)

However, there were some seriously quick cars and several broke the lap record (for our box standard cars).

That McLaren of Courtney Sports is an absolute animal.

The heavier cars were slower and fell over a bit, but all part of the fun.

Jim Scott fixed his bent axle and the car did OK.

The NERCS lads enjoyed the event and that is ultimately all that anyone can ask.

All packed up and ready for delivery to DHL on Wednesday.

Regards

Gerry
