Unusually, Street Stock qualified last - when the strip was nicely warmed up and the room temperature was quite toasty too. The stock Micro cars do seem to like it quite warm... But as I'm as interested as Iain to see how it pans out, Street Stock is today's lunchtime entertainment...
Micro Scalextric Street Stock Elimination Race - Round One
I suspect both Nico and Jeremy found it difficult to sleep last night, thinking about this first round match. Would Jeremy's car be Smokey Joe or Flash Gordon? The Rescue Units were on hand - and the Fire Dept on standby...
Not much smoke, but neither much speed - Nico can breathe freely! A 0.115 second win for the Jag - the ETs 0.650 and 0.757.
Rebecca and Sue lined-up for that eighth vs ninth showdown - and it was a close race. Rebecca managed a small lead off the line, but Sue's Audi was closing by the end. Not quite enough - a 0.015 second margin for the Porsche, the ETs 0.689 and 0.697.
Jane's Nissan only managed fourth in qualifying, but is often better in the race. Jane brushed aside the Team Ken Nissan - a 0.148 gap at the finish and the ETs 0.612 and 0.758. That will get Nico sweating again.
No, you're don't have double-vision - both Clive and Mary are running the same Bathurst liveries on their Audis. It was Clive that got the job done - a quick 0.638 against Mary's 0.713 to win by 0.082 seconds.
Into the lower half of the ladder - and second-seed Bill got past Pete by 0.181 seconds. Bill's ET in the DB5 was 0.662 and Pete's a slow 0.816.
The sixth race was a weird one - a huge hole shot for Kev saved his bacon against Jerome. The winning margin was 0.024, but Jerome's ET was quicker - 0.728 to Kev's 0.729. But it's all about who gets to the finish line first - and Kev's Jag goes through to fight again.
No such problems for Iain - the third qualifier beating Pat by a very comfortable 0.230 seconds - the ETs 0.651 and 0.824.
Finally, Andy's ex-police Ford Crown Vic beat Anna's Audi by 0.095 seconds - the ETs 0.644 and 0.722.
Next, some tasty second round and semi-final races...
