The box has materialised at Woodland Fort, great relief as I thought it would be touch and go if the cars could get down to the West Country for next day delivery. But after some nail biting and hair pulling at Edinburgh & Sunderland I am pleased to say DHL have got their act together again this time. And the lads at Woodland Fort hopefully will be ready to give us a final showdown.
Pitlane Review
So here we go for the last review of the American Road Race. It is obvious that the long journey around the country has taken its toll on some cars, some with mechanical or running issues emerging and others just seem to have lost performance. On the other hand some appeared to have really improved or perhaps just benefited from the demise of others. What is certain is that the diverse nature of the tracks used in this proxy has this a very unpredictable contest which was one of my main aims.
After Stages 1-9
Cannonball run
1st Courtney Sport -Porsche 911RSR
2nd Brumos RSR -Porsche 997
3rd Ruscillo Racing - Megane
Looking like this will be the final finishing positions, Team Tatters Mercedes AMG was making a late run it seems at NERCS but it probably has been a little inconsistent to be able to make it into the top three. Disappointing I am sure for Ruscillo racing who led the class for many of the earlier stages but Courtney Sport and Brumos Porsches have maintained momentum and risen to the challenges thrown down.
Pan American
1st Bangers Racing - AC Cobra
2nd RoadRunners - Corvette
3rd ALS - Corvette
Bangers Racing have this class in the bag, but the two Corvett's of RoadRunners and ALS look like going down to the wire for 2nd place. I think the wider Corvette will benefit on the Woodland track, so quite abit of nail biting for me tomorrow night.
Classic Trans Am & NASCARS
1st Brumos RSR - Camaro
2nd Team Tatters - Mustang
3rd Team Cube- Pontiac
Brumos Camaro has been very fast and very consistent throughout, and not likely to be dislodged from its position at the top of the class at the woodland track I think. Team Tatters Mustang has certainly had some very good results but perhaps like their Merc AMG, a little inconsistent. And finally the odd one out in this class, barring any disasters should be Team Cubes Pontiac for 3rd place.
Modern Trans Am & NASCARS
1st Courtney Sport - Porsche 914/6
2nd Bangers Racing -Porsche 911s
3rd Green Star Racing - De Tomaso
In the latter stages the Porsche 914/6 of Courtney Sport seems to gained the edge and should coast home with another win at Woodland Fort. Hopefully Bangers Racing Porsche 911 will find something extra on this last round of the Road race, but the Teams hopes may be fading abit of a win in this class. And finally Green Star's De Tomaso should get another podium finish in 3rd, unless we get a very surprising performance from my Greenwood Corvette which seems to have been getting better over the last few stages (fingers crossed- sorry AdeC).
Team Points
Well this is really a cliff hanger between Bangers Racing and Courtney Sport, but there can be only one winner so I maybe having to invoke the bonus point award for fastest team laps if there is a joint points result after the end of the round at Woodland Fort. Brumos RSR is looking relaxed as runner up team.
So good luck to everyone, I am sure come Friday morning we will know who the winners are in the American Road Race
I also have a few more Concours Entrants votes to collect, so the result of the George Turner Award will be announced in due course, hopefully before the end of next week.
