WHO Winter Rally-Sprint Proxy 2021 REPORT

So a real hill to climb today.

Just for information, my Peugeot is front engined and front wheel drive (with a rubber band to the rear), so not sure how it will performance in a non-horizontal situation.

I love puttering with gears

Never built a car for a non horizontal track.
Well, Maybe a 6 inch rise over 15 feet. Doesn't come close to the incline up to Devil's Dyke.
Hoping that Megz doesn't suffer as much as I did  climbing that thing on a mountain bike (from winchester) a few years back.

C'mon girl. Do well and there's a pair of lightweight axles in it for ya !

If your driver doesn't have the balls to go down that hill as well as up... there's still time to change your minds Checkeredflag

We're about two hours away from the start of the stage. The SCX Fiat 124 course car is super-happy whizzing down and up - I'll show you some of the highlights in a few minutes - and we're looking at 4 x Devil's Dyke to Saddlecombe runs to give an average stage time of around 70 seconds.

I haven't built a proper hillclimb like that since I was teenager Thumbup

Here's the stage...

We start at the top - in the car park of the Devil's Dyke pub.

Then we go down the hill, hitting the ice-effect curves - which have zero magnetic grip and a slippery surface...

After that hair-raising loss of traction, the road has its steepest gradient through the fir trees...

Round the A27 roundabout and underneath the SCX bridge, we then power along the 16-foot long straight going towards Saddlecombe.

After the long chicane, there's likely to be some traction issues - the track runs past the cat's litter tray. After use, the straight will look like something from the Acropolis rally... I will sweep up the gravel, but some dust will inevitably remain.

Round the Saddlecombe roundabout - to the left should be the villages of Poynings and Fulking... but in reality, we're in the shower room.

Back down Saddlecombe Road towards Brighton (more dust picked up on the tyres...), round the A27 roundabout and up and over the bridge...

The crest gets the little Fiat airborne at full throttle, so I'll need to watch out for that. Then it's the start of the hill proper...

... a good place for a power tap (indicated by the written-on track piece).

It gets steeper through the firs...

Really steep...

The SCX motor held the car stationary, but a standard Mabuchi starts to roll back at this point.

Lots of throttle to get up that ramp - and then it's the slippy-slidey stuff again!

A gentle crest at the top, turn right round the rally loop, and we're back at the pub...

Layout looks great!  Looking forward to seeing how the different cars handle it!

15 minutes...

Time to sweep cat litter off the straight and get the Class A cars ready for the stage.

A long course with potential for running through frosty/icy corners off the start, showers at Saddlecombe and back through gravel, dust and ice to the Devils Dyke pub.

Shame for the driver but I'm sure the navigator  Talking  will appreciate a pint  Beer - or two!  Beer Beer after that!

How about some marshy ground either side? (Cushions covered with a sheet - to break the fall I'm sure some of us will be heading for  Bigsmile )

No cars on the floor... yet.

The Scalextric WRC cars have been through...

That’s a podium of Rebecca, Graham & Doug.

Clive’s car failed to make it through the stage - guide way too long...
