Plafit Chassis
#1

Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they a gentle way into the world of scratch?

Are you limited with the bodies that will fit onto them?

How do they rate performance wise? Better than plastic for certain situations?

They seem nicely made...

So many options with them on different parts and upgrades to use.  I have one ready to run complete 1/32 chassis from them.  Needed a little adjustment on a plastic track to clear the track joints as it sits low.  Have not had the time to really get in to it, but seems to run good - needed a capacitor on the motor they used with it to reduce electrical noise.

Mostly I used their cheap entry level ready to run cars to get a cheap chassis from them.

Have more detail here on these cheap ones.

A very good chassis - a lot off options for set up and tuning. I wouldn't say a gentle way into the world of scratch though they do offer lots of options. I own a few 132 chassis but more 1/24 chassis.

Not really - aside from your slimline F1 type cars.

Way better than plastic chassis. Highly tuneable - very smooth runners once setup properly. May not be great on bumpy plastic track. Can be setup with magnets or non mag - foam wheels or rubber. We all run foam here.

Properly setup they are super smooth and fast.

cheers

Thanks for the responses so far.

A basic question...how do you attach bodies to them, for example, a Scaleauto GT3 1/32nd scale with 2 central body posts?

Are these available outside Japan?

You attach a connecting piece to each side of the body, usually connected to a softish piece of foam rubber that you glue to side of body. This then attaches to the chassis with 4 screws. I will take a pic of one I used in the IMCA worlds to show how it is done...

You can probably get them shipped via contact on their website http://www.bp-online.net/  The owner is a nice chap and very helpful, I would like to go to their office more but is a fair old drive from here with lovely Tokyo spanning a good portion of the journey.

For a previous slot car website I had got the following information from Banpro with reference to orders from overseas for individuals or stores.  This info is about 2 years old so prices may vary now.
  1. 1. 1 x mini cooper, 1 x VW Beetle    [One-piece unit value 30 US dollars ]
  1. 2. 10 x mini cooper, 10 x VW Beetle [One-piece unit value 26 US dollars ]
  1. 3. 50 x mini cooper, 50 x VW Beetle  [One-piece unit value 20 US dollars ]

Sorry  forgot to come back with pics. Hope they help.

You will see a white line between the metal Attachment and the body. This is a strong double sided tape that holds it to the side of the body. If size allows as has been said you can use foam rubber which will give isolation to the chassis.

Use the side packing mounts, they are lighter, you attach to the body with foam and screw the lower weights to them.

You typically will want to keep the guide spring tight, lower the rear a little more than the front to create grip, raise to lower grip.  Opposite of course of what we have been taught.  Once you’re fully set they run VERY well.  Camber won the Group 5 Proxy (current GT3) proxy.   I’ll post pics when I get a chance if it will help.

www.acehobbies.com is where I’ve found the parts I’ve needed.
