Belgian Kyalami - my Revell Track build
8th-Mar-22, 01:53 PM
So now that the track is here and ok, I ran some test laps to make sure it all worked still and thankfully it does.
I started by just having a look at what buildings I will use and how they will fit and more importantly how they will look.
Not too bad but definitely not final for now.
I then started trying out different base colours for the grass, earth etc etc.
The desert yellow and the green just do not work at all. It seems that the light brown continues to be the best base and more easily covered by the grasses and earth covering..
Any suggestions/experience to share??
I also founnd a product calle Himalaya stone at the local art shop, which is a putty paste, grey, with sand (Himalaya stone???? ) that I am using to start filling in all the cracks at the track joins. Works well.
Will need sanding and then the track painted- will be the lighter grey with white lines around the edges as per the real Kyalami.
And on we go

It's going to be awesome when finished, the layout looks really enjoyable.

Quite a bit of work done. I have painted the outsidee edges of the track in prep for the 2mm tape laid on it, prior to paintinh the track in grey, leaving stripes round the outside - as per the 1:1 Kyalami.
The twin braids also taped in prep for painting.
I havew also started a slightly lifelike copy of the famous Springbok Radio control tower, with quite a bit more to be done to finish it off.

Built on the external staircases that more replicate the originals as opposed to the wooden ladders in the kit
Some more detailing on the Grandstands that will sit opposite the pits. Not happy with this ones signage, so still to be stripped and replaced with more Souf Efrican signs.
Back in the early 2000's I bought this Scalex Centre Replica made out of card stock. Really was a superb job. They are now my'vintage' as I have had a few of his buildings for so long, and thus I will not change or delete the scalextric signs, and although nothing like this was on the original track, this is another cap 'doffing' to my scalextric origins.
I cleaned it up, added spectators including 'phographers corner'
and added the flowers to the flower trays.
You know - we have a lot of vendors on here that are doing spectators - what I am finding is a huge shortage of different SITTING spectators - just a thought for you manufacturers out there
