Brighton to John o'Groats Road Race -Proxy Event
#41

Wavegreen GOOD MORNING

So here is the  Fastest Team Event Trophy for the "Brighton to John O'Groats run" Personally donated by me.

I hope you like it, I do perhaps too much  Bigsmile

TEAM BRIEFING
As some of you eager beavers are already planning to send your cars in, let me just remind you of the "basic technical requirements"
1) Guides (flags) must be 6mm or less deep. And thickness no greater than 1.7mm
2) Chassis/motor clearance to the track must be min 1.5mm.
3) No magnets allowed
4) Maximum width Class A & B cars is 64mm, Class C cars is 58mm across the rear wheels & tyres.
5) Class A means Standard Scalextric cars. Class B is open which means all other makes or Class A modified, model kits or cars made from unrelated components. Class C Means cars which represent actual cars which ran in the Tour de France 1951-1979.
6) Motors Class A - Std Scalextric only. Class B motors unlimited rating but must be one of the type listed. Class C must be limited to a 20K rpm manufacturers rating at 12Volts.
7) Only plastic Chassis. No metal chassis.
8) Bodies and interiors including lightweight (where allowed) must be fully painted.
9) Wheel inserts, drivers and other authentic body parts should be fitted before the start of the event.
10) Tyres must be Rubber or Polyurethane from a commercial source. No silicone tyres allowed.

Points will be deducted from the team totals at the end of the event if cars are found to be not in compliance of the rules, and the penalty may vary depending as to whether the non compliance had given them an unfair advantage. Race positions may also be compromised if there is non compliance of the rules that gives a unfair advantage.

Good Luck teams !

Wavegreen GOOD MORNING

We have now 19 confirmed cars of the 24 reserved places in class A, 18 confirmed cars of the 26 reserved places in class B, and 13 confirmed of the 16 class C cars.
Hopefully we will soon be able to publish the full list of cars which have been put forward for this Road Race.

But to give you a flavour of what awaits us, I am delighted to say that so far we have probably the most diverse range of different cars to enter a slot car competition.

In classes A & B, we have so far 8 Rally, 2 BTCC, 2 DTM, 3 Supercars, 2 Muscle cars, 2 American Touring cars, 4 GT3 cars, 2 Sports cars, 2 Sports Coupe cars, 2 Touring cars, 3 Sports GT cars.

In Class C we have 6 different entries for the 70's, 3 GT40's for the 60's, and 3 classic 50's cars.

So there is some great  battles brewing to determine who has the fastest in each of the classes but also in each car type as well.

Who will reach John O'Groats in the fastest time  Time

What records can we set  Idea

Guessing my Scaleauto Ford RS200 won't be allowed to enter into Class B due to it's Group B heritage?

That's a shame. Although I'm hoping I'll be able to get my TR4 ready in time; in which case, the De Tomaso can move across and take part in Class B instead of C  Yes

Wavegreen   I would like to welcome Tony P to the Race, the news was a little slow reaching across the pond, in spite of our smoke signals. As the Class A & B classes was already  full, he will join us in Class C only.

PIT LANE NEWS !

There are still still some undecided teams in regard to their cars.

An unexpected withdrawl of a Bentley Continental due to parts being delayed at the port, but luckily for the team Audi has a spare Audi Quattro available.

Ford had a problem with one of their cars not being compliant in the Class C, which paved the way for the team to enter a GT40 in class C, this will give us a classic battle of the  3 GT40's entered.

Lamborghini found themselves without a driver for their Aventador, but having been told that they cannot run the car autonomously (as we not quite in that age yet), they have manged to procure the services of another driver (although not sure if he is familiar with the car at the moment)

My own Roadrunners cars are still on the workbench, Maclaren MP4-12C need some  tyres and has not been out on the track, my Mercedes 300SL had engine problems and I am waiting a replacement and the all carbon fibre Koenigsegg CCX Roadcar is still in the paint shop, the running rear and chassis still in production  Tappingfoot

Interesting, as they were produced as a road car, I can remember being blown away by one on Brighton seafront many years ago.

The RS200 was made by Ford Motor Sport division for 1984-1986. But was always intended for sale as a competition car, not as a road car. About 200 were assembled to satisfy FIA homologation rules and another 20 part kits.

The spirit of this competition is for cars based on commercially produced cars intended for general road use.
