Breaking news

Paint problems have ment that" the Beast" has had to be striped down and returned to the body shop after a significant failure occurred. However the factory manager has authorised  overtime so it is hoped the car will be on the track at Brighton as planed but may not be able to leave the West country untill Friday.

The transporters from South Carolina and North Norfolk arrived at the strip today. We'll get some pics of those - and the Canadian competitors - over the weekend. Maybe some too of the work team preparing the Eighth Mile for action next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not long to wait for the first action of the new series Wrench

Transport service has now departed from Bristol with instructions for priority routing.  We were unable to carry out full shake down trials prior to departure due to time constraints, whilst there is a minor risk of structural failure on some of the new bodywork modifications Evey precaution has been taken to minimise any risk to track staff  and spectators.

Woodcote

I put our cars in a box and left them on your doorstep.

The last thing I saw was a black cat running off with it. I trust she was taking it to a secure place.

Just three cars left the workshop today;

For the Micro Scalextric Street Stock class, a Porsche Boxster (interim decoration only).

For the Micro Scalextric Super Stock 6 class, the Nissan returns with tweaked gearing, otherwise pretty much as before.

For the NHRA 4 gear Pro Stock class, There's a new sponsor and custom paint job for the old Auto Club car. Last seasons' sponsors Die Hard, weren't willing to renew after their victories failed to generate sufficient media coverage.

The entry for the Nostalgia Micro Scalextric match racing class; the 32 Ford hot rod sedan, received a new display motor, but the mechanic found that the real motor wouldn't work as a result  Tappingfoot  Confidence is high that overtime working tonight will allow the car to be despatched tomorrow.

The 32 Ford hot rod sedan was ready in time for the lunchtime transport departure (Sat). Hopefully all cars will reach Brighton by Monday.  Wrench

Royal Mail in Brighton obviously got the message about the race - they delivered Iain and Alan’s packages this afternoon. Pete is dropping the Burley cars round this evening.

Photos tomorrow morning in front of Brighton Pavilion, I think…

Before I introduce the cars for this first event of the 2021-22 season on the Rock County Eighth Mile, I'm going start with some thanks...

First, a big thank you to everyone who has sent cars this time. I haven't been too proactive chasing people up, so it's great to see cars arrive from Canada, the USA, Norfolk, Gloucestershire, Surrey, Eastbourne, Worthing and Brighton. As our proxy HO drag racing moves from a lockdown laugh to more long-term fun, this looks like a very healthy core group.

A quick aside... if you've missed the start, don't feel you can't join in at any time over the next ten months. There's no points championship as such - but I will be creating a Hall of Fame on the back of the (slightly abridged) fanzines. And the two 'national' events each year will give extra kudos, of course.

Next, a massive thank you to those who have sent goodies in for the start of this series. I was completely overwhelmed when Clive sent me the haul of eight resin bodies and one diecast that came over from the last NTRA race specifically for our UK races. Thank you!

Bill also sent some more of his fabulous flame stencils (and a couple of awesome Hotwheels cars too!). Rose received more Dreamies from her secret admirer, something that might encourage a more paws-on involvement this term. There will be medals for all our class winners and event stickers for all participants. There'll also be SlotRacer Online stickers coming your way. A few Jadlam stickers and Super Tires are left - just ask if you want some. UK-based racers will be reminded of the Jadlam discount code.

So, get ready to meet the cars...

First to arrive were Ken's cars from Toronto (3,500 miles travelled)...

Ken is competing for the first time and his Street Stock, Super Stock 6.0 and Funny Car all look in great shape.

Surprisingly, Bill's cars travelled further (4,000 miles). He has added a lovely new DB5 for Street Stock, plus a Chevy 4-Gear to his squad...

Next are Jeremy's Street and Super Stock cars, all the way from Eastbourne...

Also returning is Laura's Aston Martin DB5 from the West Country...

There's been a lot of fabulous work going on in Al's Garage!

Look at that Mercedes Super Stock! A worthy successor to Hot Mustard. And the purple Corvette looks ready for some match-racing action.

Iain has a new 'Fruit of the Loom' paint job on his Funny Car and a Boxster for Street Stock...

My new Street Stock is still in the Paint Shop, but there's a Hot Wheels Henry J (thanks Bill!) almost ready for match racing...

Pete is back with Crazy Ivan and his silver Audi TT...

Clive's has a new Pro Stock to join his usual line-up...

Jane's all-conquering Street Stock is back, along with a Super Stock 6.0...

Jerome will be driving the DHL Funny Car this time, together with his rapid Street Stock Veyron...

Sue will be match racing Alan in their Nostalgia 4-Gears, plus her Audi is pretty quick in Street Stock...

Rebecca's Sanditon Motorsport Nissan has been the car to beat in Super Stock 6.0. It is joined with a full house of Street Stock, Top Fuel, Funny Car and Nostalgia Micro 2019 cars...

And finally, Rose gets a run in a Peugeot 206 to even out the numbers in Street Stock...
