Wavegreen Good Morning

Well done to the members of the Culverstone Slot Car Club for running the 2nd Round of the Global Touring Cars Challenge proxy.
The video's were great and we saw some good action.

Championship Review After Rounds 1 & 2
Smaller Saloon Cars (Event 1)
Class A Mini type cars
Fiery1 -Hillman Imp (7 pts)
BA Racing & Woodcote - Abarth 1000TC (4pts)

So far both the Abath's are on equal points, but ahead is the Hillman Imp of Fiery1

Class B Small Saloons
Brumos RSR - Porsche 911 (18pts)
AdeC - Alfa GTA - (17pts)
Roadrunners - Datsun 510 (16pts)

The little Silver rocket of Brumos run better at Culverstone whilst the Alfa of AdeC struggled. The fastest car by a whisker was Demon Tweeks Porsche, which has made up some ground after the mechnical failure on the previous round.

Super & BTC Touring Cars (event 2)
Class C   Super Touring
Modsports - Audi A4 (22pts)
Roadrunners - Volvo 850 Est (11pts)
Makem - Ford Mondeo (10pts)

Outstanding run again by Modsports Audi A4, this car will be hard to beat.

Class D   Modern BTCC
73Emgee - MG-6 (20pts)
Red Dragon - VW Passat (18pts)
Bangers Racing - Honda Civic (15pts)

Another great run by 73Emgee MG-6, looking good but the Passat of Red Dragon just behind.

Larger Saloons (event 3)
Class E    Muscle Cars
Roadrunners - Falcon XB (20pts)
Brumos RSR - Camaro (13pts)
Makem - Camaro (9pts)

All these cars seemed to struggle on this small track, the Falcon of Roadrunners just keeping the advantage.

Class F  DTM Type Cars
AdeC Calibre & the Peugeot 406's of Bangers Racing & Modsports (28pts)

Complete reversal of the Round 1 results for the top 3, this will be an interesting battle to follow.

Thanks to Colin and those at Culverstone for the previous round.  The cars have been safely transported to Viking SCC.  I was originally planning on hosting the Viking round last Thursday (21st); however, with the reschedule of the Wye Valley stage taking the pressure off the timetable a little, it has been moved to this Thursday (28th) as it was more convenient for a few of the club members (myself included).

Wavegreen Good evening,

tomorrow evening the 3rd Round of the proxy will be taking place at the Viking Slot Car Club
The Viking Club has a superb Policar 6 lane track, which I believe is in excess of 100ft lane length.

I have found a couple of photos off their facebook page.

Wishing the Club members all the best for the round.

Last night we ran round 3 of the proxy at a very warm and muggy Viking SCC.

Our track is a permanent 6 lane Policar layout with a lane length of approximately 80ft.  It's a fairly technical track with a mixture of tighter turns and longer bends, which tends to shake up the grid a little as, unlike on more sweeping wood tracks, here heavier cars can get left behind by those with more that are more nimble with punchy acceleration and stronger braking. Finding the balance between ease of drivability and aggressive pace will always be key here.

We opted to run two lanes on the evening (lanes 2 & 5) leaving ample room between the running cars so as not to interfere with each others races.  Myself and Andy Bishop took driver duties; running two minute heats before swapping cars and repeating (so every car was raced by each driver, giving a total distance for both lanes).  We were a couple of marshals down on the night meaning that deslots typically resulted in power-offs/track-calls.

Racing was very close at times, with the paired cars often finishing side by side.

There is video of the races which I will edit together and aim to upload by Monday

These were by far my favourite cars to run.  Each different with their own quirks; but all great fun to drive and all look really good on track...

The little Arbath's were great fun and are now top of my shopping list.  The Imp was a real handful, but enjoyable nevertheless and the Jag was a real surprise as to how well it cruised around the track. Both Porsches with their brass chassis setups were very smooth, with the No33 having the pace but the no9 being slightly more forgiving. All the Revo bodied cars ran well and looked exceptional too. Makem's BMW was a little noisy (even by Revo standards), on closer inspection it appears the motor is a little loose and can move in the chassis. The fixing screws appear fairly tight (I certainly didn't want to put any more force on them) so not sure what's going on there.  It's not slipping or losing mesh at present, but is likely the reason for the noise

The super-tourers were a mixed bag. The Mondeo and Sierra both performed very well around here and were each great to drive.  BA's Vectra lacked the oomph and didn't quite have the grip of some of the others, but was stable. Fiery's E30 looks stunning and goes very well out of the corners and in a straight line; but it really didn't get on well in the twisty bits, having to tip-toe around much of the track.  The Roadrunners Volvo felt very heavy to drive (slow to get going and to slow down), but it was stable and smooth once it was rolling.  I think a weight had come loose within it as you can hear it rattle about. Modsports Audi also felt very heavy (and noisy) to drive, but it was very planted and maintains its dominance in this class.  On arrival, one of its body mounts was unglued which should probably be rectified.
