Touring Cars Slotting - Official Results & Reports

Thanks Ade...I think I used screws with heads that were too big.

So Round 4 at Viking SCC was run late into the evening last night but is all done and dusted.  Firstly, thanks to all the entrants for entering cars and giving us the opportunity to run them.

We adopted a slightly different approach this event and run the cars over 2 minute sessions rather than a set amount of laps.  Cars were raced in pairs for two minutes and then swapped between the two drivers and raced for a further two minutes in the alternate lane.  With the end result being accumulative distance covered from the two lanes.  Fastest lap times for each car in each lane were also recorded (and an average of these two fastest laps taken to use in the event of a draw in race distance).

Viking SCC is a 6-Lane Policar track using Slotmaster timing.  Races were run at 12v using Truspeed BP2 controllers.  To get some perspective, last month we were running our "tuned" Super Touring Class.  Using this as a guide, a time in the low 7 second region is very very respectable. The quickest cars and drivers were getting into 7.0 territory with the front runner reaching an isolated sub 7 second time. Our Slot It DTM class (which runs stock with the exception of tyres) returns lap times typically in the high 7's for a well set up car.

Video footage was taken of each round last night and I will edit and upload that as and when I get the chance between work etc. I'll upload the podiums and results shortly...

Event 2:

Again, no surprise to see Bangers on the top spot... That guy really knows how to polish a turd (and is clearly the master of setting up an HRS2 Chassis!). His cars normally perform very well here.  Honestly wasn't expecting to see my little Escort on the podium, but it was born, bred and setup here so I think the home field advantage came into play a little... Chuffed nevertheless. Makem's Camaro was another worthy podium sitter. It sounds like a bag of spanners, but you can throw it around the track at great pace.  Any other day, Brumos' BMW could have been up there. It had the pace, but just wasn't quite as predictable on the limit in the bends.

Deadheads Rover SD1 - This is quite possibly the smoothest car I've ever driven and it is very stable... But, either the motor is on the way out or something else is occurring. The car just had no pace.  We briefly stuck it on the rolling road after (a snail's pace sighting lap) which perked it up a bit, and arguably it continued to pick up a little as the race distance went on, but there is definitely something amiss.

Lifeboats Alfa and its excessive rear axle play - Before racing, the car was tested very cautiously and was making noises that none of us liked the sound of, so to prevent the risk of stripping the spur gear, we took the decision to move one rear wheel inward to limit the play before running the car in anger. This seemed to do the trick and the gear meshed much nicer from this point.  It was also noted that the interior tray is fouling the rear tyre. All in all, the car has potential, but the setup didn't suit this track.

BARacer - Your Capri seemed to stutter in places "feels like he's got dirt in his carburettors" was the most apt description. Braids were thoroughly cleaned but the problem persisted. Braids are quite thick and stiff which may be a contributing factor but without opening the car up we cant really confirm or deny what's occurring.

I'm probably guilty of letting some bearing oil get in the motor.

A large box of cars has arrived safely in Norfolk. I will check them over in the next day or so and will be running the round on Sunday with the invaluable assistance of Tel (Savage GT).
