Rally Cars Slotting Proxy 2023

I had thought I would aim for a 5 lap / 1 minute round on my rally track.

Having run a number of cars on it, I'm guessing that might offer a range of +/- 5 seconds for finishing times

I would agree with that, my original hillclimb track used previously on the 1st Road Race had an average 15-20sec lap time, and certainly 5 laps was quite a struggle getting a clean run.I have not tried the new one but it is a similar length of about 32ft long. My Carrera (Tarmac) stage is between 8-10secs.

Our two stages are 11 laps/minute and 8 laps/minute and is what we would generally use.

The last time we ran a full Slot Rally championship was 2017, we had about 12 stages, a mix of plastic tracks and wood tracks but they were all as close to one minute run times as possible by adjusting the number of laps.

Yes I will leave it to the host to decide.

Stage Times (Rally & Tarmac stages) - Hosts will run each car according to the complexity of their tracks for a period for approximately 60 secs.  The number of laps to be run within this time is set by each host

When we run Rally events at our Club we also work out the number of laps so each Stage is approximately 60 seconds.

This format works really well,  and means all the Stages play an equal part in determining who does well, and who doesn't!

Good idea folks  Thumbup

Hi Folks,

3rd and last day of testing
.pdf Rally cars slotting -3rd Test Day.pdf Size: 18.98 KB  Downloads: 116

ALS Racing - Alfa Guilia GTV - put in a respectable time with the motor change from the Predator to the Scaleauto.

Groundhogs - Alfa Gran Turisimo - really good run, better than last time after the suspect motor changed
                  - Audi Quattro - some additional ballast in the front and loosed the back of the body helped this car to run smoother and faster.

SSRC - TR7 - front tyres just rubbing the front body wheel guards, donated some smaller front wheels/tyres to improve running. But not much faster afterall.
Ford Focus - strange ringing sound, probably axle through bearings, but did not seem to cause any running problems.

Manx Club Jaguars- Both running well, no issues there.

Teams Cube- Ferrari 308 - good, no issues
                  - TR7 - Seems to have the gremlins in this car, it hit a barrier and out popped the front body post again.
Decided to glue it in myself this time as we are running out of time to send it back. But ran it again afterwards and seemed OK

James@wyevalley - both cars running good, I am sure they are seasoned Rally cars anyway.

Roadrunners - Porsche 935- I tried very hard with this car, but whatever I did, the car seemed prone to taking a dive off the track. So finally I brought out the regular Rally Jaguar car I have run at Rally events before. It did have an old motor in so I swapped over the original for the SRC M3 I had in the Porsche (seemed a shame to waste it)
So we now have a 3 Jaguar race competition.

Finally took another look the slowest cars to see if I could at least improve their stability on the track.

Lifeboats Racing - Cortina- very difficult to stop it toppling over (even with the tonne of weight in it ) so I tried changing the distribution of the ballast and ended up replacing the guide as the original was very sloppy in the guide post hole. I think it is more stable although probably not any faster,

Makem- Austin Landcrab- I think perhaps the car will stay on the track better now, I added to ballast in the chassis behind the front axle, and also changed the guide which was too loose in the chassis guide holder, put a very thin spacer under the front and rear body posts just to raise the body up enough to stop some front and rear tyre rubbing on the body. So raceworthy now but probably won't worry the front runners  Rofl

Wavegreen Good Morning

Having finished checking all the cars , I will look to generate the Scrutineer report.

But here is the final ordered list of the cars which have been received and Test run

I would not read too much into this as such, as it did not include any tests runs where the cars de-slotted and it was only a simple "Tarmac" stage and nothing (not even my own cars) have yet been run on a "Rally" stage

Hopefully the remaining 6 cars will appear before the start date, they will be run as they are on the race day. Similarly the replacement car from Brumos RSR, should it arrive on time.
