Summer Grand Prix Proxy

Kev,
You were unlucky. If the tyre had stayed on the rim you might have got 3rd, the Scarab and the Ferrari were about equal in lap times.

yes gerry , but that is racing , break downs and all
but any of the issues so far are totally my own fault Gerry
1st was not securing the braid connections properly , and now a loose tyre due to not gluing properly Tappingfoot

all valuable lessons learnt and noted on the proxy journey    Thumbup

Wavegreen Good evening,
a great turn out at the NERCS club, ensured our cars were given the full Monty, in regards to Proxy racing.
As usual there was a little of both disappointment for some and encouragement for others, but that's the nature of the game.

So here is the Rounds 1-5 Results so far.

So the cars will be travelling South again tomorrow, and should have arrived to our next host by the end of the week, where the cars will be run on two exclusive club tracks provided by our Host Pip in Woking. I am sure our host we tell us abit more about them in due course.

In the meantime tomorrow we will review the current ups and downs in our Pitlane Review.

Wavegreen Good Morning

Many thanks again to the lads at NERCS for running Round 5 of the Grand Prix proxy

So at the "Halfway House" we have the ....

Pitlane Review Rounds 1-5

Early Flyers
1st Place -Roadrunners - Mercedes W196
2nd Place -Mountain View - Mercedes W196
3rd Place - Team Cube - Scarab

The two Mercs of RoadRunners and Mountain View still locked in a battle at the top of the class, Mountain views car the better car on the day at NERCS. Unfortunately the Scarab of Team Cube still suffering with technical issues, this time loose front tyre, lost out to the now revived Ferrari Squalo of RNLI. The garage managed to sort out the " Ferrari porpoising effect " by replacing the rear axle. I have passed this solution onto Toto Wolf at Mercedes as it might help his modern day team  Rofl

Classic
1st place - Roadrunners- Cooper Climax
2nd Place - Bangers Racing - Porsche 804
3rd Place - Team RNLI - Lotus 24

A kind of status quo has been reached between the first three cars, with the Roadrunners Cooper the clear leading car, Courtney Sport Cooper however is clearly the faster car in this group but quite a long way back.

Legends
1st Place - Team Tatters - Williams FW07
2nd Place - Ruscillo Racing - Ferrari 126C
3rd Place - Mountain View -Shadow DN1

It is nip and tuck at the front with this time the Williams of Team Tatters just ahead by one point of the Ferrari of Ruscillo Racing, not such a good run for the Mountain View Shadow putting them in 3rd place at this stage. And the Shadow now under increasing pressure from the Williams of Bangers Racing.

Modern
1st Place - Courtney Sport - Mclaren MP4/13
2nd Place - Team Cube - Williams FW40
3rd Place - Team Tatters - Dallara

Courtney Sports Mclaren now has a commanding lead of this class, with the rest of the field evenly strung out.

Team Points
Still increasing their dominance, Roadrunners Team are now 10 points clear at the top, followed by the pack of Team Tatters, Mountain View and Team Cube closely contending 2nd place. Similarly we have Bangers Racing, Rusillo Racing and now Courtney Sport contesting 5th place.

So there is still plenty of action to come, next stop is our new Host tracks at Woking who will be running both a routed wood and a painted plastic track for Rounds 6 & 7 over the next two weeks.

Good evening,

A nice big box of Slot Cars arrived safely today,  ready for the next 2 rounds of the Summer Grand Prix Proxy.

First up, a big thumbs up to organiser Grahan for a seriously impressive transportation system inside the box. Very clever, and clearly well thought out.

All the cars were unpacked,  and given a 10 lap run on my Shed End Circuit.  No problems or issues at all, so they had all travelled safely.

The Shed End Circuit is Scalextric Sport Track,  repainted with ultra smooth masonry paint to improve the quality of grip.
It uses a DS timing system,  with DS controllers,  and thus can be driven either clockwise or anti - clockwise.  Power is supplied via a Power Fusion variable transformer.   I have decided to run the event anti - clockwise,  as this is a better test of a cars handling ability.  As you can see from the photos the track is multi level and pretty technical,  so a good test handling and driveability.

Here are all four classes,  on the Shed End Circuit,  which at 56 foot 7 on the Green lane is the lane of choice for the next round.
We do run  a Grand Prix class at my club.  The generic Scalextric cars from the early 1990's,  repainted in actual Grand Prix team colours,  so I do have some experience of driving these type of cars.

I will be running the classes one at a time,  over the next few days, and will post the results once the Round is completed.

Really looking forward to this, especially after the test laps earlier.

RESULTS TIME  Wavegreen

SUMMER GRAND PRIX PROXY EVENT.      ROUND 6 -  SHED END CIRCUIT.
20 LAPS.      12 VOLTS.        SCALEXTRIC SPORT TRACK,  REPAINTED.          GREEN LANE.    56f 7in.

ALL CARS WERE GIVEN A 20 LAP WARM UP, THEN THE REAR TYRES WERE CLEANED ON MASKING TAPE,  THEN 20 LAPS AGAINST THE CLOCK.
I DROVE THEM HARD, BUT AS IF IT WERE A NO MARSHALING CLASS, SO NOT RIGHT ON THE LIMIT,  BUT PRETTY CLOSE WITH SOME!

CLASSES RUN THURSDAY,  FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.    BRILLIANT FUN, SOME GREAT CARS, SOME REAL SURPRISES AND WELL DONE TO EVERYONE FOR SUCH A HIGH STANDARD OF ENTRIES  Thumbup

CLASS A - EARLY FLYERS.

SUPER CLOSE RESULTS,  JUST 2 SECONDS SEPARATING THE MOUNTAIN VIEW & ROADRUNNERS MERCEDES W196s. BOTH SO COMPETITIVE.   3RD TO THE LOVELY SCARAB OF TEAM CUBE, WITH THE RNLI SUPERSQUALO & ROKERS ROAR BUGATTI NOT FAR BEHIND.

SUPER SELECTION OF CARS, MY FAVOURITE CLASS.

CLASS B - CLASSIC

HOW FAST WERE THESE!
THE COOPER CLIMAX OF COURTNEY SPORT TAKING THE WIN BY JUST UNDER 4 SECONDS FROM THE SIMILAR MODEL OF TEAM ROADRUNNERS.   BOTH UNBELIEVABLY QUICK, SO FAST AND SO AGILE.   BRILLIANT TO SEE BANGERS RACINGS LITTLE PORSCHE 804 IN ACTION,  WHO WOULD EVER HAVE THOUGHT ONE OF THESE COULD BE MADE TO GO FAST, OR EVEN GO AT ALL!
4TH PLACE TO THE SIDEWAYS LOTUS 24 OF RNLI, WHICH WAS GREAT FUN TO DRIFT AROUND EVERY CORNER.

CLASS C - LEGENDS

CLASS C PROVIDED REAL VARIETY.   TEAM TATTERS WILLIAMS TAKING THE WIN.  THIS SURPRISED ME, MAYBE THE LACK OF REAR BODY MOUNTS MADE IT APPEAR A LIITLE LOOSE, BUT BOY DOES IT HANDLE.
JUST 2 SECONDS BACK IN 2ND WAS THE CUTE FERRARI OF RUSCILLO RACING.  SO SMOOTH, AND QUIET.  A FUNNY LOOKING DESIGN,  BUT I LOVE IT.
ONLY 2 SECONDS BACK AGAIN, AND JUST 4 SECONDS OF THE WIN, CAME BANGERS RACING WILLIAMS FW11.  SUPER QUICK, BUT NOT QUITE AS AGILE ON THIS PARTICULAR LAYOUT.
A GREAT 4TH FOR THE LOVELY MATRA OF ROKERS ROAR,  5TH TO SCOTT SPORTS TYRELL,  AND 6TH PLACE THIS TIME TO THE SUPER COOL SHADOW OF MOUNTAIN VIEW,  WHICH RAN OUT OF GRIP AS THE LAPS WENT BY.

CLASS D  -  MODERN.

BLIMEY, THESE ARE QUICK!
THE LAP RECORD FOR THIS TRACK FELL, AND KEPT ON FALLING.

A CLEAR WIN FOR COURTNEY SPORTS MCLAREN,  PRETTY APT, AS THE MCLAREN FACTORY IS 4 MILES AWAY FROM HERE!
BLINDINGLY FAST, TERRIFIC HANDLING, A CHANGED CAR ONCE THE TYRES WERE CLEANED. FASTEST RACE LAP TO BOOT.

A SUPER 2ND PLACE TO THE DALLARA OF TEAM TATTERS. MY FAVOURITE CAR TO DRIVE. JUST SO WELL SET UP AND PERFECT ON THIS TRACK.  NOT FAR BEHIND WAS TEAM CUBES BLOODHOUND LAND SPEED RECORD CAR! OH SORRY, APPARENTLY ITS A MODERN WILLIAMS FORMULA 1, MY MISTAKE!   THIS IS SERIOUSLY LONG, I DONT WATCH FORMULA 1, ARE THEY REALLY THIS BIG??
ANYWAY IT GOES GREAT, HOW EVER LONG IT IS.

JUST OFF THE PODIUM WERE SCOTT SPORTS RENAULT,  WHICH LOST GRIP LATE ON, AND RUSCILLO RACINGS JORDAN, WHICH DIDNT MUCH LIKE THE SHED END CIRCUIT.

A PLEASURE TO DRIVE ALL FOUR CLASSES,  AND WELL DONE TO COURTNEY SPORTS FOR BEING THE QUICKEST CAR OF THE ROUND.
A MCLAREN WINS IN WOKING, PERHAPS I SHOULD SEND THEM AN EMAIL  Rofl

LOOKING FORWARD TO ROUND 7 ON MY ROUTED RACEWAY,  AND SEEING HOW THEY COPE WITH A SUPER SMOOTH, AND QUICKER TRACK.

OVER TO YOU GRAHAM FOR THE UPDATE ON SCORES....
