Triple Crown - American Road Race Slot Car Proxy Tour
#51

Race report:
Having spent a very pleasant Sunday playing with other people's cars I am pleased to report that everything went without a hitch. None of the cars broke down, nothing fell off them despite the odd trip to the scenery and the Race Coordinator software performed faultlessly.

Tel (Savage GT) came over to help and we shared the driving with two classes each. The track voltage was lowered to 12vdc at Graham's request so lap times were a little down from my 13.8vdc norm but not by very much and a couple of the class D cars were seriously quick with times in the NSR/Thunderslot bracket.

I used total time for the 25 laps as the primary measurement with fastest lap time as the secondary one. Our aim was to put in consistent lap times over the whole race rather than outright banzai laps which would have resulted in a lot of crashes and possible car damage. In practice the two measurements produced exactly the same result in 99.9% of cases.

Class A - Cannonball Run
A change in the order from round 1 with Ruscillo Racing's Ninco Mégane moving up one place and just shading the win from Brumos RSR's Porsche with Courtney's Porsche taking third spot. Green Star's Lambo slipped down to 5th mainly due to being a bit sluggish on the long straights. It handled well round the twisty bits but just lacked a bit of grunt in a straight line. Not that much to choose between the top 5 cars though and other tracks in the series may well shake up the order.

Class B - Pan American Classics
The same podium as round 1 but with 1st and 2nd spots being reversed. ALS Racing's Corvette taking the win with Banger Racing's Cobra very close behind. These two were the class of the field and the Corvette was an absolute joy to drive  - quiet as a whisper, smooth and planted. It wafted round the track as if floating on air. Roadrunner's Corvette again took 3rd place but I don't think it quite has the pace to challenge for the top spot.

As Graham mentioned in his report there are some very interesting cars in this class and the big American tanks, while not particularly fast, are hugely entertaining to drive.

Class C - Classic Trans Am & NASCARS
An identical result to round 1 with Brumos' Camaro in top spot closely followed by Team Tatters' Mustang and Team Cube's Pontiac slotting into 3rd place. I don't foresee the rest of the field challenging these three. Like Graham I was really surprised by the pace of the Pontiac, it is a wide and very long car with a huge rear overhang but it proceeded at a fair lick round the track without any drama or a single off in the 25 laps.

Class D - Modern Trans Am & NASCARS
This was the only class where the car with the fastest lap didn't win. Courtney's Porsche 914/6 is an absolute rocket ship with speed to rival Thunderslot/NSR. It's sub 5 second lap on my track is quite amazing at 12vdc and I ran it after the event at normal voltage when it got to within a 1/10th of the outright lap record! Bangers Racing's Porsche 911 was no slouch either and just edged 1st place from Courtney courtesy of a slightly more consistent, trouble free run. 3rd place was taken by Road Runner's Corvette which was fractionally ahead of Green Star Racing's Pantera in 4th. Both were some way behind the first two but other tracks may suit them better.

The cars are off to Canterbury tomorrow for the next round at Viking club so it just remains to thank Tel for his driving help, Graham for hosting the series, the competitors for trusting me with their lovely cars and our sponsors for providing the prizes. Thumbup

P.S.
Courtney, If you ever want to sell that Porsche 914/6 I will be first in the queue! Rofl

Thanks for hosting and running all the cars at your track Brian. Slightly less favourable results for me this time out, but I'm still in the mix so I'll take that.  Well done to those on the podiums. Looking forward to receiving the cars later this week and setting them loose around the Viking SCC track in the near future

Wavegreen Good Morning

Pit Lane Review

I am very pleased to announce that Woodland Fort Slot Club (Plymouth) will be hosting the final stage of the Road Race, so that makes 10 different hosts in 10 different locations around England, Wales and Scotland. They will treat it as a normal Club night race, so that will give us a great end to the Road Race.

Revised Schedule

Conington Park
Well it is a great looking scenic track, and many thanks for both our hosts there for running the cars. And providing us with a comprehensive report of the event. It also provided the teams some new opportunities and hopefully with the different track surfaces to come, there will be more surprises in store.

Cannonball Run
Ruscillo Racing were the winners here with their Ninco Megane, perhaps the wood tracks favour this car.

My local Club mate "Steve Ruscillo" who wanted to co- host with me at Harlequin, was taken into hospital last week with a serious condition, and I am pleased to say he is now out of Intensive Care and I hope recovering enough to enjoy this result. Get well soon Steve  Sun

Also finding it's feet, Brumos Porsche 997 seems to get better grip on this fast wood track securing 2nd place.

Pan American
Also very pleased that my "little" Corvette continues to hold onto 3rd place, but congratulations to ALS Racing as their  not so little "Red Corvette" was able to stretch its legs on this fast circuit. Bangers Racing AC Cobra slipped a position to 2nd this time around.

Classic Trans Am & NASCAR
This was really a re-run of the previous weekend, with Brumos RSR showing us who has the fastest Camaro, but with Team Tatters Mustang and Team Cube Pontiac in hot pursuit.

Modern Trans Am & NASCARS
Absolutely delighted to see my strange looking Greenwood Corvette make the 3rd place on the podium, it can fly after all  Rofl

And once again we are faced with a dual between the Porsche 911s of Bangers racing, and Porsche 914/6 of Courtney Sport for 1st and 2nd, this battle could go on throughout the series  Sun

Team Placings
Bangers Racing are on top this week, with Courtney Sport just one point behind, and Brumos RSR making up for lost points on the previous round securing 3rd place. Green Star Racing nots so lucky with their cars this time around, but on their local Club track should do well.

So the cars are packed ready to be collected, and should arrive in South East Kent tomorrow.

So this week I will be taking the cars out to Viking SCC. This is a 140ft, six lane Scalextric Sport track using Slotmaster race control software.

We alternate between clockwise and anti-clockwise about every four months. At the moment, it’s anti. A good lap around here is the low 8’s. An very good lap is in the high 7’s. A well tuned monster with a good pilot can get around here in the low 7’s.

As a club there are a few rounds where we run rubber, but we generally run silicone tyres. We have a club race night this Monday, then straight after and on Tuesday, we will be running a few hundred laps with rubber shod cars to rubber the track in as much as feasibly possible before the main event on Wednesday

I don’t know why two of those photos are upside down ?.

Here’s some wobbly on-board footage around the track:
