UK HO Drag Proxy Series 2021-22 - Race #2 July 2021
#61

No more mail deliveries today, sadly... So I'll do as Bill suggested - hold back some of the UK cars for a bit of match-racing at the weekend. They can be in the post on Monday.

We'll progress with the cars we have and start with Round 3 of the match races.

The decider between Alan and Clive saw a coin toss for choice of lanes. They lined up as they did in round 2...

Again, Alan's Camaro got away well - and that was that. A win by 0.148 seconds - the ETs 0.681 to 0.835. Alan wins the match 2-1.

The other decider was between Bill and Alan's Nostalgia Micro Corvettes...

This was another close one - the winning margin 0.013 seconds... the win and the match going to Alan! Their ETs were 0.427 and 0.437. Another comeback win for Alan 2 to 1.

Congrats to our match race winners - Alan, Nico, Rebecca and Iain. As always, each gets a match race winner's sticker Sun

Nostalgia T-Jet eliminators

With Bill's T-Jet delayed in transit, we had six cars lined up for first round of races. We started with Iain and Andy - first and last place qualifiers...

Both were pretty much on par with their best qualifying runs - which gave Iain a win by 0.203 seconds. Their ETs were 0.630 and 0.830. That put Iain straight through to the final.

The contest for the second final place was between Clive, Ken, Alan and Rebecca - Clive and Ken would race first...

Clive's pick-up didn't have the pace it showed on Tuesday, but Ken's Dodge couldn't quite take advantage. It was close - 0.031 seconds - but Clive won through to the semi. The ETs were 0.824 and 0.859.

Next were Alan and Rebecca...

This one went to Rebecca by 0.060 seconds - Alan's Anglia had an extremely iffy start and, despite turning on the non-mag afterburners, couldn't make it to the finish ahead of the Malcolm Durham tribute car. The ETs were 0.764 and 0.798.

That put Clive and Rebecca together in the one semi-final...

This was an upset - Rebecca winning by 0.031 seconds. Clive's car still didn't have the pace - clocking a 0.835 to Rebecca's slightly below-par 0.797.

It all looked very good for Iain...

And this is what happened in the final...

A good start...

And an even better finish...

To give Iain a comfortable win...

Congratulations! Iain's Chevy is the T-Jet to beat this year...

Here's the T-Jet ladder...

And all the stats from the eliminators...

The 4-Gear Funny Cars will follow about 8pm.

Nostalgia 4-Gear Funny Car Eliminators

Eight cars gave us a perfect ladder - four round 1 races, two semis and the final.

It all started with Alan and Iain...

As expected from their qualifying performances, Iain won by 0.406 seconds - their ETs 0.669 and 1.071.

Next was the fourth vs fifth place showdown...

Sue's white Dodge was away quickest, but Andy's Pontiac closed down the gap and finished 0.041 seconds ahead - the ETs 0.809 and 0.853.

Second place qualifier Nico lined up against Clive in the third race...

It was comfortable run for Nico, winning by 0.302 - his ET 0.718 to Clive's 1.009.

Finally for the first round, Rebecca faced Rose...

It was another comfortable win - this time 0.205 seconds. The ETs were 0.760 and 0.950.

The first semi-final was between Iain and Andy...

Iain took the win by 0.158 - his ET 0.676, Andy's 0.815.

Who'd meet Iain in the final?

This one was closer... Nico pulling out a 0.053 gap by the finish to take the win. Their ETs were 0.719 and 0.770. That put Nico into a final at his first event!

The two cars lined up for the final...

And this is what happened...

They were neck-and-neck to begin with...

... but then Iain just started to pull ahead...

It was a close one...

Congrats to Iain on another pancake win!

Here's the 4-Gear ladder...

And all the stats from the eliminators...

That's it for the racing this time - I hope you've enjoyed it. Congrats to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who took part - especially to Bill, who had the frustration of his pancake cars being delayed in the postal system.

When Bill's cars arrive, they will do a little match-racing - which I'll post on this thread.

I will aim to get cars away asap - especially any overseas cars that need a trip back to base before September.

I agree wholeheartedly, thanks must go to Andy for carrying on with these events. I know how much work he puts into them. I must congratulate all the winners but it was a shame that Bills cars did not arrive in time and I know how frustrating the postal system can be. Nico has made a great start and I think that we will all have to up our game for future races. Well done Nico Thumbup. See you all again next time.

Andy,

Thanks a million for all your efforts including all the work behind the scenes!  Thankyoublue

You made this a fun event to watch.  Beer Pizza

Congrats to all the winners! A field of very cool looking cars too.   Checkeredflag

I came in last at the last event, and basically left my cars there for 2-races. An expected ending to this race. There's only one way to go when you're a newbie at the bottom. Sideways.  Thumbup

Great racing and coverage.  Congratulations to all of the winners.

Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of Nissans are showing up at the track now?  Wonder why???

Somehow I get the feeling that my cars are in for a long delay.  Please don’t hold up any cars on my account.  Racing against the locals or even the clock would be fine.

Oddly, I bought a few cars off of a fellow UK racer, that posted on July 7 and arrived yesterday.

Thanks
Bill

There is no hurry to send my cars back. So if Andy wants to hang on to them and race against Bill I am fine with that Wavegreen.  If Andy has the time at least he will have a run Thumbup
