Qualifying is underway... but the first competition of the day was judging 'Best in Show'. It was a close run thing between Nico's Chevy Vega, Iain's Pro Stock Camaro and Clive's '34 Ford Pick-Up. However, Rebecca was blown away by the exquisite work on the pick-up...

Congratulations to Clive Bravo

Edit: it's just been pointed out that the pick-up is a '33 Willys...

Qualifying started with the Micro Scalextric Super Stock 6.0 cars - and they were rapid, with the top 7 all clocking times under half a second...

Nico and Ken were separated by fastest second-best time. Iain's Nissan lost an exhaust pipe - but it has been successfully recovered and is safely in his return box.

Next up were the two pancake classes... which seemed really slow in comparison! A few cars needed a return to the garage for some work to get them fired-up. All cars got a thorough warm-up - and this is what they managed down the eighth mile...

Bill's pancake cars leave a big hole in those qualifying lists. If they arrive in the morning, the race officials have decided Bill's T-Jet will be slotted into the ladder and his 4-Gear will substitute for Rose's Camaro. Fingers-crossed... But even if they don't arrive in time, at least they will be here for the UK Autumn Nationals in September.

Expect the Street Stock qualifying results just before 8pm.

Street Stock qualifying was super-quick again...

Laura was top qualifier only after a count-back to hers and Bill's second-best scores. Jane, Clive and Jerome really aren't far away - Jerome's Veyron quickest through the speed trap at 8.373 mph.

Top speeds in the other classes were:

Super Stock 6.0: Alan & Rebecca - 12.675 mph
Nostalgia T-Jets: Alan - 9.334 mph
Nostalgia 4-Gear: Iain - 8.373 mph

Congrats to our Top Qualifiers for this event - Laura, Rebecca and Iain...

All the match race cars had some warm-up runs this afternoon. The Nostalgia Micro cars will line-up with matches between last time's winners and last time's runners up...
  • Bill vs Alan
  • Iain vs Rebecca

Having ripped these two beauties from their packets and soldered on some braid, there will be three Magnatraction / Xtraction matches tomorrow...
  • Alan vs Clive
  • Nico vs Iain
  • Andy vs Rebecca
It will be a busy day with 50 cars having arrived at the track to race...

Expect some results at lunchtime, more late afternoon and then Street Stock in the evening.

Thanks for the best in show, this pickup has already been run at Bear Creek raceway in Texas.
There are some great looking cars and some very close times in qualifying. Good luck everyone.
I hope Bills package arrives in time.

Match Racing - Round 1

Three pairs of Magna / Xtractions and two pairs of Nostalgia Micro cars will be match racing this time.

First to go were Alan's 'Grumpy's Toy' Camaro vs Clive's Corvette...

The Camaro stuttered off the line before getting going... but Clive wasn't going to give this one up. First blood to the Corvette by 0.064 seconds. The ETs were 0.794 and 0.850 seconds - Alan's speed 7.955 mph at the line, compared to Clive's 7.035.

Next were Nico and Iain...

Nico's Richard Petty Charger was very rapid, leaving Iain's Camaro in its wake. The winning margin was 0.100 seconds and the ETs 0.590 and 0.684. The speeds through the trap were 10.227 and 8.672 mph.

Finally for the pancake cars, there were two Camaros - Andy's "Rat Pack 1" and Rebecca's "California Flash"...

These were quick straight out of the packet - but Rebecca's was the winner by 0.037 seconds. The ETs were 0.655 and 0.691 - the speeds 8.690 and 7.955 mph.

On to the Nostalgia Micro cars and we started with the winners last time, Bill and Alan...

The first round went to Bill by a mere 0.003 of a second! The ETs were 0.437 to 0.438 and the speeds 11.769 and 10.985 mph.

The final bout of the first round of matches saw Iain's Ford race Rebecca's Mercury Hot Rod...

This was a rip-roaring run for Iain - an 0.415 ET and a win by 0.039 seconds. His speed through the line was 10.927. Rebecca's Merc was slightly faster at 10.958 but took longer to get going, her ET 0.456.

Round Two will follow mid-way through the afternoon's action - and any third round races will take place before the Street Stock eliminators this evening.

I still haven't decided whether to leave the pancake races until tomorrow. Nothing from Bill in the post today - I'll see if he has a tracking update...

Excellent choice for best of show.  That little Willys pickup is a beauty.  It was one of my top choices in one of the Nitro Slots event.  It is nice to see it get some recognition.

Pancake update: Both Bill and I have looked up the tracking code of his parcel on the USPS and Royal Mail websites - they agree it was processed at Heathrow on Monday and is currently in transit to its destination. There's a very good chance it'll be here in the next 24 hours, so I'll hold off the two pancake classes - Nostalgia T-Jet and Funny Car - until tomorrow evening. Hope that's okay.

I'll aim to get all the cars in the post to you Friday / Saturday. Anyone who wants their cars to stay here until September, please let me know Thumbup
