Some pictures of the Scalextric Batmobile have appeared today - along with a moderately half-decent article* and interview with the designer - on the Jadlam Racing Models blog...

Scalextric C4175 Batmobile - 1966 TV Series. RRP £45.99. On schedule for a March 2021 release.

These pictures are of the final pre-production sample - there will be some small changes to the decoration on the car and to the Batman figure for the production models.

There are loads of details on the car...

Inside, there are front headlights and the slim-can FF motor was the only option for the low profile of the Batmobile...

The full article - including the answer to the question of why Robin is missing - is on the Jadlam blog here.

The Batmobile is expected next month and is available for pre-order from all your favourite Scalextric retailers.

My corona track.
Hello from Germany, my name is Bernd, I'm 69 years old and have been running slot racing since 1980
Since our club track is currently closed, I have built my own little home track.
It started in December in my workshop, unfortunately without permanent heating. In December I quickly bought all the materials because all hardware stores are closed at Christmas until today. The landscape is currently being designed and a time measurement system will be installed shortly
. Track lenght is approx. 13 meter

Introducing a new Proxy Event for Slot-cars.

The “EV Triathlon” is an event comprising three aspects of competition and is for models of Electric Vehicles, specifically the Jaguar I-Pace. Scalextric only offer 4 of these cars, two low-spec in a set and two high-spec available individually. The low spec-cars have an interior tray and therefore the weight difference is about 5 grams. Experience has shown that the traction magnets are pretty essential for these tall vehicles so this is a “mag event”.
Although slot-car enthusiasts have been involved with electricity powered vehicles for decades there has been little engagement with the 1:1 sport despite Carrera and Slot.it producing models of the Gen1 Formula E cars and a Lola B12 EV  (and now Scalextric planning a Gen2 Formula E car).

The three disciplines are: 1-Rally, 2-Sprint, 3-Drag Race. Appropriate 1-twisty, 2-circuit type and 3-Drag Strip layouts will be used and all will be plastic section tracks.
The event will take place in May 2021 and entries or notes of interest are invited here. The regulations are in the next posting.

I am hoping that the simplicity of the regulations and the basis of the event will attract beginners as well as seasoned campaigners and for repeats in future years.
Feel free to ask related questions, either on this thread or to Forum user I.Pace

Policar CAR04e - March 701 - South African Grand Prix 1971 - John Love. RRP £59.95. Available 10 February 2021.

This is the fourth livery on the Policar March 701 - and it is a cracker. These Team Gunston colours were familiar in South African motor racing series from the late 60s and through the 1970s...

John Love dominated motor racing in southern Africa through the 1960s. A promising start to his European racing career saw him win the 1962 British Saloon Car Championship in a Mini Cooper and put in some superb performances in Formula Junior at the wheel of a Ken Tyrrell-prepared Cooper-Austin. A big crash at Albi brought a halt to a meteoric rise that almost certainly would have put him in a competitive F1 car for 1963. Instead, Love had to make do with ten appearances at his local World Championship Grand Prix. In 1967 he nearly won it. Leading the race at Kyalami, his Cooper Climax developed a misfire and a pit stop dropped him behind the works Cooper of Pedro Rodríguez.

Love won the South African Formula One Championship six times between 1964 and 1969. He also won his home race - the Rhodesian Grand Prix - six times. In the 1971 South African Grand Prix, he qualified this March 701 in twenty-first place, retiring from the race on lap 30 with a broken differential. His final South African Grand Prix outing would be the following year. Love owned and ran a Jaguar dealership in his home town and had his own stock car racing team in the 1980s. He died in 2005, aged 80.

As with all their classic Grand Prix cars, this Policar March is full of fabulous detail, as well as being a beautiful car to driver with the smooth Policar gearbox handling the power of the slim-can FF motor.

The car comes with plastic rear wheels, but replacement aluminium hubs and matching wheel inserts are also available.

The car is due for delivery to distributors next week and is available now for pre-order from all your usual Slot.it and Policar retailers.

A big thank you to Jo at Galileo Engineering for sending us these fabulous pictures of the new car.

The set I got as my starter pack getting into the hobby was the Gulf Racing set an log version. Cars that come with it are basic cars no working lights but that not a problem I new that. But the quality of the track is very poor as it pulls apart very & cheap tacky.

The weak link is the newer style of track fastening together they just pull apart out of the slits that the holesite they go into even the clip on the other fastener is rubish. So what I have done is rapted some insolation  tape round the smooth fastener ( 4 layers round ) and that hold the smooth fastener better in the hole / slit

So!

This is where all the cool kids are hanging out.

Very nice digs! My compliments.

Not much of a racer anymore. Still building this and that, as time permits and inspiration presents itself. Some years back I made a New Years resolution to address my vast collection of "Incompletes" and languishing projects; so as to whittle them down into the single digits.

Thanx for having me aboard,

Bill Hall
