Been busy since January helping out with the GT Raceways club members move the club track to its new premises in Battlesbridge Essex.

The track was out of action for 6 weeks plus during the move so gathered dust and the rails tarnished, the dust was easily removed the rails was more difficult so came up with a 3DP robot as below.

This uses Dremel type polishing mops held between cog and axle stopper on an axle driven in reverse by a Scalex motor all mounted in a separate pod that is sprung loaded to the main chassis (applies controllable pressure to the mops to the rails)  and the robot crawls round the track via a sidewinder NC1 motor geared 10:38 and fed from a diode dropper board to keep the speed down. Placing a shorting plug in the lane socket allows the robot to cruise round the track polishing the rails, and it is noticeable that after a a few laps the robot speeds up and drives more consistently.

Below is the STL file for the robot. Polishing mops I got a bag of 100 from Amazon for a tenner.

I have two customers request one of these, 1/32 Cadillac Ecto1

This bodyshell is resin 3D printed and took 14 hours.

...it's huge as you can see compared to a '69 Mustang Mach 1

The interior and roof extras are printing right this minute.

Formula Libre - Rd1 - 17th March 2022

The track was as bad as I've seen it last night, 5 laps on clean tyres and suddenly the grip had gone, no surprise that the lap records weren't troubled, although Ian & Mike seemed to pull some quick times, Mike having the only sub 4 second lap all night.

The racing was hard & fast with good battles (and plenty of nerfs) through the field, in the end it came down to a last race shootout between Ian & Bernie, Ian kept his nerve and took the win, 3rd was Mike followed by John.

Les is gatting the hang of his Genesis and had a very good run on red lane, but you have to feel a little sorry for Anthony, the only one NOT running a Genesis, he ran a rebodied NSR but still had rubber tyres so considering all that he did very well.

Scalextric's last proper modern WRC rally car was the Rallye Monte Carlo 2015 winning Volkswagen Polo R WRC of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia that appeared in 2016.
Since then, slot rally fans had to wait and wait and wait....
But this week the waiting came to an end with the new Rally Italia Sardegna 2020 winning SCX Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC of Dani Sordo and Carlos del Barrio.

In 2020, the Spaniards only took part in three WRC events.
After a breakdown with an overheated engine in Mexico, they were unbeatable on the Italian island, just like last year.
At Monza, the last WRC event of the season of only seven counting WRC rallies, they scored a fine third place.

It's impressive how SCX has handled the many aerodynamic parts on the body in such a solid way.
The Hyundai is only driven on the rear wheels by a FR42 motor, which is positioned as an inliner.
For the first test run it makes sense to glue the motor with hot glue first.
Here are a few pictures of the new SCX Hyundai World Rally Car:

Hello all,
Does Ultimate Racer software have a feature to hold the power off until the race starts? Race Co-ordinator has a flag for "Hot Start" whereby the power is on and drivers can jump the start (and be penalised).  If "Hot Start" is not selected the power is off until the race/heat starts thereby eliminating jump start opportunities.

Hello all, apologies for the click-bait title, I don't usually stoop that low.

I have often wondered why Scalextric chose to put a co-driver in their XJ220. Have Googled several times to see if one ever competed in a rally (traditional discipline requiring co-driver) but have never found anything. Yes, XJ220 occasionaly participate in modern day vanity events but the Scalextric crew are proper race-crew. I believe that every Scalextric XJ220 has the same interior.

Does anyone have any info as to why Scalextric did this?

Hello all,
A friend in North America is looking for some of the Ninco plastic wire-wheels that are fitted to their "Classic" range. He is restoring a collection of these for club use and wants them on original wheels. As you will know, the Ninco axles are slightly larger diameter than Scalextric standard.

Please let me know if you have any (even single ones) for sale and advise cost in a PM.

North America or UK locations would probably be best.

Worthing Digital will be competing in this year's event in the LMP2 class, with the capable trigger fingers of Alex Stone, Mike Dadson, Jean Lefebvre and Ed Pink along with my 'not quite so capable' trigger finger.

The Audi R10 the club entered when the the race was last run has been breathed on by master builder Mike, has been lit by Andy and Jean, and is looking good!

We are hoping to see it carry on where it left off last time, as it finished strongly after a difficult baptism earlier in the race. Alex and Ed ran it in a warm up event last week and it performed well.

I will keep this thread updated leading up to the event, and when there...
