Community Service Announcement:
On Saturday coming (3rd February) there is a Toy Fair in Musselburgh at which Roger Barker will have a stall. If you are not already familiar with that name you can find him on Facebook as "Roger Barker Slots".
The venue is just east of Edinburgh and a rare opportunity to find a slot-car dealer north of Hadrian's Wall.
There may be other slot-car stalls present but I am not aware of any.
For transparency - I have no connection to "Northern Toy Fairs" nor Roger Barker other than as a paying customer.

It's now nearly 3 months since I retired. I'm enjoying it.
No 4am alarms, or 11.15pm finishes. Plenty of time to myself to do things I enjoy.
However I'm getting sick to death of the same people asking me, every single time I meet them; "Are you enjoying your retirement?" ......Or, in the case of my mother-in-law; "Are you still enjoying your retirement?"
I'd enjoy it a lot better if they would stop going on about it.
I've answered the question more than once, and every time the answer is the same. My alternative answer, which isn't verbal, would doubtless get me into trouble with the Boys In Blue - and then I wouldn't be enjoying my retirement anymore.
Why can't they find something else to talk about?
Dodgy track
Hi, I love Scalextric but always, I have some niggerling problems. Could you please help me? I have used a track plan and power is reducing on a number of pieces around the track, some of them make the car stop and it only gets going again halfway round the rest of the track. What should I do?
Thanks a lot.
I've been experimenting with an X-Box controller as a (2.4GHz Radio controlled) slot car controller.
I believe ESRM allows use of these controllers via Bluetooth + PC, but I'm using an Arduino with nRF24l01+ radio module in the XBox controller so it talks directly to the car. I just tweaked the firmware I use on my other controllers and loaded it on. Works great.
Hi Guys,
a mate has brought a load of Airfix track and it is in mint condition.
He has offered me some to make a 4 lane oval for my midget racing.
What is your opinion's on this type of track? has it got better grip that Scalextric Sport(that can't be hard to beat)
If anyone has their track made with this brand I'd love to see some car action.
Cheers
Tony
I read, recently, on motorsport.com read the article here that Rally1 could be replaced by Rally2.
You all may have different points-of-view, but I think it would be a good thing. I think that the top-tier of WRC has become too "niche". Quite a few years ago, before the hybrid-era started, I was finding WRC2 far more interesting/entertaining - in a similar way to my preference for Group A over Group B.
Thoughts, gents?
I was a little concerned to read that the Spanish GP is moving from Barcelona to Madrid from 2026.
It's not that I'm a huge fan of Catalunya, and I know nothing about the proposed Madrid track, but my concern is that street circuits are being pushed so hard, and as the BBC article states, one of the advantages of the move is that "90% of fans would be able to travel to the race via public transport on metro and train lines".
It is part of Formula 1's aim to "to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2030".
Now, my concerns are two fold. Firstly, in spite of being a long time supporter of environmental and green issues, I smell a rat. It has the whiff of greenwashing about it, because 90% of the fans may be able to get there via public transport if they live in Madrid, but that doesn't mean to say that they will, and it doesn't really account for all the people that will be driving, or flying in from other parts of Spain, or the rest of the world. "Would be able to" is not the same thing as people actually doing it.
My second concern is that the classic circuits like Spa Francorchamps, and Silverstone for instance, will be wiped out in an attempt to give F1 some fake greenwashing headlines, because neither of those circuits can be accessed by public transport. Losing real and genuinely challenging race tracks would be a shame, to me at least.
