The fifth race of the 2021 World Championship Proxy takes place tonight in North Carolina. Rob’s ‘Bent Tree Raceway’ hosts the Group C cars – and you might get to see it all happen live on Facebook. Slot Cars
The summer months can be quite slow for slot car news. What we did hear this week was Teamslot are catching up for lost time and have two Escorts on their way… soon. Looking at all their 2021 new releases still to come, there won’t be any summer holidays at Teamslot this year. Find out more here.
There was also news from RevoSlot via their US distributor in the Pacific North West. The ScaleRacing Center have produced a short video of future plans, plus some pictures of cars expected before the end of the year. No surprise – they are all fabulous 1990s GT models. Slot Car Track Build
Anthony is recreating Kyalami in Belgium – and with vintage Revell track. He made an excellent start last week – and we’re all looking forward to enjoying the progress on this track build. You can follow it here.
Track Plan
Spa was the venue for the 24 Hour GT race this weekend and will host the next round of the F1 world championship after their summer break. Publications
Model Cars is one of the oldest and longest standing modelling magazines, pre-dating the advent of slot cars by over a decade. The magazine was initially about modelling, but when it was relaunched in 1964, its articles became more focused on slot cars, racing, tracks and clubs. The magazine features product reviews, model news, slot tracks, blueprints, and technical know how. You can find 25 issues in the SlotRacer Library here.
Motorsport News
What is there to say about the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix? If you haven’t seen it, you really need to. And if you watched it live, you’ll probably want to watch it again… The Channel 4 highlights are available now on More4 here.
The British Touring Car Championship gave us a typically frantic weekend of tin-top action from Oulton Park. Qualifying on Saturday and three races on Sunday were packed full of spills and thrills. ITV will have highlights next weekend, but a full recap of Sunday’s racing can be found on the ITV Hub here.
The 24 Hours of Spa was a near-perfect long-distance endurance race. A combination of one of the world’s iconic circuits, typical Ardennes weather and the very best GT racing drivers on the planet gave viewers 24 hours of drama, suspense and then a sensational finale. A wonderful weekend of motorsport also left a bitter taste. The death of a track marshal at Brands Hatch on Saturday reminded everyone in the motorsport community how much we rely on this orange army of volunteers. W-Series driver Alice Powell has set up a Crowdfunding page to raise money for the families affected by the accident at Brands. Find out how you can contribute via the Autosport article here.
