Pro Scale Racing Scenery

Pro Scale Racing Scenery

Wondering if anyone has anything to do with the Pro Scale Racing Scenery kits at all and what if any feedback, good, bad, recommendations, glue used, preparation for construction, painting etc.

I am considering purchasing several if not all of them in multiple quantities.

Items such as the: PSR0405 - Lookout Building

Not come across them before, so no direct experience, but not tremendously impressed after looking at their website. LINK

Similar concept to Magnetic Racing products. LINK Several of the same items but not so well executed with visible fixing tabs everywhere. Prices are higher for virtually identical items as well. I am surprised that Scalextric haven't sued several people for blatant copying of their control tower and crosswalk! At least 4 people are selling exact replicas.

I gather from their phone number and Euro pricing that they are based in Spain but I am always suspicious of firms that don't display their business address on their websites.

However, there is some interesting original stuff on there and pricing is not too outrageous so give them a try if something interests you and let us know how you get on.

I am assuming these are plastic rather than cardboard, if they are card based then they are not worth the sort of money being asked, personal opinion.
hmm... they do seem popular as they sell out reasonably fast and constantly. Could be they don't order lots in.
I might just jump in and buy one of them and go from there before spending thousands on them. Do you or any other person know of retailers that sell scenery items, specifically Australia, as last resort I guess I will just have to I import myself if you or any other person can recommend or suggest any other retailer.
Thanks for your reply.

They don'tlook  like plastic or card to me, they look laser cut mdf, or something similar.

The visible fixing tabs might be a problem, and may need filling and sanding after assembly. Glue will likely be simple PVA (white wood glue), and painting can probably be done with basic interior wall paints, or acrylics.

I'd agree with CMOTD though, the Magnetic Racing buildings look as though they're better quality, as they don't seem to have any visible fixing tabs.

As I mentioned I will jump in and add one to my order and see what it is like and go from there. At least MDF is better than card.

Will also see if the retailer has the Magnetic Racing buildings in stock and grab one of them also.

And a big dirrrrr to me, if I looked at the picture better it does say "High quality wood kit" what a twit I am... so more than likely it will be MDF as mentioned. Shall find out and take photos etc when it arrives and post here.

As you are in Australia Johnno I think you will have difficulty getting this sort of stuff without buying from abroad with the attendant postage costs.

If you don't mind card construction, which can be very good these days, then MHS in the USA LINK have a good selection of American themed buildings which might be worth a look.

For a vintage track then GP Miniatures LINK have a good range.

Also check out Slot Track Scenics LINK for trackside accessories.

Pendle Slot Racing in the UK LINK can supply most of these things, they have superb customer service and ship worldwide at reasonable cost.

ok well I had ordered several of the ProScale Racing buildings which are laser cut from 2.5mm MDF.

The builds will require gluing, filling (some sort to suit MDF), undercoating and painting. The pictures below are from the ProScale Racing Dunlop Bridge 2 Lane, code PSR0904-1, further info in the attached photo of the wrapping.

I initially had no idea how I was going to assemble this 33 piece jigsaw puzzle without it falling to bits, so as you can see I came up with using rubber bands to hold it together.

I built the bridge in two halves and then merged those two together to form the one piece. I have to say it doesn't look half bad, loads more work to do though as mentioned above.

Thought I would check out the original Dunlop bridge and the PSR (ProScale Racing) MDF bridge with MDF lettering I grabbed from Spotlight store today.

What a huge difference and personally the PSR MDF bridge looks much, much more realistic, professional and, well, better even in plain MDF. Remember I still have yet to glue, prime and paint*.

Regarding gluing and painting. I had thought, more than likely will be wrong, so please advise otherwise as my experience with scenery building is nil. I will not be offended.

As I have the bridge built temporarily, should I:
- squeeze PVA glue into the lug holes carefully without disassembling and then prime and paint as one unit,
- disassemble, prime and paint each part separately then assemble and glue, will the glue hold though with the paint?
- feedback, suggestions, recommendations, primer type?, paint type?, clear coat and type?

help and direction badly required, complete newb. I have rotated the image and saved for some reason it inserts like this, sorry. Trying to work out why it isn't inserting as displayed on my screen.

TIA
Johnno

Do you take the photos with a phone or tablet by any chance? This is the usual cause of such errors even though they appear the right way up on your phone.

There are lots of articles on the internet which explain the technical reasons for this, and offer various solutions.

But if you want a quick, simple fix, the answer is simply to hold your phone as shown below, with the round home button on the right when you take photos.

This is the only way that an iPhone will take photos without rotation problems.

I use my phone and then actually go in and check first, if the image needs to be rotated etc, I do that, save it, check again using two different packages.

My gut feeling says it is Windows, I performed a reset nine days back, I think I will perform full nuke and reload. You know how those little things that are different, that is what I have currently, just holding off as I have some major computer work coming up next few days so having my system available will be handy.

I use the phone the same way the image is, eg that image is portrait so I hold the phone in portrait, if image is landscape I hold phone landscape.

What I did notice is when I viewed the image (on the forum) by left clicking, it loaded in separate tab and rendered correctly in portrait. I may have to grab the hammer and swear profusely at it then it will work lol.

I don't have a crApple, refuse to use any of those devices, they are cr_ap devices personally and the fact that Apple doesn't pay their fair share of tax in Australia and many other countries.

Back to the MDF bridge, looking at it more closely I will have to glue it, putty the joins and sand, prime, sand, prime, paint, sand, paint, clear coat to do it properly, really no other way, so the painting will take many days, no hurry as weather is too cold anyway to paint so got time to glue and putty.

Just need to sort out paint type, which will give the best finish, acrylic etc. I just thinking about finding an original photo of the bridge and paint it that style, the yellow looks awful and, well nasty
