Autumn Proxy 2024 Questionnaire
#1

Wavegreen Good morning everyone

Background
I have learned since undertaking running proxies, that you can think you have a great idea for a proxy, but you need sufficient number of people sharing the same desire in order to make it a practical proposition. So in the last couple of years I have canvassed opinion from previous entrants on proposed Themes and then taken a vote on the outcome.

With the completion of the "Triple Crown" series of Proxies next Spring, I decided to follow a different path, thereafter I will only plan for "one off's"  proxy events in the future, but will still canvas support in advance as to the subject matter or theme of the proxy.

Although next September seems a long way to go, I start planning early in order to give slot car builders plenty of notice, so the first question of which one to go for needs answering by the end of this year, so I can announce the Theme latest in January.

I decided next year I would like to organise a purely Classic or historical based Proxy, which I know is risky as some of the current entrants will not be interested in this aspect of racing and conversely some new participants might be encouraged to try it out (as I once did some 3 years ago). Sun

So the OPTIONS I am asking your opinion on are:

OPTION 1 - Goodwood Revival Proxy
OPTION 2 - Historic Road Races Proxy

ONLY one will be chosen to run next year based on the feedback I receive. Personally I like both ideas equally so I remain impartial unless a deciding vote is necessary.

Car Lists.
As far as I know there is no definitive list of eligible cars for the Goodwood Revival OPTION 1, so it is basically any car which would have raced anywhere in the world that meets the description of the Events listed.

For Historic Road Races OPTION 2 the website https://www.racingsportscars.com lists all the cars which entered and ran in the Road Races.
For Millie Miglia, Carrera Pan Americana and Targo Florio select "Event" under the Races tab and write name in.
For Tour De France select "Title Contains" and write name in.

They will both use the same Technical Rules Guidelines I have outlined  on the attached table.

Proxy Format
The main difference in the way these two themes will be run is that:
The OPTION 1 it would be planned to run on straight forward fixed Slot Car race tracks both at clubs and home based. This proxy would be run Championship style with accumulated Points for each of 10 Rounds.

The OPTION 2 would as the name suggests warrant running on both straight forward fixed tracks and also some single track types designed for Rally Slot cars (but not severe) probably 50/50 and would be run  Rally style accumulated times over 10 Rounds (possible 2 stages per Round)

Car construction Classes
this time I am specifying only Class A Standard and Class B open types of construction as indicated below.
I have the idea that we can award both Class A and Class B winners for each Programme Event (depending on sufficient number of Class entries in each Event), which differs from the format we used previously.
A Team award would remain for those with 2 car entries. It is worth mentioning that a Team can be a collaborative arrangement between 2 entrants from the same club or nearby location. That would be treated as one "Team Entry" as long as both cars can be sent back to the same destination (ie same postal costs)
And a "Spirit of the proxy" award for the self decorated cars.

I am open to interest from both existing and NEW entrants, but please only complete the questionnaire if you are motivated sufficiently to be committed to entering a car or two into the proxy. I will confirm through pm or email if your Questionnaire completion has been received, if I don't it probably means that somethings gone sadly wrong with my IT skills.

The Themes are outlined below, but both the details within the events or technical rules are only proposals until one or other of the OPTIONS are chosen.
I would be looking at around 20 -25 respondents in order to declare a preferred choice to run next year.

For Goodwood Events there is now two choices in the Programme for Event 3a St Mary's Trophy (4 seater Hard top Saloon Cars 1960-1966) or 3b (Whitsun Trophy Sports Prototypes 1960-1965). One will be chosen  along with fixed Events 1 & 2 depending on the respondents preference on the questionnaire.

The questionnaire is attached below

I look forward to seeing the feedback

To help with selection I have added this section to the thread above

For Historic Road Races OPTION 2 the website https://www.racingsportscars.com lists all the cars which entered and ran in the Road Races (some cars entered but did not turn up, but I will also accept these in our proxy)
For Millie Miglia, Carrera Pan Americana and Targo Florio select "Event" under the Races tab and write name in.
For Tour De France select "Title Contains" and write name in

We now have a list of Targa Florio cars  Yes

... I'll have to create one for the Mille Miglia as that'll be useful also

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers

This resembles the list of the International Proxy Series.  If we go this route, will Ferrari P3, Lola T70 and Ferrari GT40 be eligible to compete against the 250 GTO or Porsche 550?   Just a thought.

Well spotted, until we get a decision of which OPTION type proxy we are dealing with, it is all a little speculative. But if a look at the Events set out in the Road Race programme, I would say unlikely because the dates would enable me to separate them.

I have not checked, but the Porsche would be in the Millie Miglia, the Ferrari 250 GTO probably in the  Tour De France, the others on the Targo Florio

I've just done a Mille Miglia 1940-1955 list

250 GTO 64 was in the Targa Florio
Porsche 550 Spyder was in the Mille Miglia
Lola T70 was Targa Florio
GT40 was Targa Florio

But the Ferrari 250 GTO was also in the Tour De France 1963-1964, so that’s where it would probably go
And I make the rules  Talking

There will need to be some intentional segregation of car types to make it a good balanced competition.

Wavegreen Good Morning,

The feedback I received so far is not showing any particular preference for either of the proxy options,  but is is early days and it  is not sufficient number of replies to make a conclusive decision as yet. I am pleased that there is more or less equal liking for the two Car construction classes.
There is interest in most of the Events in the two programmes, apart from the Richmond Cup GP/Indy  cars (1948 - 1960) & the Carrera Pan American in the Historic Road Race.

So I have amended the programmes which now comprise of 3 Events in each proxy option..
Sadly we are loosing the Richmond Cup in OPTION1 (which was a personal favourite of mine)
Additionally I am combining the Pan Americana Event in with the Millie Miglia for OPTION 2 (this kind of makes sense as many of the cars run in both Road Races, but the Pan Americana had some interesting Saloons which only ran in this one)

Overall I think this simplifies the choices and hopefully we get more participants in the remaining Events for each Option.

I amended the Questionnaire accordingly, if anyone wants to change their initial choices then they can submit a form again, I can easily delete the original one.

An additional thought I had was that entrants or teams would be able to enter 3 cars (one for each Event) if they should wish to, but for the Best Team Award only the best two results from the 3 Events would be taken into consideration. And a Team can be a more than one Entrant or club mate etc.

Modifications to proxy Plans.
I have changed the the rear tyre widths of the cars in both choices.
And whilst reviewing the actual time periods in which the Tour De France and the Targo Florio actually ran, I decided that it would be a good idea to extend the proxy timeframe accordingly. So Tour De France now allows cars which ran up until 1974, and Targo Florio cars which ran until 1971.
Some slot cars which entered TDF  will be too wide to meet the body width restriction, so they will be entered in the Targo Florio.

As such there is still no obvious preference for which proxy is preferred. Exactly equal choices of each, and some respondents don't really mind either way.

If this is still the case by the time the current proxy finishes, I might need to resort to the "coin method"  Bigsmile
