Targa Florio Road Race proxy - Car Presentations
9th-Aug-25, 09:09 AM
Makem
So as usual first cars to arrive from Gerry.
Classic Group
Allard 2J (Class A)
This is a George Turner Model which incidentally participated in the "Lights on Le Mans" Proxy in 2021
Resin body & Chassis
Motor Scalex 18k rpm
Rear tyres PCS
First impression- Initial run up the hillclimb was good and steady.
Comments - nice looking car, should do well on the slower stages, might stuggle on the faster ones.
Gran Turismo Group
Bizzarinni 5300GT (Class C)
Also a George Turner model.
Resin body and chassis
Motor Scalex 18k rpm
Rear tyres NSR
First impression - initial run up the hillclimb was good and steady.
Comments - glazing seems to be a little skew-wiff but does not feel loose, one of the rear tyres has quite a groove worn into the contact area and cambers away, which might reduce grip for some tracks. The interior is not currently touching the rear tyre, so this looks to have been an earlier incident.
Prototypes & GT Group
Chaparral 2F (Class E)
MRRC model with extended chassis plates to support added ballast.
Plastic moulded body and chassis
Motor MRRC Slimline 18k rpm
Rear tyres MRRC
First impressions - initially the car found it very difficult to negotiate the hill climb both up & down. After discussion with the entrant I have changed the guide (which was exceeedingly shallow) for a sprung Slot it one. The car now runs up the hill climb quite well but still struggles down hill, I think the issue here being the lack of weight behind the guide in spite of the added weights on the sides of the chassis.
Comments - will run better on some tracks than others perhaps.

Equipe Trelawney
This is the 2nd proxy for this team, after the current Global GT Challenge.
Classic Group
Lancia D24 (Class B)
Oscar resin body with Amato chassis

Comments - runs as well as it looks.
Gran Turismo Group
Ferrari 250P (Class C)
Supershells body with fixed motor pod 3d print chassis
Motor Scalextric 18k S-Can

Fly body with Amato chassis
Motor Slot it S-Bell 23k (orange band)
Rear chassis suspension fitted
Rear tyres Slot it F22

I reckon Colin Sparks' Allard will distinguish itself in the Spirit Award - looks a class apart from photos I have seen.
Yes I've been watching his progress.
When I said two top contenders, the list of top contenders could be 10 cars...or more

RoadRunners
My own entries, eventually decided on building replicas of actual TF livery cars if possible.
Classic Group
Mercedes Benz 300SL (Class B)
Stirling Moss run both the Millie Miglia & Targa Florio in the 300SL in 1955. His co driver for the Targa Florio was Peter Collins.
Carrera body
Chassis National Racers 3d
Motor Slot it Flat 6S
Rear tyres PCS
Initial impression - runs quite fast but a little light on the front, drive with care on decent on Hillclimb
Gran Turismo Group
Alfa Romeo GTA (Class D)
Revoslot kit - authentic Targa Florio Livery
All standard parts.
Managed to get the livery from LeMans Decals, so decided to build this instead of running the Kadett.
Initial Impression is that it is very suited to my Rally tracks and very stable, probably a bit underpowered on the Tarmac Stages but we will see.
Prototypes & GT
Ferrari 412P (Class F)
Policar body kit decorated to authentic Targa Florio Livery
Predator Motor 22.5k rpm
BRM tyres
Basically the same chassis and running gear which was on the Ferrari 330 Spyder in the Goodwood Revival proxy.
Initial impression is that it is working better on the hill climb than I would have imagined, very fast, only issue may be to remember to slow down for the Hump Back bridge.
I am still working on the Aston Martin DBR1, having a few issues with it at the moment.

Groundhogs
A welcome return to Mike who joins us from the Woodland Fort club in Plymouth.
Classic Group
Allard J2 (Class A)
George Turner Model kit - authentic Targa Florio livery decorated by Colin Spark
Motor S-Can (need to clarify}
Rear tyres PCS
Initial Impression - obviously a truly great looking car, handling was quite good on the hillclimb, a little tippy on the inside hairpin corners at speed. It is fitted with a sprung guide with quite a strong spring which can lift the front wheels ocassionally, perhaps a softer spring would have worked better.
Gran Turismo
MGB (Class C)
Body 3d printed, chassis JS Design
Motor PCS AC4
Rear tyres PCS
Initial impressions - quite light, prone to deslotting on my Hillclimb track, may do better elsewhere. I will dirve this one slowly to keep on.
