Pitlane Review
General Comments
My initial expectation was that since this was another Policar track, then probably we would see a similar pattern of positioning of the cars in each event. However that assumption was soon to be dispelled as the track layout is quite different from the Viking layout in that it is much more technical with only one full length speed straight. It has quite severe bends and flyover inclinations and at least one decline with a negative camber on the exit of a bend which all makes this quite a challenging track.
Being a "Sprint race" on all 4 lanes, there were some collisions adding to the drama although we did use "track calls" as much as we could to minimise the any disadvantage caused to the victims of such incidents due to the low level of marshalling.
There was some particularly unexpected results (comparing to the seeding positions) but we could not see any obvious mechanical issues with the cars that were run throughout the Round. Perhaps one exception might be the Ferrari 250GTO of BAracer which still seems to have a underlying electrical contact issue. It maybe worth taking a look inside of this car to see if there is a loose wire ?
I covered the Round with video footage which I hope to get sorted in the next couple of days.
I have compiled a list of "Fastest Laps" for Rounds 2 below
So that makes me think that some cars suffered basic stability problems (de-slots) on this track more than we would have expected.
Overall Championship Results
Kinrara (Event 1)
Joint 1st Place - ModSports Corvette & Brumos Porsche 904 (35pts)
3rd Place - RoadRunners Ferrari 250 GTO (22pts)
Generally with this event the top 3 cars seem to be able to clearly have the pace over the rest of the field, but they are all fairly well matched.
The Ferrari 250GTO of BAracer seems to have its own difficulties, we did try to improve the traction of the tyres by cleaning them with Lighter fluid at the start of this Round but unfortunately it gave no improvement and the car was always on the limit for the drivers, difficulties in control with flickering lights made us think there is something needing attention inside.
Gerry Marshall Trophy
1st Place - LeManx Jaguar XJ12C (40pts)
2nd Place - Bangers Racing Rover SD1 (26pts)
3rd Place Brumos RSR Camaro (20pts)
Very surprised that Brumos RSR Camaro found this track so challenging, but as it had the 2nd fastest lap of the Event it just seemed more prone to de-slotting. Bangers Racing run well although it did look still a little loose at the back. Batmanx Camaro seemed very fast in places but struggled on the many bends. A great result for Paul C Alfa Romeo GTV, this car loved the bends.
Whitsun Trophy
1st Place - RoadRunners Ferrari 330 Spyder (40pts)
Joint 2nd Place - ModSports Ford MKIV & LeManx Ford GT0 (23pts)
Although not the fastest the Roadrunners Ferrari 330 Spyder ran well on this track again, although sometimes it had me biting my nails as it seemed on the edge of falling off. ModSports Ford MKIV ran well also, and Ruscillo Racing Ford GT40 was the surprise of the day ending up 3rd on the Round. LeManx Ford GT40 on the otherhand should have done better but suffered a similar fate as Brumos RSR Camaro, just did not seem to want to stay on in spite of it having the 2nd fastest lap of the Event.
The next Round 3 will be held at the Wirral Slot Car Club (routed wood track) on Friday this week.
