GT Sports Cars Slotting
#81

The schedule has not yet been planned but in general I have heard positive indications from most of the current hosts, so they will remain the same tracks which we ran in the Touring Cars Slotting proxy. There is a new opportunity which I am exploring with an interested club which is close by to an existing host, so maybe some collusion may enable us to still retain 10 Rounds with 2x2 being able to be run in quick succession (as their would not require much movement of the cars).

But in general I would say this, that we still have issues with entrants fitting unsuitable guides with "deep, thick, long blades"  often 2 or all 3 characteristics. EXCEPTIONALLY DEEP, THICK OR LONG BLADES DO NOT WORK!! and offer absolutely no advantage in a proxy. Having looked both at home and abroad for inspiration it is still a common issue regardless of whether you use plastic or just wood tracks. Oversize guides are problematic on many tracks and only suitable if you know that they work on your local club track.

Slotingplus SP101002 is perfect, 7mm deep, 23mm long and narrower than their wood guide...and has an angled front edge.

Grahams rules have max 7mm deep and 20mm long.
I asked as I believe 7mm will be too deep for SCX/Scalextric Classic track.
Should be fine if its Scalex Sport, I am unsure but believe Carrera, Ninco and Policar should also be fine with 7mm.
As an aside, my proxy builds that are in testing, are currently fitted with the Slotting Plus guides Kevan mentions.
These are trimmable to 21mm retaining the RKS.
I cant see 21mm being an issue, but without all the plastic tracks to test, I can't be sure.

With braid that 7mm depth will be more like 6.7mm

I would specify 6mm deep guides if we use SCX or classic Scalex. The guide in theory should be ok for Scalex Sport as it is deeper than the classic Scalex. But again I emphasise that we still get issues with too thick or too long and sometimes too pointed or sharp at the front which can catch in the track joints.

I was asked by an entrant today how I am now measuring the track clearance for scrutineering.

I have adopted a standardised metal disc or "washer" to place under the car between the front and rear wheels on a set up plate.

The front and rear wheel tyres must be touching the set up plate between the front and rear wheels with the standardised disc placed underneath.

Graham,
Does this mean that on 4 lane tracks the rules will only allow two cars in any one run?

No, I recognise that for NERCS & Woodland Fort, time constraints make it impracticable to run this way. So they will remain as 4 lane Sprint Race format. One thing I will specify in general is that there must be sufficiently high perimeter barriers fitted to the host tracks used for the proxies to prevent cars falling onto the floor. And a request that host tracks are run at 12volts, but I know that is not always possible either.

Thanks Graham

We are putting up higher barriers a week on Sunday (21st), with some foam or rubber facing if we can fit it in, so hopefully no more trips to the floor.

Also as promised, there will be a full driver briefing before the event starts.
