Hello lets try again. New here a little about myself. Petrol head two and four wheels very competitive. Raced at Donington park, cadweel park, Croft, Rufforth, Oulton park, Aintree and some others also Rallied, Autocross and Grasstrack good wife, lucky eh. Had scalextric for ages not used into saloons rather than single seaters. Hopefully enough info to prove I’m not a bot.
Now down to memery testing, does anyone remember the scalextric world championships in trinadad??? Some towns and cities in uk held qualifiers (money for entry went to charity) for entry into WC held in tower hotel london were the winner would win a black 1275 GT mini and entrance into WC. Never heard anything after London qualifier. Any info anybody.

Welcome aboard startline.
Sounds like you've had a busy old time racing.
I don't know anything about the Scalextric World Championships.

I have heard about the championship before. Particularly the bits about the UK rounds, final in London and 1:1 1275GT Mini as a prize.
It was all before I was in the hobby though, so only what has been told to me.

I have had a delve through my archives and come up with the following:
These refer to a qualifying round held in Southend which was won by Dale Tremble, the founder of the
NSCC.
Unfortunately I have no knowledge or info about the subsequent finals.
There was, however, a further event in 1982 held at Hornby's Margate premises when a team from Barbados came over to race against an English team largely made up of Molesey Club members and included Roger Gillham, Martin O’Reilly, Brian George, Chris Gregory and others. BA sponsored their flight over and there was supposed to be a return match but I am unsure whether that actually took place.

Scalextric racing used to be huge here in Trinidad in the seventies and eighties. A national championship would be held annually , the winner of which would go to England to race in I guess some form of international championship there. I do remember a very big international Scalextric race event taking place here many years ago and I have a souvenir cap from it which reads 'Scalextric World Championship'.
